  1. Point taken, however my understanding is that the company no longer qualified as a recipient of such funding, all part of the new set up of the company as ageed by the creditors.
  2. I have my doubts. A debt of several billion Baht and they will turn it all around (whatever that means) in 2 years? Not forgetting that they have to pay their current operational costs before they can allocate any excess funds to paying off the massive debt. Seems to me the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing and also doesn't really understand the legal situation or terms involved.
  3. Interesting ... what services do they offer?
  4. Worst verbal harrassment i've witneseed was on arrival in the USA. I arrived with 10 Thai executive MBA students for an invited international case study competition. All the students late 20's / early 30's, all spoke advanced English, all well dressed and groomed, all had visa issued by American Embassy in Bkk, several had done previous trips to the US for studies. I lined up first (entitled to entry on arrival), US passport lady said a polite 'hello', all completed in a few seconds, then a polite 'enjoy your stay'. Next was one of my students, greeted with anger and annoyance and 'why do you come here?', student tried to pull the invitation letter out of the documents she had put on the counter, p'port lady responded quickly/loudly 'never ever touch my documents', then 'I don't really care and we don't need more Asians here'. Same level of agressive and rude attitude continued. One of the young male students well dressed was wearing a beanie when he joined the p'port queue but quickly removed it, then waited while maybe 5 or 6 other arrivals (same group) were processed. When he put his documents on the counter the rude p'port lady said 'why were you wearing a beanie before, are you a girl? Truth is that's he's a very masculine champion football player. Final student in the line was a very pleasant young lady. US p'port lady looked at the uni invitation letter and the visa then said 'are you sure this is legitimate and the real reason you come her, we all know what Thai girls do don't we?' Student was in tears.
  5. He's very busy, just got married, not much free time.
  6. "Was there any "village insurance" in place? Many people pay a fixed (tiny) amount each month to ensure at least a decent send off.' Also known as the 'Village Funeral Fund', but same meaning of course.
  7. Will written in Thai, therefore can't read it. One possibility is to ask the lawyer to give you a copy of the darft on a Word file (or similar), then: - Ask a trusted friend to read the draft being held by the wife/main benficiary to confirm the contents/details in the draft copy held by the wife/husband/beneficiary is the same as in the Word document. - Now translate the Word doc fom Thai to Enligh (google translate of any good translation site). Now the big question; is the translation to English what you were expecting?
  8. Perhaps you could share the template with all members?
  9. Yep, pay enough money and you buy access to a franchise to 'print' money.
  10. Some years back my Brit work colleague had an incient with a taxi driver. Driver locked the doors and demanded extra 500Baht for a short trip. Driver thswinging a pieve of pipe around inside the taxi. Brit guy paid 500 so he could exit the car. Brit guy asked the Admin. Mngr what to do. She suggested call the Tourist Police so the Brit guy could speak to someone in English. A lady answered the phone, cannot speak English. Admin. Mngr. took the phone: - Lady answering was a maid at the Tourist police office, had been instructed to answer any calls. - It was around 1:00 pm. - Lady advised 'all tourist police gone to a birthday party for captain, call back tomorrow'.
  11. 'Few rights...' Well to some extent true in the past re China but not so much today. Unfortunately 'paid very little and have few rights' is common in many countries. How many Thais have no employment contract, nave no rights, get paid late and/or their salary cut for unkown reasons. And similar in many countries. How many stories have we all read about Thai fruit pickers etc., being cheated out of their rightful wages in: Scandinavian countries, Australia, the middle East countries, Israel, and the USA and more?
  12. One of the worst I'm aware of; my uni invited a young female professor from Italy to present one course of lectures (about 12 days). The young lady is an expert in a specific area of economic analysis and quite beautiful. She insisted that she try to take care of herself re transport etc. First morning she hailed a cab just outside of her hotel (about 4 km from the uni.). On arrival she fled the taxi, bystanders asked her what's wrong? Turns out the cabbie was putting his hand to the back of the cab and trying to touch her legs. She got a photo of the cab rego plate, uni sent the photo to DLT. They refused to help 'not enough information'. She finished her lecture on day one, went outside to the kerbside and hailed a taxi. She had the full address / tel. no of the hotel on a slip of paper in Thai language. A few minutes later a couple of her male students who had walked out noticed her banging on the closed taxi window. They demanded the driver unlock the doors, cabbie refused. Students called the police. Two cops close by arrived quickly. Cabbie insisted 'she's farang, she has to pay double'. Cops suggest she pay 50% more than on the meter. She refused to get back in the cab. Cabbie drives away disgruntled. The 2 male students discussed with her, they called a cab and got in then the young lady got in, 15 minute trip to hotel without incident, paid the amount on the meter plus small tip. Next morning same students went to her hotel early and travelled with her to the uni. All the male students then made an am / pm roster to travel with her. Uni director was quite impressed with her work and asked if she could come from Italy 3 or 4 times each year. She refused.
