Well deduced, but as luck would have it, I am in another time zone right now.

But good detective work, even though you didn't think the problem through (that maybe I am out of Thailand at this time).

Or that you could have bought any alcohol you want from any of the myriads little shops attached to condos who regularly ignore rules and regs.

With Sky Scanner I think you do book directly on the airline website.

I think the issue would be with two separate bookings more than from an agent versus the airline.

With Skyscanner you almost always book through an agency but that makes no difference. Your ticket is with Qatar airways and they are responsible for getting you to Thailand. The transit times can be short indeed. I've done it often with times as low as 45 minutes. Assuming no delays it's doable. Just be aware Qatar will not hold a flight until you get there but they WILL put you on the next available flight. One flight I had from Edinburgh left 25 minutes late, I was met at the arrival gate in Doha by friendly staff who told me I'd missed my flight but had been booked on one two hours later...Don't sweat!

I dunno how dudes live in jomtien or pattaya long term.

Chon buri does something terrible to my head, I  end uo blowing all my money and getting the DTs from the drink and end up leaving broke, stressed , scattered and unsatisfied.

A normal boring day in bangkok is much more satisfying than a week in pattaya on the drink with women around me.

Sorry but thats how i perceive thailand in 2019.

That's one of the maddest post ever. You're talking about yourself but blaming a region. This Dude lives quite happily with long term girlfriend in Jomtien. Nice quiet bars if you want, a clean beach to relax and swim, and none of the craziness of Pattaya.

Try Jomtien. Only a 10-minute bus ride from Pattaya but very different. I only go to Pattaya once or twice a week, and that suits me fine.

Me too. I lived in Bangkok for a year and loved it at first but eventually the constant noise, heat, diesel fumes, prices led me to seek a quieter life. I will eventually retire to Bueng kan where my wife owns land but for the moment Jomtien is a little heaven on Earth

Lots of people complain on these expat sites because it makes them feel that they matter still. Many have failed miserably in relationships or finances in their own country and somehow they feel that gives them the right to put down everything that doesn't fit with their ideal of how it should be here. Quite pathetic actually.

Without judging people I have to agree. The inane, brainless comments on a large number of topics is truly breathtaking.  It may be an attempt at humour but often spills over into ridicule or abuse. As you say, quite pathetic.

I'm currently doing it myself in Bangkok.

    1. Went to Canadian embassy for marriage affidavit: 1200 baht and about 20min.

    2. Went to departememt of consulate affair. Got express translation service of the marriage affidavit: 700 baht and about 15min.

    3. Went upstairs for documents legalization service. Same day service was not available so I took shipping via EMS: 400 baht and about 30min. Documents needed are marriage affidavit + translation, passport photocopy (main page, visas, stamps and departure card) and signed copy of wife ID card front/back.

Now waiting for the last step at wife Amphoe. I'm the only foreigner at this very small village and we expect this step to be easy.

    Thank you for good information

This is a very bitchy forum. I think he meant the agent provided for the witnesses, not the Embassy, hate is a waste of time and who is crying?

If you are lazy like you say then get an agent. There are a few requirements, waiting in multiple queues, different forms, language barrier etc so save yourself the drama and pay someone to do it.

It will be easier and quicker, done in one go.

Some Amphur offices are easy, friendly and efficient, know what they are doing, some useless and difficult and a nightmare.

Some of the people who replied to you sound like they want you to waste your time.

    Strange people.

Thanks for your comments Rob. There were actually more comments which have been deleted by admin.

This is a very valuable resource where people can come for much needed advice and I hope it continues. However many threads show us it is populated by morons who only seem to come on to ridicule or abuse

Elite Visa, and the you are crying about 25k baht? I guess you uncovered your own lie..

Does it feel good to be so judgemental? Watch you don't fall off that high horse you're on. You know nothing about me, my finances, or the reasons behind me getting the elite visa.

Why are you insistent on using an agent ??

Just take the docs to the Amphur and ask for a marriage certificate. Pay the fee, which is about 20 baht and you are done..

Basically because I'm a lazy bugger who would rather pay someone than do it myself (includes repairs etc) ???? However I might just find out exactly how easy it is and take your advice.

    Thank you

  10. I've been quoted 25,000 baht by an agent in Jomtien to handle everything once I get my affirmation of freedom to marry from the British embassy. I know I can do it all myself but I'd rather employ an agent. Does anyone have recommendations for reasonably priced agents in Jomtien/Pattaya?

    thanks

    Old wives tales indeed!

Here is one, inter alia, "The only sure way to protect yourself is DEET"

Actually the CDC recommends another five repellents:

    Picaridin

    IR3535

    Oil of lemon eucalyptus (OLE)

    Para-menthane-diol (PMD)

    2-undecanone

    https://www.cdc.gov/features/stopmosquitoes/index.html

I have successfully used two of the above.

Actually agree with you about citronella and garlic but Skin So Soft (Bug Guard Plus Expedition) contains IR3535 and is approved by CDC ????

Yes I'm aware of the recommendations but my point was about what works for EVERYONE. Skin so soft may indeed contain IR3535 but for the many people who have used it and it has proved to be ineffective these recommendations mean nothing. I'll expand on what I said earlier..there are many deterrents on the market which work for some people. However for those of us who are bitten regularly and have reactions to every bite (swelling, fever, pain etc) it's been shown in many tests that Deet should be the weapon of choice. For myself I've discovered that Picaridin comes a close second and it's a cleaner application

  12. So many old wives tales around treatment/deterrent for mossies...The only sure way to protect yourself is DEET.  If you are bitten then use hydrocortisone cream in conjunction with anti histamine tablets. Those who say citronella, garlic, skin so soft etc work don't have a big problem with bites anyway. There have been many tests done to prove this.

    Yes.

You'll need to go to the Land Office with your new passport, a signed photo copy of the passport, your Drivers License, and proof of address (Yellow Book or letter from Immigration). Best is to check with your local Land Office exactly what they require, but normally is common for all provinces, and if they only renew on certain days/times.

If the paperwork is in order it will take about 30 minutes and cost you around 200 baht to get a new DL.

Remember to change it everywhere you are registered with your passport number, i.e. banks, network access, loyalty cards (you might be able to use benefit points for cash, if you show ID with another number than registered), etc.

    ????

    Thank you

Nothing to worry about. You will always need to renew one or the other at some point. When changing your drivers' license next time they will get it right. Nothing that says a drivers license and the passport needs to be the same number. You can still keep the old license together with the new. Same for the passport.

    Thanks
