You dont think this is going to be applied to those already here on a 12 month O-A Visa? Good luck.

You dont think this is going to be applied to those who apply for any 12 month O Visa? Good luck.

Please read the financial requirements needed for extension's and then come back and tell us why you think it will apply to them

Well, can you clarify what you meant?

I was simply stating a fact:  "...Currently the police order pertains only to new applicants, not for those seeking an extension..."

Your reply to that statement makes no sense:  "impossible to implement, aside that most expats I know have the money to cover or have insurance, only those using agents for 12 month extensions are questionable"

sound's like he is a retired politician lol....word spaghetti

Currently the police order pertains only to new applicants, not for those seeking an extension, but it's only logical that renewal of extensions will be included in the near future.  It will happen, and soon!

If there is one thing Thai legislators are VERY good at, and do with ease, it's drafting new regulations to make things as difficult as possible for Expats...LOL!

Extension a!ready need 400 k a year  in a Thai bank the EXACT amount OA need in insurance !

This is why extension were left out of the announcement

Hope this will be made clearer soon.

Been here almost 14 years - not really many issues. But I had always considered that the 800,000 baht in the bank was a de-factor insurance policy. Have a health issue then use this 800,000 baht - it is two times the required insurance policy.

    What am I missing here?

No need for insurance on retirement extension. This is not about extension. ignore the scare Mungers crystal ball gazing and endless what if scenario's.

Typically Thai women are naturally lean.

If someone desire chubby and more kilos they should go to western countries.

I read many news article that western people are suffering from overweight, specially women and children.

Not anymore and especially after 40 they grow sideways at an alarming rate. They are short so it doesn't take much

I bet a lot of folks use Non-OAs based on the posts I've read over the years.

And what makes it bad is immigration could wake-up tomorrow and decide since non-OAs and extensions of stay are really the same thing---both long stays of 1 year---we need to apply the medical insurance rule to extensions also....just all one year long stays regardless of what their official names are.

Compared to retirement extension? I've been here many years and living in a farang ghetto lower suk I can confirm the many expats I know are all on retirement extensions . This insurance will probably only effect a very small percentage of expats

Yes, I know these policies are specifically written to meet TI requirements.

The problem is they are dreadful policies, poorly designed with completely inadequate levels of cover and grossly overpriced (inevitable when you design a product solely for the elderly).

Meanwhile people with real, meaningful insurance policies are excluded. Ridiculous.

No one in their right mind is going to cancel a "real" policy that they have held for years and provides ample cover. And who on earth, already having such insurance, is going to spend that kind of money for a second, largely useless, policy? Might as well just pay for an Elite Visa.

    Or go elsewhere.

How many people will it really effect? Most of the majority are on retirement extension

I suspect the number would be tiny

Well i checked around and found cost excessive at 65! 7k to 22k USD/year.

To that end i cannot afford the cost! Anyway just have to plan and leave my Thai wife.

I'm convinced the "Thai Government" will take good care of her like i have been doing for the past 11 years!

So dump your wife over an insurance policy? its true Thailand does attract the lowest of the low.

So at this stage it is mandatory for every entry under an O-A Visa to have 12 months medical insurance.  So if you arrive first time = compulsory. If you leave and re-enter = compulsory.

But for those that enter and stay, and are seeking an extension of their permission to stay, it is not (yet) mandatory.  What are the odds that it will soon be mandatory for a 12 months extension of an O-A Visa's permission to stay?

Even better odds - the IOs will interpret that it is required for any 12 month extension - even if Immigration do not specifically make that decision.

Stop muddying the waters. Either back it up with a link or stay on topic

Agreed Pattaya attracts cheap charlie Westerners

Not true. Just because pattaya is cheap doesn't mean the tourists are. Every one of my friends all have good paying jobs / businesses with plenty of disposable income and come here for the girls .

Is Google on the ground in Pattaya?

    Are you even in Pattaya?

I know what I see, and I know why I am seeing it, or more to the point, why I am not seeing it.

Pattaya is too cheap and nasty for the seriously wealthy Indians, and too expensive for the package holiday Indians for them to spend freely.

Similarly, Pattaya / Thailand has now positioned itself in a strange place, where this also applies to westerners.

Your kidding? I just got back from Pattaya and plenty of them .Back in my condo lower sukhumvit and my soi has hotels  and Indians causing traffic chaos insisting on walking in the middle of the soi , plenty here to

like I said go to Google and every link will confirm the new generation are big spenders!! none of them say "except in pattaya" lol
