  1. My Wildtrak 3.2 is serviced at 15,000 km intervals. As is my 2.2 XLT.

Your post suggests a shortfall in the service periodicity. You could have an older model (which I believe should be serviced every 10,000 km) or a newer model with a service periodicity I'm unaware of.

There's also a recommended time periodicity stated in the handbook/service schedule.

Even so, lack of use can bring on defects/failures that would otherwise only be expected at a later date. Something I've recently experienced with my wife's sedan.

This is my translation from the owners manual I have which is in Thai. If anyone desires the Thai text I can post that too. The bold text below should answer the OP question: "They said that after such a long trip they had to let the engine 'relax'. Is this necessary or bu..s.it?"

These are just rough guidelines as there are going to be so many different scenarios but I think any guy knows when he's been working his ride hard and the engine is hot.

    From the manual:

    ---------------------------------------
Precautions for stopping the turbo charged Diesel engine.

After driving at high speed or driving for a long time, etc., causing the engine to work very hard before turning off the engine it should idle as shown in the table.
    ---------------------------------------
Driving conditions and engine idle time
    ---------------------------------------
    -Normal city driving-
    Idling time - optional/unnecessary

    -Driving at high speed-

    About 80 km - hrs.

Idling time - about 20 seconds

    About 100 km - hrs.

Idling time - about 1 minute
    ---------------------------------------
Driving on steep slopes or driving continuously for
    long duration
    with a speed exceeding 100 km / h.
idling time - about 2 minutes
    ---------------------------------------
    Caution
Do not turn off the engine immediately
after heavy use to prevent engine damage
    ---------------------------------------

How long does it take to find a place and park?

Once the speed decreases, things start to cool down quicker than an instant halt because of airflow. Not quite the same scenario as an instant halt.

If temperature after usage is such a significant risk, a competent design would include a 'shutdown' timer as standard. However, nowadays the industry is going in the opposite direction by including 'auto shutdown' for reasons of ecology.

Any such instruction in a handbook is just a caveat against poor design (by the manufacturer) or poor maintenance (by the owner).

  3. After using PTT years ago. I got smart and haven't used it since. Coked throttle bodies and plugs taught me the true cost of their fuels. Ever since I've used Shell with Caltex being a very rare fallback if I mess up.

Wouldn't be surprised to learn that the standard for Bio-Diesel contamination has been altered across the board. A reduction in contamination isn't a bad thing, in my opinion.

Well I know that is not right, big detached sold just up the road at a so called auction last month, one person there who just happened to be head of the residents committee. First bit accepted as nobody else there- only he knew about it and he got it almost half price

Without a reserve price at auction, it's possible that the assets can be sold for peanuts.

However, the outcome requires the legitimate owner to permit a concession of the reserved price (lift the reserve price). It all depends on their set minimum value for recovery.

Doubt the OP's friend will now have any significant influence on that. Perhaps a second 'Hail Mary' negotiation could be possible if the auction collapses.

Best that the OP has a conversation with the true owner, without committing to anything. Asking for any terms to be put in writing. Then visit a lawyer and file accordingly.

I will never understand the logic behind turning off the Traffic Lights at night.

There was a similar Accident in  the Village where I live last night - Lights turned off  at 8pm

Another senseless waste of life on Thai roads.

RIP those affected, and I hope the survivors recover without any lasting problems.

Common practice in many countries. Junctions are then subjected to Right of Way rules.

Must be far too complicated for Thais to comprehend.

If there's a choice then 'me first' becomes the mandatory circumstance here.  Thais rule!

Beats grovelling around on the floor when you're not as supple as you once were. Reduces levels of incompetence you are forced to deal with, for needed simple tasks, also.

Rarely see torque drivers in workshops here and I include some popular dealerships in my comment. With fewer setting them to the correct torque, even if they know what torque should be be set. Most use them for show.

Appearance is everything to the unknowing.

onths oYes we had a cost reduction also but just a few hundred baht. This has nothing to do with the meter rebate however.

After months of listening to crickets about our rebate (which was the primary salient point I made). We got our rebate week 3 of last month.

Guess we outdid you on that figure also!

