I recently transferred from my Foreign Currency Account with Bkk Bank to my UK bank. Had to fill in the form at the main branch. £20,000 cost me £126 in charges, no conversion involved at all.

You do not need any SIM card in your phone to connect to the Internet or to install an app on Google Play if you connect via WiFi. I just did it on my phone with a Thai SIM and no VPN.
