I have charged completely drained batteries on motorcycles and cars a million times. What are you talking about ?

"smart" trickle chargers do not charge completely drained batteries. Older ones do.

Have you ever owned one ?

I have owned a trickle charger such as this one

AA Car Battery Solar Charger Maintainer Conditioner - AA Solar Charger

    https://www.care4car.com/12-volt-electrical/aa-car-battery-solar-charger-maintainer-conditioner.html

The main difference between dumb trickle chargers and smart trickle chargers is dumb trickle chargers will continue to charge even if the battery is 100% where smart trickle chargers stop charging when the battery reaches 100%

Look forward to you providing links to your claims of A dumb trickle charger will bring a drained battery back up to charge, everytime. And it is the method battery manufactures recommend. "

Your phone charger isn't designed to charge your phone battery after you run it dead either. But obviously it does happen and if the battery is in satisfactory condition, the charger will bring the battery back to 100%. The same is true for car battery trickle chargers. (the same was true until these new abortions)

Why don't you provide links that support your claims of "A dumb trickle charger will bring a drained battery back up to charge, everytime. And it is the method battery manufactures recommend. "

trickle chargers don't bring a drained battery up to charge

Trickle chargers work at levels where the battery is between 90% and 95% and will top up the battery to 100% and then will cut off

This article states "They can also fail to charge completely dead batteries."

Sorry if my piece wasn't politically correct enough for you. Back to your safe space.

I can tell you've never wrenched on anything in your life. Shop rage is perfectly normal. And the info presented is 100% correct. A smart trickle charger will not charge a drained battery.

A trickle charger is not designed to charge a drained battery

I used a solar trickle charger in  the (UK which is not known for sun everyday) and I left my car standing for more than 100 days and the solar trickle charger top up the battery every day , battery drain while my car was left standing was due to Car security system

A good trickle charger will cut off once the battery has reached 100%

I plugged the trickle charger into the car OBD port as that was always on

Personally I think a solar trickle charger is a brilliant product if your leaving a car standing for long periods

Hybrids come with only about a 1kWh battery by comparison my latest EV has 85kWh gross. Hybrids will only give you a little more efficiency due to regen. By comparison my EV has 580km Range and I can use the bi-directional charging to help power my house.   I use solar to power my off-grid house and E vehicles, resulting in no bills.

I welcome improvements in batteries but my with current EV I can add 7km of range per kWh and can charge at 150kW/hour. So I can add 350km of range in 20 minutes.

Don't trust anything that Toyota says about EV batteries.

Here is the article and link that you forgot to provide

The coin-sized prototype is still in laboratory phase, but to make yourself an idea, the automaker managed a fivefold increase in power output regarding the technology it had in 2012.
These batteries are called “solid state” because the liquid electrolyte used in nickel-metal hydride and lithium ion batteries is replaced by a solid ceramic or polymer electrolyte.

Indeed, the MG4 starts at 1.2M baht in the UK and is the 2nd most popular EV.

If there were no import tariff EV adoption would probably not have stalled.

Chinese cars imported into the UK are currently subject to tariffs of 10% under World Trade Organisation rules.

Its all vehicles not just EV's

Thailand market share of imports into the EU is small at 0.7%

If Thailand wants to export to the EU I think they will mention current Thailand import tariffs on EU cars entering Thailand of between 40% to 80%

Interestingly, MG are up 30%, BYD yet to appear.

I am concerned about Chinese EV’s and these markets and USA.

If they are taxed highly with tariffs then I think EV adoption will stall.  Chinese EV’s are about the same price as ICE equivalents, tax/tariff them to be the same price as non-Chinese EV’s and people won’t buy them, nobody wants to pay 50% more for their car. I certainly wouldn’t.

MG ZS EV in the UK prices range from £30,495-£35,495 or Thai Baht 1.4 million to 1.6 million

Byd seal UK prices range from £45,695 to £48,695 or Thai Baht B 2.1 million to B2.233 million

approx £20,000 difference for entry level Byd seal compared to UK

import tariffs into the UK is currently 10%

It’s not just EV makers, it’s across the board.

More so with EV only manufacturers as they have limited options

MG can scale back production on EV's and change production lines to produce ICE and Hybrid

EV only manufacturers don't have than option its either reduce price or reduce sales

That’s the point, Toyota can’t build EV’s competitively.

