  1. With respect, doesn't this also apply to those who keep voting in serving/retired military Generals??
  2. As a retired UK police forensic scientist, IMO the team's behavior was disgraceful. The first most important action is the preservation of the scene with only authorized investigating and support officers entering the cordoned off area (to prevent contamination). But this is Thailand and the Koh Tao murder scene comes to mind with, IMO, the wrongful prosecution of the two Burmese lads.
  3. For reference, here in Cambodia, the Government is offering all resident foreigners a free single entry pass to visit the Angkor Wat Archaeological Park to help boost local associated tourism. The foreigners, in employment or retired, must have resided in the Royal Kingdom for 2 complete years. The free pass is worth 37$ (39 GBP, 1400 Baht).
  4. For reference (Google):- Equipping, possession, carrying, use, purchase, sale, trading, loan, transfer, rental, production, fabrication, repair, transportation, transit, import, export and stockpiling of weapons, explosives and ammunition of all its aspects by the civilian population are prohibited in the Kingdom of Cambodia. I have lived here approaching 3 years and have never read about gun atrocities like those in Thailand.
  5. Yes indeed, just what I was going to quote. Often recruits are family members so no such background security/risk checks made - "keep the money within the family"!
  6. If (or when) completed a new focal point for the sex tourists??????
  7. With pitchforks??? Surely one police officer with a Taser would have been sufficient!!
  8. Some really sad and horrific press photos - "Safe and Trusted Thailand" Prayut?????? Sincere condolences to the families. RIP the victims, especially the youngsters who will hopefully find peace in Paradise
  9. Interesting article as I experienced a similar situation, but many years ago. I also received a UK Inland Revenue (HM Treasury) cheque for a tax overpayment (250 GBP). At that time, I had a Bangkok Bank account in Phayao where (in those days) my UK pension cheques (Civil Service and Local Government) were cashed and credited to my account. Normally cheques took up to 3 weeks to be cleared but as I was a regular customer my "Government" cheques were "cashed" on the spot at that day's exchange rate without the wait. So, the HM Treasury cheque was treated the same as the others. Personal cheques were subject to the clearing process. Maybe worth asking your Bangkok Bank Customer Service Manager if the same arrangement can be offered to you. Fortunately my CSM was Malaysian and not Thai. I cannot remember if there were any bank charges, but if there were then minimal.
  10. Is that a garbage truck he is riding in, by any chance???
  11. Hua Hin to get high speed train by 2032 10 years before start of operation? It took 7 years to complete what was regarded in its day as the UK's first "high speed railway" between Liverpool and Manchester (1823 - 1830)!!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opening_of_the_Liverpool_and_Manchester_Railway#:~:text=Within ten years%2C 1%2C775 miles,10%2C000 km) were in place.
  12. During my 20 years of living in retirement in Thailand, and a known hater of Bangkok, I lived among other ex-pat country bumpkins up North in Lanna - that should give you clue!
  13. For reference from today's International Yahoo News (4 October 2022): (Bloomberg) -- Thailand is battling the worst flooding in years with a large swathe of its crop land inundated by seasonal storms and swollen rivers, threatening to fuel food prices and hinder a nascent tourism recovery ........ With more storms forecast over the next few weeks, Thai officials are taking steps to minimize further damage to crops and houses............ The biggest damage is to rice crop and it comes amid forecasts for smaller harvests from major producers such as India and Pakistan,................Any potential impact on tourism, which we hope would recover in the next quarter or two, will be a new lesson for Thailand this time, especially as it is the hope for next year’s economic recovery.” https://uk.yahoo.com/finance/news/worst-thai-flood-years-damage-101429022.html
  14. Now this is a lot of water heading south to the Central Region and Bangkok!
  15. A cock and "ball" story that rings true???????
  16. like the High Speed Bullet trains with no track to run on???????? July 2022: BANGKOK — Thailand’s recent pledge to finish a long-delayed high-speed rail line linking it to China through Laos within six years (2028) is reigniting doubts about the country’s commitment and whether the $12 billion megaproject will pay off. https://www.voanews.com/a/thailand-sets-2028-target-to-finish-high-speed-rail-link-with-china/6662154.html
  17. Unfortunately If this is a scam - for reference from today's Cambodian media (1 October 2022): "Scam syndicates working on scamming millions of dollars from unsuspecting clientele from Asia, predominantly China, Taipei, Korea, Hong Kong and ASEAN nations have changed their modus operandi after crackdowns by Chinese and related police authorities ............ now scam operators have increased their recruitment ................................... individuals who were proficient in English..................... put them to labor to scam unsuspecting, gullible or greedy westerners ................................. through various activities." https://www.khmertimeskh.com/501160380/scam-syndicates-change-modus-operandi-now-target-westerners-focusing-less-on-asians/ I sincerely hope your furniture eventually arrives
