  1. I did mine for 5 years in april.

didnt book. walk in. But i watched the 1 hour video online and kept the QR code it gave me.

went there at 7.30 they started to take in people who has bookings. So i would say i waited around 2 hours for my turn. When you enter the door tell or show the QR code to the lady sitting on the right (giving queue numbers) that means you watched the video. So they will give you a different queue number (i think white color) to skip watching the video. they will take i think 550 or 505 baht. cannot remember. i waited my turn probably another 30-40min. Did 3 tests about color, reflects, eyes. Took my photo and waited another 20min. All done

so no need booking but if not you will wait probably 3-4 hours to do all. went there 7.30 done around 11:45

    video you need to watch:

My last question is: Can I cancel my own work permit without getting my current employer involved?

    I have the following documents:
    1. Termination Letter
    2. Visa (Extension of Stay) Cancellation Letter
    3. Certificate of Employment (I think this is for the new job)
    4. Work Permit Cancellation Form

I have heard of people who were able to do it, and people who needed their employers to do it for them. So, if possible, I would like to do it myself.

    yes you can

just take the termination letter and the work permit with you to the labor office.

it will take 15 min to do all.

first of all you need a termination letter from your employer.

then go to the immigration and tell them you are done with your work. they will ask you your termination letter.

bare in mind that the date on your termination letter is your last day in thailand.

because it also cancel your visa.. probably non-b.. immigration will tell you that you have 24 hours to leave thailand right after you tell them and show them the termination letter. im not sure you can ask them 7 days for 2000 baht or not.

    you have 2 options here..

    1) you talk with your new job and prepare all the documents for your visa. if they can do that you dont need to leave the country.. you can do everything in the same day.

    2) if the new job cannot provide you with the documents you need to leave the country when you cancel your work.

i strongly advice you that to prepare your tax documents for your next work permit.. thats the first thing they will ask you when you want to expend your visa when you get the new work

I came to Thailand about every other month for a couple years (working) before coming here for work full-time.

During that time, I met with our sales rep, looked at factories, met with customers, suppliers, contractors and lawyers. I finally leased an office and hired a driver and an office manager and started interviewing staff, all without a work permit. Every time I was asked by anyone why I was entering Thailand, or what I was doing in Thailand I answered truthfully, and I never had any problem.

During the over twenty years I worked here, I had countless foreign nationals visit the factory for any number of reasons, all working, generally for a week, but sometimes for several months at a time, none of them with work permits, always answering honestly, and no one ever having any issue.

For visitors, I think the no work permit issue is greatly exaggerated.

    Thanks

with all respect to you and your comment.. i was wondering if you would help differently if its me or my friend?

i just cannot understand why people keep doing this.. its a friend or not. the question is there... does it matter?!

The authorities have specifically clarified that attending trade shows, and making purchases while there can be done without needing a work permit. Actually meeting customers and selling to them is different, and I do not think that is legal without a work permit.

i do believe it is. think like going to a business dinner. some people come here for attend some business meeting plus the sea and the nature. its all about what you are selling.. or talking in the meeting. its not like..

    but i agree with you

It would be useful to know which particular rogue office you are forced to attend.

khon kaen.. chang wattana.. nakhon sawan.. sri racha... pattaya... nan... loei... mukdahan... im sorry cannot remember the rest 50

i wonder which clawn IO you are talking about accepts black ink

if you work in some business you would also know that black is not accepted on many documents when you sign them only in some situations tho.

so.. your opinion doesnt make its true just because you think so or you were lucky 1 or 2 times. and i dont think i attended a rogue IO jsut because they are doing their job

It is vital to clarify exactly what he is doing in Thailand.

If he is doing any work that involves a Thai company or Thai customers, he needs a work permit. If the authorities become aware of what he is doing, they will take action.

On the other hand, if he is doing only 100% remote work for a foreign employer, there is no problem in practice. The Thai authorities at the highest levels have decided to tolerate this. He can use any visa he can get without any worries. He may, though, discover that his company's legal department want something better than "what he is doing is fully tolerated" as security that the company would never be held liable for illegal working.

    Thank you for the info

You are incorrect. I have printed my TM7 forms using black toner for years, the signature was usually in blue but I have used black. The signature and photograph are original, though quite possibly a printed full colour photo would also be acceptable. Since my forms are all printed is is absolutely clear that they are exact copies.

There may be an office or official who has an issue this will be unusual

Well 18 years in thailand always been told no black and no copy by IO

Everyone getting their panties in a twist about someone else working...

It seems the guy is working on rotation overseas and when he visits Thailand he also does some remote work online.

This is exactly the same as the online worked carried out by ‘digital nomads’ - officials have no issue with this in Thailand.

The Thai Elite visa would be perfect for him.

    The official website: https://www.thailandelite.com

(note thats the only official website - anything else is an agent or intermediary).

    Thank you

Its not really clear: is he coming to Thailand to work?

It's not legal to work on an elite visa.  You can not get a work permit on an elite visa.

If all work was online, doesnt involve thai companies and no financial aspects were done in Thailand, then in reality; how would they know?

    www.thailandelite.com

    He can apply directly there.

    thank you

he is not working. its like he comes and do some work for his company based in his own country and go back to his country. to be honest i dont know what he is doing.

i will pass him the link

  12. Hi

I have a friend from Azerbaijan. He is doing some kind of work between there and thailand. His office pays all the expenses. The problem is everytime he enters thailand with a tourist visa. Before it was not a problem for him but he told me now its becoming a problem.

He wants to get elite visa or any other similar visa which will help him for entering thailand without any problem.

He wants to know how to get and the needed documents or any info about elit visa or any other visa.

Obviously Ed visa is not an option plus its not the right visa type.

    Thanks

  13. probably few years ago i was asking the same question in this forum for one of my friends.

he was on non-o retirement & extension. i asked the question if he can work and get a work permit. because my knowledge at that time was no.

then (i cannot remember 100%) the answers were yes he can with some he cannot. and i was so surprised. actually i do remember Ubon said every people can work with any kind of 'O' type immigrant visa.

so to make things clear again.. this means non-o retirement visa owners can work but cannot have work permit? if the answer is no they cannot even work then something changed? because im 100% sure the answer was yes few years ago when i posted.

    thanks

Here's the text from the Thai Elite application declaration, several of the points are of relevance to the OP.  The declaration goes on (later paragraph) to say that if you are later found out to have made a false declaration, TE membership will be cancelled with no refund.

well this post answers the OP's question. item 11 is clear. i think scam is financial crime?
