if we stick to registration data, we won’t go far wrong.

We can’t really accurately talk about Sales, we can talk about bookings at motor shows, etc., but that is nonsense as well.

January registration data is largely December sales I don't know of anyone that if they know they can get a B150,000 subsidy if the buy in December that would wait to buy in January with a reduced subsidy of B100,000

Sales figures are useless and inaccurate, they are totally open to manipulation by anyone who reports them.

The only figures we can realistically and accurately use are registrations, they are accurate though any interpretation towards the month of sale is tenuous at best.

I suggest you stop banging on about sales, and let’s work with the registration data.

It wasn't me that was Double dipping  using Registration data as sales data  and registration data is normally last month sales data

    We’ve been over this.

This month's registrations are a lot of last month's sales and some of this month’s sales.

They are the only statistics we can realistically use.

Rubbish if you sell something is 2023 you can't include that sell in 2024 figures

Rever has set "cautious, but realistic targets" for this year, after delivering 40,000 BYD cars in 2023

    https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Automobiles/EV-makers-offer-deep-discounts-as-Thai-auto-market-weakens

February 2023 registrations through to 31st January 2024 total 37,981 and as we know the DLT often has additions to the figures published by Autolifethailand

Looking at registration data from February 2023 until 31st December 2023 Byd  registration data comes to total of 29,587

Radklao said the EV board also resolved to have the Excise Department extend the period of the first phase, or EV 3.0 package, from December 31 this year to January 31 next year.

Initially, EV buyers under the EV3.0 package were required to register their EV vehicles by December 31. The extension allows them to buy new EVs by December 31 and register before January 31, 2024 to benefit from the Thailand International Motor Expo in December,

    https://www.nationthailand.com/business/automobile/40032479

so the final purchase date to qualify for EV 3.0 subsidy was 31st December 2023 and register  before January 31, 2024

Double dipping again using Registration data as sales data

January 2024 and 2023 Registrations data is December 2023 and December 2022 sales

Sales Figures for the 1st 3 months of 2023 i.e February ,March and April 2023 registrations total 15,532

Sales Figures for the 1st 3 months of 2024 i.e February ,March and April 2023 registrations total 12,633

EV sales for the 2024 are down 18.66% compared to same period in 2023

But come on, if you post a video that claims that a petrol car that's on fire after it smashed into a heavy lorry and a movie clip of an exploding car are Chinese EVs randomly catching fire / exploding saying :"this will make you think twice" then you deserve to be belittled. Watching an obviously and ridiculously fake video makes him think twice about Chinese EVs but he's not capable of thinking twice before posting it, or doing even the slightest bit of research.

Anyone with two brain cells can see they are fake and that the YouTube guy only posts fake anti China stuff now matter how outlandish it may be.

In the opening sequence of the video  it mentions a Chinese car with a broken axle in Malaysia

Chery Malaysia recalls 600 units of Omoda 5 over potential axle issue – rear beam to be replaced

Chery Malaysia has issued a precautionary safety recall on 600 units of the Omoda 5 over a potential axle issue. This comes following a viral social media post where a customer’s Omoda 5 apparently had its rear axle detach from the vehicle while driving.

If must be some type of "sales/bookings" numbers that AutoLife collects (dreams up) somehow vs actual govt DLT "registrations" (i.e, sale done with blue book issued).

I looked back thru some older Autolife articles and apparently they issue articles based on "sales" numbers (lord know how they come up with those numbers and if maybe it includes just bookings vs actual completed sales)...and articles based on DLT registrations where it's clear in the article its based on DLT "registrations."    Like below Feb 2024 article based on registration ...notice not even "one" Suzuki Ciaz is reflected for Jan or Feb 2024 although actual DLT registration data does reflect a couple dozen being registered for each of those months.

