  1. They are important and have serious meaning for those who did actually earn them.
  2. Seems to me that large bundles of cash changing hands is the daily 'shopping' in Thai politics.
  3. Same in my Thai sons' house. His rule: Thai soapies absolutely not allowed. His daughters don't have TV in their rooms and are not allowed to be in their rooms watching anything on their phones. Soon after son made this rule his defiant/ demanding mother in law (MIL) came to visit and insisted on watching her soapies on the 50" in the living room. Son switched the TV off with the remote. MIL turned it on. Son pulled the TV elec. cord out of the electric strip board. MIL plugged it in again and switched the TV on. Son got his MIL's, his wife's and daughters attention, then he pulled the TV cord out again, then pulled a big set of pliers out of his pocket and cut the plug off the elec. cord that goes into the TV. He put the now separated plug in his pocket also the remote control and disappeared back to the kitchen to get on with his cooking. Five minutes son got a call from his brother in law (calling from Sth. of LOS) insisting that he have more respect for his MIL. Son's response; "It's my house, I make the rules, if any of you folks come to my house you respect my rules, or don't come here, bye". MIL fumed then packed her bag and told her daughter (sons' wife) to drive her to the bus station.. She didn't visit again for about 6 months, and never again tried to insist on anything. Plug had been replaced on the big TV cord, she never again tried to have any influence on what programs are showing on the TV.
  4. Why would Mongolia be a location focus point of the discussions on this subject? Seems to me the discussion of 'a single (historic) female' should, in terms of location, be associated with Africa or the middle east. Why Mongolia? Written history seems to indicate that the first human beings were located in Africa.
  5. I didn't resurrect it - the subject was included in the ASEANNOW daily summary/list for today. The date wasn't visible, but when I clicked on the subject line the previous poSts and date came up, then I noticed the Feb date.
  6. This is basically the same as online shopping sites (which is are what online websites are), who offer a promotion price 1 minute after you click on that product, but there's also text which says (in detail) that the promotion price finishes that same day 5 minutes after the promotion price appeared. Bordering on being dishonest. Rampant capitalism at work.
  7. Except there's always plenty of people who ignore the regulations/prevention measures to stop the spread. It's a global deadly pandemic for gods sake, why are some people so dumb, so stupid, so illogical, so selfish?
  8. A question to folks who have gained A COE and arrived back in Thailand - and the Covid 19 Health insurance requirement. Step 1: Already well known - applicants must submit (amongst several documents) scan/copy of the COVID 19 Health Insurance they have bought. On acceptance of the insurance cover (and more) the embassy issues a COE. Step 2: MY ACTUAL QUESTION: On arrival at destination airport in Thailand, especially Suvarnabhumi, did the arrival inspection officers seriously read/scrutinize your printed health insurance policy? Or was it a very simple quick look, or did they not look at the policy documents at all? Would you please share what your experience was with this item. Thanks.

  10. This point has been answered may times by many global experts. Technology has ramped up enormously in many aspects of research and development of possible vaccines in the last few years, and nowadays much better/much faster data gathering and much faster specific/broad data analysis. Plus of course the 'carrot' for pharmaceutical companies who develop a successful vaccine is in the many billions of dollars. A very big/very attractive carrot. A few weeks ago I saw a TV news spot, a HIV/AIDS researcher was being interviewed, he was bemoaning that 10/20/30 years ago the research/development/data/analysis technology wasn't as advanced as it is today.
  11. Sure, the regulations for any country can and will change quickly and often. What else can anybody expect in a pandemic situation?
  12. There's hundreds of 1, 2, 3, 4, star hotels in that broad area of Bangkok. Must be some open, super easy to check on Agoda, Booking.com, Trip Advisor etc., etc.
  13. And I wonder how the questions were constructed. For several years I was a 'thesis coach' at several Thai universities (all were MBA programs presented in full English). After completing their coursework all students had to prepare and present their thesis work including their full questionnaires (had to be presented and approved before any data gathering could commence) research data and research findings. Many students tried the line 'can I forget the research because I have never learnt how to do research'? This question always got a total NO response and they were reminded that they were offered and encouraged to take a full course late in their program 'Research Methodology'. Many ignored this course because 'my friend told me it's a boring course'. These students were often allowed to get a copy of the course materials at a heavily discounted fee. Typically the survey questions submitted for initial approval: - Were obvious leading questions. This often brought comments like 'yes, but I want to get a specific profile of data to prove my hypothesis'. (Explaining that data which actually disproves the original hypothesis was acceptable because it still shows that you are capable of conducting professional research, which in reality is one of the main reasons why students have to complete a thesis.) - Some complained that 'it's not possible to write questions which aren't leading'. And it took some effort get students away from this approach. A couple of times I refused to allow students to proceed and they complained to the faculty dean that I was not cooperating with their wishes and I was therefore rude. In each case the dean asked me for a copy of the e.mails where I had stopped their work, and the dean then gave his response direct to the student using the same sentences/phrases. - Some questions were on the side of the actual hypothesis statement, in other words not fully focused on the real subject. Therefore unacceptable in a research survey/data. Always an issue was: - The total number of fully completed surveys gathered. (Many times students tried to submit data and findings based on 2 or 3 and even 1 completed survey(s.) When I totally rejected this approach there was always the question 'how many completed/acceptable surveys do I need to gather? - My answer 'at least 200' and I would then change the subject and wait for each student to start a private conversation, which often produced 'I think I can get 100 but not 200'. I asked for a full explanation and listened, then often accepted the 100 completed/acceptable objective.
  14. I started to visit Singapore round 1978 on short term projects. I guess 30 years later I lead a consulting project with the S'pore gov't. In one of the discussion there was mention that the S'pore health ministry had, over many years, received strong recognition from the WHO and various countries in terms of how healthy the Singapore populace is. This led to a comment about the rapid rise in the average height of Singaporeans. I forget the exact numbers but from around 1980 to 2005 - average height had increased by about 12 - 13 centimetres. I asked 'why'. The minister asked one of their senior community health doctor expert/researchers to respond. His response: The mass/serious adoption/daily intake of good quality fresh dairy products. Free in schools and inexpensive in supermarkets etc., and with excellent high impact TV etc., promotion.
  15. Or hesitant, because they're frightened just who might want to be included/involved/share any benefits (regardless of whether they have any entitlement), and demand they be seen as a subject expert (self-aggrandizement) and just who of these folks are very powerful and ruthless to get what they want and will punish someone if they don't get what they want.
  16. Yep, true, COE is just a trick to control the minds of the returning Thai folks and arriving foreigners along with regulations that all folks entering Thailand must be vaccinated and insert a behavioral control function which pushes those vaccinated to force others to get vaccinated which will control birth rates and DNA. Plus it will insert a function to ensure that the poor remain poor etc. NOT!
  17. Now stand by for the 'anti-vakers' and the 'violation of my freedoms' folks to yell. Actually I'm quite OK for airlines and others to be able to check online internationally, because millions will try to use fake vaccine certificates/immunization records etc.
  18. What's also needed is a *strong intelligent ethical gung-ho outspoken national police chief. The one retired a few months ago (had to have his turn in the big chair) achieved nothing and was afraid of his own shadow. Is there a * within their ranks now? Very doubtful, they are all a product of their own system and boys club. Seems to me there are some highly capable ethical senior people in the military. Perhaps a capable ethical senior military officer should be moved into the position with massive powers. And this approach would cut the nexus within the RTP. Ain't going to happen of course...
