New Tech Makes EVs Costlier to Repair Gartner predicts that by 2027, the average cost of an EV body and battery serious accident repair will increase by 30%. As a result, vehicles suffering a collision may be more prone to a total write-off as the repair could cost more than its residual value. Equally, more expensive crash repairs may lead to more expensive insurance premiums or even the refusal of insurance companies to cover particular car models. Gartner says the fast reduction of BEV production costs should not be done at the expense of higher repair costs, as it may generate consumer backlash in the long run. New ways to produce a BEV must only be deployed together with processes to ensure low repair costs. https://www.nationthailand.com/blogs/special-edition/ev/40036604

And I failed to mention However, if your goal is to save money, you could pick a remanufactured or salvaged engine. The first ones undergo careful reconstruction and come very close to the newly-built ones. So close that they may come with warranties. On the other hand, salvaged engines are the cheapest option and pose a significant risk of becoming faulty. You have flexibility in terms of which one to pick. Technically, any engine can be installed, but some are a better fit than others. We would suggest you consult with a mechanic before making any decisions. https://www.jdpower.com/cars/shopping-guides/how-much-does-it-cost-to-replace-a-car-engine -

Drivers in Thailand are turning their backs on the EV hype. Sales in April were down further at 18.4% from March EV sales plummet as the Thai market questions the hype. April sees an 18.4% drop, worsening from March 2024. Popular EV brands struggle despite generous Thai government subsidies. The global trend is moving towards EV decline. Is the dream over? It is still too early to say but the real market is presently giving the EV car a big thumbs down. Figures just released for EV sales in April 2024 are damning. They show a continued decline since the January 2024 peak, with sales further down in March. In total, only 4,088 EV cars were sold in Thailand, just 10.75% of the market. https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2024/05/08/thai-drivers-turn-off-evs-hype-april-sales-down-over-18-per-cent/

Unlikely that a replacement engine on an ICE vehicle aged new to 4 years old would warrant a write off engines in most ICE vehicles always in the majority of cases represent 30% or less of the total vehicle price new When it comes to EV the battery represents a higher % of the total vehicle price new so as we have seen in the news and in EV Facebook group ev less than a year old can be written off if new battery is required JD power advises engine replacement costs between $4,000 for standard cars up to $10,000 for for a high-performance engine https://www.jdpower.com/cars/shopping-guides/how-much-does-it-cost-to-replace-a-car-engine -

In 2023, natural gas accounted for the highest total power generation capacity, followed by coal and lignite, with a significant presence of 13 natural gas production facilities, primarily in the Gulf of Thailand. From January to November 2023, the value of energy imports and exports amounted to almost 1.89 trillion Thai baht. Energy consumption that year was around two million barrels worth of commercial primary energy oil equivalent, mainly from petroleum products and natural gas. The Thai government is actively promoting renewable energy to reduce fossil fuel dependency and has seen a year-on-year increase in the usage of renewables.[2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_in_Thailand#cite_note-2 -

“Growth is up this year but it’s slowed,” he says. “The early adopters have embraced the technology but it’s proving to be a bit tricky to get the mass market to adopt EVs.” Cutting prices is an easy way to spur demand, which Costello says is at the heart of the recent cuts. “You’re not cutting prices if the market is healthy.” https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/article/2024/jun/01/ev-electric-vehicle-sales-prices-australia Its all down to supply and demand at the moment supply outweighs demand hence price cuts Australia model sales for April show that the top 4 sellers are large SUV and 4 X 4 https://www.carsales.com.au/editorial/details/australias-ev-sales-boom-falters-145948/ -

factory car warranty lifespan ranges from 3 years to 10 years depending on Brand and country Here in Thailand Ford offer 10 year warranty on its powertrain ( engine and transmission guaranteed for 10 years or 150,000 km) In the UK some brands offer 7 year warranties on all their cars MG UK for example offer 7 year warranty while other countries only get 4 year warranty All Toyota and Lexus models UK are covered by a three-year/100,000-mile warranty. Though that isn’t too much to scream home about, there is an extra sweetener. A scheme introduced in 2021 can see that warranty boosted with each service. Toyota’s new ‘Relax’ warranty sees you given another year of coverage every time you have your car serviced at an authorised dealer. This is valid for up to 10 years from your car’s date of manufacture and covers cars already sold by the manufacturer if you’re in the used market. https://www.carwow.co.uk/best/cars-with-good-warranties-0170 -
Great Wall To Close Down European Headquarters, Cancel Further Expansion Great Wall Motors will reportedly shut down its European offices in Munich in August, laying off 100 employees. The automaker will remain in existing markets but cancelled expansion plans to other European countries. Slow sales played a pivotal role in the decision, as Great Wall Motors had only 6,300 registrations in Europe in 2023. https://www.carscoops.com/2024/05/great-wall-to-close-down-european-headquarters-cancel-further-expansion/ In 2023 GWM registered 6,746 ORA's in Thailand compared to 6,300 for the whole of Europe for the same period
