  1. SH1T, Sadly I have carried guns of one sort of another ( including some pretty big ones ) at work for nearly thirty years. It has gotten to the stage now where I actively avoid the range where ever possible as they no longer have the child like appeal which attracts the majority of folk who have never had to rely on them. I was hoping to avoid them as much as possible in retirement, but reading the number of wanna be John Wayne's on here................it seems they will never go away.

  2. Be wary of " cheap" condos. As stated potential fire a huge problem in the upper floors and what looks good now will only look good in five years time in a properly managed block. In the real world this equates to a reasonable level of annual fees, which does not add up to a cheap condo. Cowboy developers throw cheap blocks up, do not care about management after the thing is completed, and have no sinking fund if things go wrong. Some good, well run blocks in Patters, but not as many as there should be.

  3. Home Pro is a fantastic place for ideas ( and a cheap good quality lunch in the food court ), however often what you see is " out of stock " and if you have the time, a fair amount of their range can be sourced locally at a discount.

  4. Would not be surprised if the laid off workers from the new Aussie built houses in the front of the lovely Moo9 are increasing their income before returning home.

  5. I have built and owned homes in many parts of the world. I have met some decent people in the trade but in reality, one sleeps with one eye open until the deal is done. However, after meeting and contracting with a local man here in Pattaya, my views have changed. Cowboys abound here the same as everwhere else, but when you meet a man of his word, who keeps every promise and never ceases to go the extra mile, it is worthy of comment. I know I have been lucky, but for the new guy coming in, there are people in Pattaya who are honest, hardworking, and as loyal as you would find anywhere in the world. Do not be put off by the wild tales, you never have to take your family to the seedy parts of town as unlike many smaller resorts in the LOS, Pattaya is big enough to have all the facilities your family will need well away from the bits you may not wish them to see. You can not miss the odd beer bar even over the tracks, but so what ? As people have said on this thread the girls in these establishments are fully clothed, in my experience never pushy when a man is with his family and more than willing to talk to, or play the odd game of connect four with the kids, if Dad needs to go to the little boys room, and God help any dirty old man who tried it on, the girls would kill him before you had washed your hands from your ablutions.

  6. Should have built my new pile towards the end of the year. Help appreciated if anyone has experience or knows of a good interior design company. Too much trouble and frustration being dragged around countless furniture shops by the blood-y wife who can never make up her mind. Kinda hope someone could do it all with the wife, giving me more time for the pub !!!! :o

  7. On arrival, try Jameson's Irish pub. Family friendly, and Kim the " Gaffer", I'm sure will be more than happy to hook you up with some of the many regulars who play football.

  8. Heard the same story as Digger. Caution the word and get a good lawer to check land tenure if you go any further. May well be sorted by now, but you never know.

  9. Read this, went into a panic, mailed the chap next door in Natheekarn to see if he was still alive...........result.....he ( and his wonderful Thai wife ) has heard of one mad woman on the estate, who has recently called the cops twice claiming robbery, but admits to three old security guards waliking around the place rather than none, or the odd one as before. The hysteria over every day life in patters is confusing to say the least. With the number of new projects going up, it is reasonable ( sad but true ) to expect that as gangs of hired help from the sticks are laid off, the odd one or two will go bad and attempt a bit of ceime to augment their income before heading back to Issan and the like. Not sure this constitutes a crime wave, or the almost weekly tales of doom in the press. One thing for sure though, wouldn't it be nice to have posts about the Jesters helping homeless kids, or tales of other groups of red roofed Natheekarners helping to rebuild devistated schools in the North ( as i believe they are ).

Would post them myself, if I wasn't stuck in HK for most of the year and thus not in a position for accurate comment, but would appreciate the great and the good on here posting such a tad more often to redress the balance.

  10. True Story:

New boy in charge of Macau in 1999 walks round the town with the head of the Judiciary Police and tells him all the Russian prostitutes walking the streets are a disgrace and must be deported within the month !! Month passes, boys go out on walkabout and the streets are still full of white women. Head boy turns to Chief and says " I thought I told you to get rid of all the Russians", "I did", shouts the hurt head fuzz. " Well what the hel_l are they then ? " shouts big lad.. " well that one's a Pole, she's from the Ukraine etc etc " claims chiefy, " I've deported all the Russians ".

    Can't beat oriental logic.

  11. I'm sure everone on this board is a very nice fellow, or lady ( else he/she, would not have an interest in the fair city ) however, telling people who you don't know, you want somewhere to go to give out all your nice personal information on line, can not be the best of ideas. Mods on the forum may wish to help the less security aware.

  12. Think I posted this before, however, for this thread my father has nothing but praise for the clinic opposite the Dusit's main gates. He had a temporary crown put in that lasted for best part of a year and his UK dentist said it was of a very high standard. Sorry can't remember the name, but easy to find.

  13. Hongkong used to have a very bad reputation and I have not seen any news that it has improved.

A single entry was all they would give me for a Non Imm O visa, despite the marriage certificate.

I doubt tourist visas are any better.

In Hong Kong ask for Mrs. WONG. I think she is Thai/Chinese. Very helpful lady, and will try her best to help.

  14. No worries Patters is plenty safe. The crime is no worse than anywhere in Thailand, just happens to be magnified especially when farang are involved. :D

    :o:D:D:D

    Britmaveric strikes again.

The main problem in Pattaya for a family is burglary. Unfortunately this is much higher in Pattaya than in the rest of the country, perhaps because of the drug problems and the easy pickings from the thousands of farang who have moved into the area. If you want the beach I'd suggest Phuket, it's safer but more expensive.

Totally agree on the burglary front. However, again agreed, there are so many rich pickings in Pattaya, if you install a half decent security system the bounders will go somewhere else, as of yet, professional burglary a very rare if not unheard of occurance. Not so sure Phucket is that much better in the burglary stakes, and it certainly is more expensive in just about every area for a man on a budget. Your kid's school in Patters will have other schools to play sport against, and a wider selection of kids in their social circle. Add on to this cheap airfare in and out of the country for their rellies to come see offspring via BK and Bob's your uncle . Stick with Patters.

  15. Never understood why it is politically correct to hate Nazis, white supremacists and others who try to enforce their own brand of hate on the world, and incorrect to hate another bunch who wish to impose much the same and more if you include the desire for complete supplication on one gender, just because of the colour of their skin. Who are the racists ? Those who ###### tyranny in any form, or those who pick and choose their damnation, dependent on the current flow of liberal acceptance. Patters of all places should be a place where all can come and chill out within the accepted ( and here far more liberal ) norms of society. Regardless of race, colour or creed, murder of anyone is an affront to us all, but if a section of our happy band , constantly seeem to abuse their surroundings ( in particular young ladies from the North trying to get by just like the rest of us ), then why is it wrong for us to wish they would leave ?

  16. Just be careful where you stay, most of the city is as safe as anywhere else.

This is spot on. Pattaya is a city; you would not move a family ( by choice ) into the rough areas of Birmingham, Manchester, Sydney etc etc. However, there are some respectable and very fine places to live in all of the above ( yes even Brum ). Same as jolly Patters, good and bad like all cities. Do not be put off by the bashers who will invade this thread, there are great places for families in Pattaya and the near vicinity. From Horses to fine beaches, all can be found here and unlike some places, you do not have to look that hard. :o

  17. I have it on good authority from a man in the know ( well I went to school with him and his mum's nice ) who works on the contract despute side at the airport. He feels that 28 Sep is a joke, shared even amongst even amongst party supporters. However, they are busting a gut to get it up for a grand hooragghhh !! for the King's birthday.
