  1. No, you replied to a post without reading it and understanding it? Couchpotato was referring specifically to Brenton Tarrant and not the Kiwi in the story.
  2. BTW, shouting on this forum is not accepted. Learn the rules.
  3. Again, read the post that you replied to instead of back-tracking over your mistakes.
  4. Brenton Harrison Tarrant was from Grafton, NSW, Australia. I think that you need to re-read couchpotato's post.
  5. There is no such thing as Biker gangs According to who? Has someone re-written the English language in the last hour?
  6. Yeah, everyone knows it's in Brazil.
  7. In the past, I have seen news stories in Thailand labeling all kind of ordinance as 'grenades', so when I see the word grenade in a Thai news story, I expect to see a land mine or a mortar bomb that some farmer has dug up. However, these are real fragment grenades. These cannot be classed in the 'self defence' bracket. These are weapons of war, designed to create the maximum carnage. How does an expat make the connections that he would have needed to get hold of this cache? He must have some fantastic stories and friends who the local police, New, Zealand police and Interpol will want him to share.
  8. Shame on all people". But you and others have managed to persuade the op never to go there, based on your horrible experiences. Are you having problems understanding. We shared our real experiences. Why is this so very difficult for you to understand? and admit you only saw one side of the Philippines? I admitted that right near the start of the thread. On the first page of this thread I openly stated 'Maybe I just has a bad experience but it totally put me off going back.'. I was just sharing the side that I had seen, I could not share an experience I never had. And quit having a go at me who has some very positive things to say about it. Why are you now trying to play the victim. Nowhere in this thread have you been attached for giving your views o the Philippines. In fact, you were the one who attacked people for sharing their experiences. If you feel that someone was 'having a go at you' for saying anything very positive about the Philippines, please point out the post.
  9. I and a few of the others did not go to the beautiful, safe, islands and beaches, how are we supposed to share experiences that we never had. Are you suggesting that we should lie or be quiet of what we experienced because it doesn't match your views and experiences? You still think that you understand this thread after shaming the people who have tried to share their personal experiences?
  10. Shame all.people can talk about is mugging and thievery in the city centres. Shame for sharing the experiences and feelings that they had personally witnessed and gone through, to another poster asking for people's personal views on the safety on the country ? Shame on you for not understanding what the thread is about.
  11. I'm presuming that the remark of the poster 'zzzzz' was to highlight how fabricated and ridiculous Jurin Laksanawisit's claim of 566% (without evidence) really is. Strange how a sense of humour post can go over some people's heads. ????
  12. cannabis use was a huge problem No it wasn't, the laws and judicial system that you were a part of was the problem.
  13. If you are within a family group then you will be protected by them And if my grandmother had wheels, she would have been a bike. The OP is a single female traveler and is not in a family group, nor does she have any guides to steer her clear of problems.
  14. Given that this is a Thai politician, the figure of 566% will most likely have been made up on the spot. Even if it were a true figure, it would mean absolutely nothing. Before the decriminalisation, paranoid smokers would not go to a hospital knowing that they would be arrested and end up serving a stretch in prison.
  15. weed when abused results in serious permanent mental issues And alcohol doesn't? ????
  16. Emergency Room admissions for cannabis up 566% as parties call for it to again be criminalised This message was co-sponsored by Boonrawd Brewery, ThaiBev and the the Thai Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association. ????
  17. top government agency has also revealed that the number of young people under 20 now using the drug has doubled since it was decriminalised in June. top government agency has also revealed that the number of young people under 20 now openly buying and using the drug rather than hiding it in the shadows and buying their smoke from dangerous underground drug dealers has doubled since it was decriminalised in June. There yo go Mr. Laksanawisit, fixed that for you.
  18. Yes Hong Kong. The Traveler's Rest was on the 16th floor of A block and was a Mecca for backpackers. John the book was an absolute legend, he was wasting away (IIRC he had MS) and never left the hostel (ever), he just shuffled about the hostel. He would buy travel books from backpackers passing through and sell them to other backpackers to sustain his existence. He must have met and dealt with thousands of travelers and as mentioned above, became quite a legend, apparently a very interesting man to meet. Sorry to other posters for taking this thread off topic.
  19. So to sum up this thread, many posters that have been to the P.I.s have stated that they didn't feel safe there. Most of the other posters waxing lyrical about the place end their post with a but and a warning. Why would you want to go on a 'relaxing' holiday to somewhere where you had to be on your toes, even in the safer areas?
  20. Do you mean in the area of the EDSA Entertainment Complex as EDSA itself is a long road? I really don't know, it was a long time ago, I stayed in the Byron Edsa Hotel if that helps. Maybe I just has a bad experience but it totally put me off going back.
  21. He had already proved that by stating in essence that alcohol did not have any effect on how Thais drive.
  22. Please advise me, how long have you been driving on the roads in mainland Thailand (away from the tourist areas)? How many Thai drivers do you really actually know. BTW, the reason why the police are checking for drunk drivers in Pattaya is mainly because of the amount of Westerners who drink drive in the area.