What do you do if you’re a legacy manufacturer losing sales to a technology you can’t compete with?

Have you seen the Toyota bZ4x? Have you seen the price?

Doesn't appear to be a problem for Toyota

They have announced a change in their Forecast of Financial Results as there selling more vehicles than they expected

Net sales are expected to increase due to the depreciation of the yen beyond expectations as well as continued high levels of production and sales in the Materials Handling Equipment Segment and the Automobile Segment. All kinds of profits remain unchanged from the previous forecast reflecting the impact of engine certification issue, such as the compensation to customers and suppliers associated with the shipment suspension of engines, although the increase in net sales will contribute to the increase in profit.

  10. There are many different types of subsidies

The statement "Since 1/1/2023 China has not subsidised the manufacture or sale of any EV's. " is incorrect

Since 1/1/2023 There have been no subsidies available for the purchase of EV's by customers however there are tax breaks available to customers who purchase EV's extending to 2027

China Extends NEV Tax Reduction and Exemption Policy to 2027

    https://www.china-briefing.com/news/china-extends-nev-tax-reduction-and-exemption-policy-to-2027/

There are huge subsidies provided to the EV automotive manufacturers

Between January 2023 and June 2023

Among EV assemblers, Shanghai-listed SAIC Motor was the largest recipient of government assistance, bagging over 2 billion yuan in subsidies, almost double from a year ago.

BYD, China's leader in EV sales and set to surpass Volkswagen this year as the country's top-selling auto brand, closely followed SAIC on the subsidy list. It received 1.78 billion yuan in the first half, or close to three times as much as the year before

Not sure where you get 10% from. Bought a new car for the wife and paying under 2% per annum interest on the loan.

Interest rate does depend on % of down payment and how many months installments

As you can see here you can pay a whopping 15.81% per year

    Hi,

I landed in Thailand just under two weeks ago. Most of my stuff is still on a container ship, no doubt dodging Yemeni ordnance. I chucked away my existing computer desk and I need a replacement as the kitchen table is not sustainable ;). I also need a couple of chairs.

Can anyone recommend somewhere in the Sakon Nakhon city area and/ or online suppliers of such items?

My partner is Thai, so I suppose I can deal with lack of English.

Spec out a table height length width with without shelves, with without castors and then ask your partner to get quotes from local wood shop its unlikely that you will see your specs table in any shop and cost should be lower  and better quality than any shop bought

32.95 of the voters are convinced that the Swiss guy will stay in Thailand and
67.05 are convinced that the Swiss guy will be forced to leave Thailand.

    Nearly a 50/50 vote.

Let's wait for the final update on this case and see who had it right.

    Thanks

32.95 vs 67.05 I not sure how you can state Nearly  a 50/50 vote  as the difference is 34.1%

What's really sad is that Minister Anutin probably doesn't even realise he is subverting the course of justice by advocating an outcome yet to be determined by the Court.

Interesting time for farangs (and western countries) if Anutin ever becomes Prime Minister. Expect a sharp swing to China and tougher rules for expats.

EV haters are always going after EV owners for not paying enough tax.

If all the Diesel drivers switched to EVs in Thailand we wouldn't have to subsidize Diesel to the tune of 100 billion Baht

    OilFundinThailand.thumb.jpg.eb119d8138a1b3115f6eda08de1d609e.jpg

It must be a very bleak existence if all EV owners refused to accept any product where diesel has been used as part of the delivery process

No supermarket food, no electrical items such as TV, Fridge, No Solar equipment no replacement parts for EV

no visiting Bars , restaurants, or coffee shops
Not using roads as the construction used to build roads would be using diesel

That is exactly what is happening in the UK currently.

The more your car pollutes, the higher the tax. It can be as high as 125,000 baht for some vehicles in the UK

And This is Thailand just because the UK adopts a policy it doesn't mean that Thailand should adopt the same policy

The primary method for generating electricity is the burning of natural gas which generates 112.6 TWh, and this accounts for 58.68% of the total electricity consumption [2]. Coal is the second most consumed fuel in Thailand, generating 35.1 TWh of electricity or 18.27% of the total consumption [2

    https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-031-31625-8_25#:~:text=

It seems logical to be if drivers are switching from diesel and petrol to  electricity and using more electric that EV drivers should  pay for an additional tax included within the road tax until the point that 100% of electricity generation is from renewable energy
