currently there are no international scheduled flights in Chiang Rai, so no Immigration & Customs standing by. Not a good idea to divert there in case CNX is closed.

Annual travel insurance for worldwide coverage

Thank you for the detailed reply! -
I am a EU national living and working in Thailand. Assuming that, within Thailand, I will rely on my social security office coverage (and possibly pay out of pocket), what are my best options for international coverage? I frequently have 1-2 week trips to EU, US, and other developed countries, where I would want to be covered should I get ill or have an accident. Should I go with a Thai provider or are there international providers with better plans?

I wonder what's the reasoning behind this practice? Wouldn't the operator be able to save on gas by using less aircon? why would the otherwise so entrepreneurial business owners be overlooking such an obvious area to save money?

that's why you should always look for the flight number, rather than the departure time.

great to hear that this story had a happy ending. I would like to ask a related question: Is it advisable to buy NS3G land in the hopes of upgrading it later to chanote and building a house, or is that risky business? If I want to build a house, should I restrict my search purely to chanote land to be on the safe side?

Thank you for this refreshing perspective. With all of us (myself included) having gone through years and years of government schooling, its no wonder that we are all somewhat biased towards schools as a non-negotiable institution, no matter the downsides. Especially in Thailand we see people working their lives away, spending hardly any time with their children only to be able to send them to the "best" school.

RIP Ubon Joe - ASEAN NOW visa expert
triplez replied to Rimmer's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Being in my early thirties I am from a different generation and Ubon Joe is a great example of how to be generous without expecting anything in return. If, in my future years in Thailand, I can be of some help to just a fraction the number of people that he helped, I can be content. He truly was inspirational. -
Thank you very much for the useful advice.

I am about to move into a new house (rental) and was thinking to get a couple of battery-powered smoke detectors from Lazada. (as the house doesn't have any) Is this a good idea? how much should I spend for a decent one? what about CO detectors, also needed?

We just bought a new Veloz (Premium version) and drove it from Bangkok to Chiang Mai with all our belongings. There was a 3 months waitlist when we made our booking in September. I have no major complaints about the car. It drives nicely and I like the safety features. Averaging around 16km/L so far. One common complaint is that there is no cruise control, not sure if comparable Honda or Mazdas have it.

Thai Credit Cards
triplez replied to pontious's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
on the topic of credit cards. What is everyone's experience with the yearly fees? Usually the fees are waived if spending over a certain limit, but last year both my cards offered to waive the fee even though I did not reach the limit (after I called them up) due to Covid. Not sure if the same is possible this year. -
Does anyone have any recent experience (in Bangkok) with obtaining a medical certificate for work permit from a local clinic, not a hospital? (for work permit extension, not initial application)My agent says that the labour office only accepts certificates issued by hospital now. Any truth to that? Usually, obtaining the certificate in a clinic is much faster and cheaper. Hence the question.

Medical certificate for work permit

Does it make sense to check different car dealers?
triplez replied to plus7's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I just ordered a new Toyota a few weeks ago. We checked out a few different dealers and the offers were somewhat different in terms of financing rates, discounts and freebies (but not hugely). What also helped me decide was to join a couple of facebook groups related to the car I was buying, where people post their experience and whether the dealership honored their promised delivery time. -
Certificate of residence in Chaeng Wattana
triplez replied to motyduke's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I was aware of this requirement. And I have done 90 day reports at CW in the past. So I didn't think that was going to be an issue. But unfortunately it was. I am wondering how someone who is traveling frequently enough to not be needing 90 day reporting would go about getting the Residence Certificate then.. -
Certificate of residence in Chaeng Wattana
triplez replied to motyduke's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
TaoNow, Thanks for your reply. I went to Chaeng Wattana this morning. I did have a printout of the acknowledgement page of the last 90 day report (online). But unfortunately for this immigration officer that was not good enough as the 90 day report was "too old" (about 1 year old, I have since traveled in/out of Thailand several times, so 90 day report was not needed). So they told me to either wait 90 days, do a new report and then apply for the Residence Certificate, or get it from the embassy instead.
