His health insurance would have been $ 1 million
Best thing for the old boy was to head homeHe probably does not have a home. 90 and homeless, where do you think he's going to go? We could all end up like him, think before you post.

Thanks for posting this, some of the comments are beautiful, I have not laughed so much in years.
Sounds like a normal night out in Bkk to me. Do you really want to know where you have been and what you did?

This story begs many questions as to how and why? I notice he is wearing a smog mask. Guess he got a lung full of polluted Thai air and wanted to leave?

Biggest problem is the Gov't claim they don't know the cause, when it is obvious to all reading this forum. The Gov't aren't going to do anything about it.

Anyone got Big Jokes e mail address? Time he realized the problems he's causing for his own Thai people too, many of whom depend on us farang.

Not as I understand it. You don't have to bring in an extra 800k every year, you just have to maintain that balance for purposes of visa.

someone already made a very good point earlier - what if you need this 400k baht suddenly for an emergency - medical for example, what happens then ?
This has not been thought through - there must be exceptions for emergencies
This is part of the problem .... they never think things through. They are pushing us to the point where one considers other countries.

Do not laugh ... it's my dream ????
If everyone on this forum contributed their 800k we might afford an island. There comes a point where the visa regulations / costs / pollution / traffic jams cause one to leave. Put it another way, is the pleasure worth the pain?

The problem I have with Thailand is the lack of stability, one never knows when the idiots are going to change the law or what ridiculous requirements there will be. Sad thing is, It's still better than where we all came from!

Many insurance companies refuse cover to the over 60s and those who will provide cover are expensive and cover is limited
Exactly, the people who need it most can't get it. If Immigration ever make health insurance compulsory many of us will be unable to get a Visa. Be careful what one wishes for!

Just out of interest I did a search for travel insurance for 14 days for someone her age. It ranged from 15 to 36 pounds. The sum total of far call.
If people will not spend such a small amount of money to look after themselves sod 'em.
It's about time people were not allowed to board aircraft without demonstrating that they have taken adequate measures to protect themselves when abroad. Alternately- if people turn up at Immigration on arrival and can't show they have insurance introduce a Gov't scheme at B 1500 per person giving full coverage for 30 day visitors. I would also welcome a compulsory scheme for longer term stayers as well. (By the way I AM insured).
Wait till you find out what long term insurance is going to cost you before you suggest they make it compulsory. Most insurance does not cover every medical condition either. There are exemptions.

90% of posters on this thread will still be here at next year's poll saying.. I'm thinking about going to Cambodia
Wait till you find out what Cambodian (Can-bodge) medical care is like.

We are proudly in the top 10 in the world for pollution. World class country for retirees.
If the General had us all only make one trip a year to Immigration instead of every 90 days it would cut down some on pollution. Not to mention make Thailand a more desirable place to retire.

Thailand named in top ten in the world for retirees.
Yeah so long as they don't change the Visa regs again!

I am not clear, is there still the option of a fixed Thai bank deposit of 400K or 800K as an alternative, same as exists now?
Basic problem with the Thais is they come up with these new rules without considering if they will work or not. I am tired of having no stability or surity of Visa with the Thais.
One can always consider other countries but they all have restrictive Visa rules, so where does one go?

Can anyone recommend a good car air con repair shop in Bangkok?
tourist visa from penang
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

It's a long time since I did the Penang run but there used to be agents in most hotel lobbies that would do the visa for you for a small fee whilst you stayed in bed. No need to go to the Consulate yourself.