  13. Ask. Obviously the foreigner will need to ask the manager/owner for copies of these documents. No big deal for all concerned. Most companies use these documents often for various business purposes, therefore for ease of use would be readily available. If the manager/owner wants the expertise of the foreginer not a big deal. The company documents required don't have any confidential data (no revenue or sales numbers or anything similar). The details are all available on various government websites which by their nature have public/free access. (e.g. shareholder details, all easily availalble to anybody (read-only) on gov't websites.)
  14. Not always. I've heard of many cases where the person with the WP is the only foreign employee, the company HR/admin folks have no knowledge of this subject and the owner has asked the foreigner to take care of getting/renewing the WP.
  15. My guess (just a guess) is that the OP wants a legal document which states 50/50 custody.
  16. I suspect 'shared account' actually means 'Joint Savings account, either party can sign'. If that's true then surely either party can legally 'drain' the account. I somehow doubt account holders can expect the bank to be aware of what funds were in the account before marriage and expect the bank to monitor such funds. Further, if the 2 parties started a Joint Savings Account, either party can sign before marriage then surely the 'either party can sign' aspect starts on the day the account was started and date of marriage / funds in the account beforr marriage is beside the point. (NOTE: 'Joint Savings account, either party can sign' can be husband and wife, brothers, sisters, father and son etc., bf and gf, and can be friends/business partners not related in any way.)
  17. You mean he can't claim a refund if the product doesn't perform to expectations? That's not fair.
  18. And, just wondering if his 800Baht a day idea is nothing more than vote buying?
  19. But I wasn't talking to anybody, just texting.
  20. Maybe true but also true that many Thais believe they know the law but in fact their 'version' is not correct. Had this many times in the loud know-all relatives of my Thai son's wife. E.g. 1: When my son got married his wife's demanding/loud elder brother tried to inist that my son go with him imediatelt to the local Land Titles Office to transfer the house and and my son had fully owned (chanut in son's name) for some 5 years before they married. Sons wife's brother was loudly insistant that on marriage, by law, the land and house must be transferred to the wife's name. E.g. 2: Sons loud mid-aged lady boy brother in law was discovered making a list of the names, Thai ID numbers, DOB, address etc., of son's wife's father/mother/siblings and all their kids. When asked why he was making this list he explained that it's Thai law that when any Thai person marries and there's a farang in the other family, then the farang must instantly and forever pay all the people related (all on his list) a monthly salary until their death of 50,000Baht. (On many occasions lady boy BIL <never been outside of Thailand, can't read English, Pathom 3 education> had spoken about wealthy farang and was adamant that all farang are rich because all folks who come from farang countries (all ages) get a massive salary every month direct from their government even if they already have a high work salary. He also claimed he had called the Australian embassy about this and they confirmed it's true and it extends to all relatives and in-laws, and the monthly amount is roughly 50,000Bah a month.)
  21. Sadly, there's very little mention, in this thread, for the welfare and hopefully already the development of a much better future of the children who have been so shockingly hurt. I just hope they are now secure and seeing / experiencing lots of love, attention and support with adults who take the time to listen to them.
  22. Well yes and no. Many times I requested professional experts from abroad to join projects here in LOS on a short term basis. I told my Admin. staff in Bkk to book the visitor into one of the excellent 4 star or 5 star hotels we had contracts with and pay for it direct to the hotel. And to bookhotel car to be on stand by with a sign at the arrivals point. Now comes the 'yes and no'. Several times our guests arrived, bookin into the hotel and called me. I always automatically asked if everything was OK. In terms of the hotel mostly YES, but some incidents of extra games, several times my guests from abroad can't find the hotel taxi. Discovered in the coffee shop or guest goes to desk and ends up with an AOT taxi.
