  1. "They said that the tourism situation on Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao was dire. A bridge to the main island might help with visits to the other islands."

This is hardly surprising. The counter cultural values which underpined Koh Pangan and Koh Tao have been destroyed by the obsessive law & order junta directive against the full moon parties and the people that attended them. This combined with corrupt police using the medieval drug laws to extort travellers has frightenes people away. The solitary unspoilt beauty of these island has been destroyed by the plethora of resorts and hotels especially on Samui. Koh Pangan and Koh Tao was a profitable niche market, unique to Thailand, alas, destroyed by the orthodoxy of the Junta trying to clean it up. We can see how Pattaya, another unique niche market was destroyed in an attempt to make it conform to mediocrity,  same with the Kao San Road, same with Lower Sukhumvit. The military mindset is totally unsuitable to governance and has been the kiss of death for once thriving tourist areas.

Why do you think that we are uniquely incapable of managing our own affairs, a situation that is normal for a significant number of small Nations, who cope just fine.

I don't understand your point about oil agreements. What do you think will need to be changed about existing licenses and why?

The EU has already clearly signalled that Scotland would be welcome back in the fold. Despite your own unfortunate doubt about our abilities, they don't see is as either too wee or too poor.

The EU has not signalled any such welcome.  Quite the opposite.

Disagree, but nothing to do with my post, which was an explanation to another member what the post he reacted to was about.

Thats me. And 50 years ago when studying and qualifying in constitutional law I might have bothered partaking in the cul de sac discussion of the merits or otherwise of the various voting systems. But I chose not to as it is not as important as solid red constituencies turning blue and other historic mile stones in voting patterns that took place yesterday.

Yes, if you don't understand a post it may seem on topic. Rejecting 'neo Marxist nonsense' has nothing to do with objections against the principles of an election based on districts as opposed to proportional representation.

People understand that the same moaners who query the validity of the election results also opposed the results of the Brexit vote. It is not the system of voting that is at issue. It is the results they dont like. It is also apparent that all sides agreed to fight this and every other election with these rules and then to view the results through the lense of a completely different system of voting is just sour grapes and hard cheese. The result of the the election was a humiliating rejection of the cult of Corbyn and and his anti democracy cohort- anyway you count the votes or try to twist the results. Next you'll be blaming the right wing 'meedjuh.'

    And slipping back down again.

I was correcting the poster who said the baht was soaring. But anyway currently the pound is just over 40bt. It was about 53 the week before Brexit so we have a long way to go. But as the  British economy stabilizes and the Euro declines Sterling will become a desirable currency again. That the last  three years of economic doldrums have not had a more deleterious effect on the UK economy indicates its resilience and indicates future economic growth and stability and a strong sterling.

Now the Fat Lady has sung I just want to say a few words about a Jeremy Corbyn..

    He is a prize <deleted>!

He was a shambles in opposition, failing to take advantage of the poor (Brexit) Tory performance, a disgrace in his inept Brexit (non) policy and with their tepid manifesto- and I am not going anywhere near anti-semitism, Marxism and the IRA.

He has been the cause of good men falling in this election - who could possibly imagine Dennis Skinner losing his Bolsover seat.

The British public may not have taken Boris Johnson to their hearts, but they sure as Hell were not going to risk Labour government led by Corbyn. ..... Labour supporters actually voting Conservative to ensure that didn’t happen....sacre bleu.

The sooner that <deleted> <deleted> off and the Labour review what they want to be (electable or not) the better.

There was an undercurrent that Corbyn and his 1970s SWP style rat pack hated Britain. The identitarian rebellion against the current orthodox majority seemed so hate filled and contemptuous of normal people.