Any "sales" data from AutoLife I would take with a planet size grain of salt since they have never explained what constitutes a sale and where they get the sales data.  Now their articles based on registrations which come from the DLT and represent an actual completed sale with blue book issued seem to be at least in the ballpark.

    image.png.033064ea0ba188e09720d612e6f40220.png

DLT figures for Suzuki all models for

January 2024 are 799 registrations ( December Sales)

February 2024 registrations 764 (January Sales)

March 2024 registrations 567 (February Sales)

This article dated April 8th 2024

    states that  Suzuki

This resulted in the past March 2024 amid intense competition. Suzuki was able to sell 1,004 units, growing more than 50% compared to sales last month (Feb. 2024 sales totaled 505 units).

    https://www.thairath.co.th/news/auto/news/2776849

Brands might choose to report their sales figures to Autolifethailand rather than waiting for the DLT registrations reporting which normally happens 30 days later

Here’s how it works: like most other manufacturers, the basic cover you get is limited to three years or 60,000 miles, whichever happens first. However. Every time you have your car serviced according to schedule at a Toyota main dealer, your warranty cover is automatically extended for another year or 10,000 miles, up to a maximum of 10 years or 100,000 miles.

The only reliable figure we can work with is registrations.

Sales is whatever the dealer or manufacturer says they are and completely untrustworthy.

It's interesting to compare bookings at motor shows, but it's completely unreliable and open to overstatement.

The Government wants high reservations numbers at the Motor show as it shows a reflection of the current economy and  they believe that investors will invest more if the reservations numbers at the Motor show are High

However there are other sections of the  Government that want those  high reservations numbers only to be converted into registrations if the buyers can afford it and currently don't have a high outstanding household debt

I think the BYD  reservations numbers were accurate as they stated before the motor show started they had a stock  of 7,000 2023 models  and the final numbers were approx 5,000 reservations

     reservations deposits were between B1,000-B10,000

I expect that the 53,438 total motor show reservations which include 17,517 ev registrations will be reduced by 50% over the registrations months of May for end of March  motor show reservations and June  registrations for April  motor show reservations assuming that the vehicles with the exception of BYD 2023 models weren't in stock at the time of the reservation

I disagree.  A car bought in early February could well appear in February registrations.  Chiang Rai runs 2-3 weeks lead time in issuing Tabien Rot.

I do agree that a months registrations are mostly the previous month's sales.

My point is that you can't have double dipping using registration figures for sales figures

Total number of EV registrations for 2024 to date  is 22,289 however

Total number of EV sales for 2024 to date is 8,636

Indeed, January 2024 began well. EV sales registrations for the month came to 13,653 new cars. In turn, this was 20.5% of what was already a depressed car market this year in Thailand.

    https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2024/04/26/sales-of-ev-cars-fell-in-thailand-in-february-and-march-2024/

January figures of 13,653 registrations are mostly December 2023 sales

BYD report sales of 37,000 for the whole of 2023 however if you exclude December sales that figure drops to 29,000

January figures of 13,653 registrations are December 2023 sales likewise

February registrations  (January Sales ) for  EV's were 3,635

March  registrations ( February Sales ) for EV's were 5,001

April  registrations ( March Sales ) for EV's currently unknown as figures will be released in May

Interesting article in the Times today noting that the policing of the pro-Hamas demonstrations in the UK have cost the UK taxpayer at least £32.3 million so far. Lord Walney, the government’s independent advisor on political violence is advocating clawing back some of the policing costs from the organisers of these protests (good luck with that)

Interesting to note that the police have to attend the pro-Hamas protests because of concerns over the behaviour of these marchers and their blatant antisemitism and clear expressions of hatred, but also have to attend any pro Israel / free the hostages protests, in order to guard these protesters from being attacked by extremists.

UK EXTREMISM ADVISER HAS BEEN FUNDED BY ISRAEL LOBBY

John Woodcock, the government’s man urging MPs to stop engaging with pro-Palestine groups, has accepted Israel lobby funding amid the Gaza genocide.

Yet Woodcock can hardly be considered independent. He has previously worked with the Israel lobby and has even accepted funding from it amid the ongoing genocide in Gaza, Declassified has found.
