Living here is cheap if you. have a job earning Thai Baht. Living here drawing money from your own countries currency is expensive. Eg in 2008 I was having 178Baht/£ The rate now at the moment 05/09 is 37.4, so now I'm paying twice as much in my countries currency  for the same item and items I buy have gone up negligible.

Of course no working with an O-A visa.  And the USD, although down, has held up much better.

  2. So, how do you reset the administrator password?

My condo safe has a small plate in the front where a key can be used to unlock it.  I guess this is slightly more secure.

Alternately, put something like ฿200 in the safe, lock it and then hide your valuables someplace else.

No need the hotel inform them you stayed 'X' number of nights, so, unless the computer flags another holel afterwards they should assume you have returned home. but, running down and telling them you are home, makes their job easier. If they wanna see ya, they can phone or visit. But, you do it for them.

Wrong. When a TM30 is filed by the hotel, it is the last TM30 on file.  They go by that and not the 24 hours  They make assumptions but not that you returned home.

And remember this is all for Phuket many other IOs do it differently.

  4. I am trying to find a clinic in Chiang Mai that does lasik surgery.  Google doesn't help much with much of the information being years old.  I can only find the procedure at CMU and possibly St Peter Eye Hospital  At this point I am not really interested in alternate procedures or locations outside of CM.  So far it seems that prices are quite high which I don't understand unless they are pricing based on travel tourism.

I wonder why farangs would be interested in using these apps in one of the cheapest countries in the world....

Because it is cheaper than anything except a scooter.  The prices are fixed with just about 0 chance of being scammed.  They are water resistant, air conditioned, safer and comfortable.

Why should they want you? Are immigrants or tourists ever really wanted - rather näive to think so.

Who else is going to pay for the uneducated Thai ladies that married at 15 or younger, have 3 kids and a mother, an absentee father and a pile of easy to get debt?  Not other Thais or the government.

I think the rules said, you need an additional embassy letter to confirm that the money did come from pension and not from your friends/relatives.

Did you present an embassy letter together with it?

Are you saying that embassies who do not issue income letters will issue pension letters?  I think not.  The embassy would have no easy way to prove that your pension was sent to a Thai bank.  They might be able to prove the amount of Social Security payments. It would be problematic to prove other types of pension.  I believe that the embassies have made it clear that they were not in the business of proving anything like that.

  8. I live in CM and use Grab at least 10 time a week.  I have never paid over ฿100 for a trip and the prices are always consistent with the same trip being the same price.  The other night I was waiting to get a Grab and I could not locate it.  I was surprised to find the car was actually a Taxi Meter car.  Grab in CM has always been cheaper than the back breaking Tuk Tuks.  I also use the ฿20 city bus in CM if I am not in a hurry.  At 3 AM or so in the rain, Grab is always the better way to go.  The other advantage is that if you choose to, you don't have to have cash. It can just be charged to your preferred payment method.

After 3 days of waiting, I finally got a registration link in the mail for the App. This is the last day that I would be able to do the 90-day report online.

I entered my information, and when I try to submit, it just says "Report must be completed no more than 15 days and no less than 7 days from due date (see example)"... I looked at their example several times, and I have 10 fingers and toes I can count on as well. II am on the last day I am able to submit. There are two 4-digit numbers in the app that it says you can call for help. The first number doesn't work, but the second one did.

When I told the lady my due date on my last 90-day report form, she confirmed its the last day. She could offer me no assistance... didn't even ask for my passport number. She told me I should try to do it online instead of the app, and when I told her I have tried every browser on multiple computers, she told me to contact immigration directly and gave me a number. I read the number back to her. Then she asked me if I wanted information on the form I needed to do the 90 day report when I arrive at immigration office. She knew before I even got off the phone with her that I wasn't going to get any help from anyone.

When I called the number she gave me, that number just beeps a few times and disconnects.

A million attempts over the last few days. Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explore. iOS App. Android App

I've wasted hours with this over the last few days and made zero progress. An absolute nightmare.

Since you are using the app, try also using the 90 reporting calculator app.  I have been using that app to calculate the days and it has always been correct for me.

I appreciate the reply. I think HK is not an option these days. No Cathay. My friend saw a flight LA to BKK on Cathay for around $600!

Anyway, I was having trouble with the Air Asia website as usual (BKK to CNX) and tried to figure out how to book w Skyscanner and got nowhere. Someone on TV had said they did it. Possible?

HK airport had two days of protest issues which will not happen again.  I have booked with Skyscanner multiple times without issue.  What problem were you having? They do not actually do the booking themselves; they use other companies to do the booking.  One problem is that most search engines compare prices to other search engines.  These other search engines pop up making it hard to see which engine you are looking at sometimes.

Below is a sample flight of BKK to CNX.  You will see the skyscanner cheapest flight and then a list below of places where you pick who to book with along with their prices.AA.JPG.75cad0fc7ba83c67b55c473c1b7dde47.JPG

Male and female medical staff work throughout the Middle East as do many other trades from the Philippines.

As well as the US and Europe.  I know multiple Filipina nurses in the US, who if they don't mind the hard work, earn a veritable fortune.

  12. My Thai GF and I am doing a tour to Chiang Rai and to the Golden Triangle.  There is an optional tour to " Mekong River boat trip to the market on Don Sao Island, Laos" which I am not particularly interested in but the GF might.  There is a small fee in Laos but what I am interested in knowing is if anyone knows if there is Thai immigration involvement upon return.  Since I am not really interested in this optional trip, the hassle of having to do another TM30 is not something I look forward to.