As of yet, I have never known the handbrake ratchet thing to work on any of my cars, not even my newish weee Suzuki, they said "handbrake" at my Suzuki garage, I said "Naaah", I showed them how to do it, but it did mean taking the drums off, well, they were cleaning the crud out anyhooooo...With the Vigo, B-quik knew the handbrake thing was useless, they were programmed to adjust through the "window", probably why Toyota put one there...????

Standard maintenance for drum brakes. Has been for many decades. Not just a Toyota innovation.

A goodly percentage of "mechanics/technicians" can't/won't read the manuals, or listen to their team leader whom can't read either.

Competence isn't a direct reflection of any companies competencies.  If I find competence, I give them repetitious visits.  Our local B-quick is garbage and local is more than a 100km round trip.

Stuff like brakes, I do myself. I've got a 2 post lift.

  9. You mention 'rental' and 'lease'. There's a difference in rights, between the two. In fact you don't have ownership of the house or land. Assuming all is legal, in either case you have the right to negotiate the cost of removing an impediment to a legal transfer of the property. That's it. 10% of the overall value is extortion on your part.

If your lease/rental hasn't been legally registered you have fewer rights which could realistically only be resolved by legal contention, which could cost you more than your ideal salutary amount.

Recouping your paid 'rental/lease' would probably be the limit of your entitlement.

  10. Thai Car Rent if they're still operating.

Years ago now, but I used them for short and long term rent/lease. They were very good and upon return, they never tried to scam me with "stone chip" or "minor scratch" damage. Unlike Avis and Budget.

I got some amazing upgrades when my vehicle was serviced also.

When I rented their insurance terms were "class one'. Fortunately I didn't need to use it.

Don't be fooled by 'class one' insurance. Cover is restricted by the premium paid. A good ride can cost tens of thousands, approaching (if not exceeding) a hundred thousand.

It's the same with cheaper auto's.

Looks like the 6,000 was rounded up from 5.900 and that was the price of the part. Terrible handwriting. Looks like your compressor came without a clutch which was an additional charge (maybe just for refitting the original).

No idea what line item 3 relates to.

You were charged for the initial diagnosis (line item 1) and it seems subsequent labor was added in increments.

No part numbers quoted, so what you now have is a mystery.

If it's working you're winning. Hope it stays that way.

  12. With experience from properties we sold over the last few years. Banks are looking at what they can recoup if the buyer defaults. Subsequently, they tend to approve a loan for value less than a figure which they can recoup if the buyer defaults. If you're considering percentage values, then giving a pass on that thought is worthy of merit.

Loans can be procured from other sources and subsequently have fewer procedural rights.

At the moment, property investment is more of a Hail Mary than a Punt. Having the funds to invest for a long term investment could well be a winner.

I make chips thus; Wash potatoes, leave skin on. Wrap in kitchen towel. Put in microwave for four minutes. Slice into the desired shape and the toss in olive oil or your choice of oil and then season. Pop into convection oven either placed on wire grill or in baking tin. Around 200 Celsius should do it.

Something in between chips and crispy roast potatoes with a fluffy inside. Tasty anyway.

Frozen fries here are an abomination.

Generally I cook mine before eating.

Secondly, I absolutely hate Asian spuds. We have a Phillips air fryer which does nothing other than cook fries. Sunny Day.

No crumbs, no slime, easy to clean and not Asian.

  14. The insurance company deals with more than one repair shop and some are dealership owned. Preferences are given to repair shops that minimize the cost to the insurer. Generally that won't be in your favor.

If you become an awkward customer, they'll provide alternatives for you to  select.

A few years ago our daughters car was repaired at the local main dealership for Honda. It was on the list and I took a look at the facility before selecting. Her car was a Nissan. They did an excellent job.

  15. There's specifications applicable to tire repairs. So, your tire guy becomes questionable.

And the question is: Would they apply the specifications with integrity?

At 3 years old, it would be better to change 2 tires. Left and Right of front or rear.

If your budget permits it, change 2 tires.

thats awesome, but the Ranger did not get the duratorq until the 2007 update, prior to that it had the WL-T Mazda engine.

So, finally we agree that that the OP's vehicle would have had the Dagenham motor.

Durotorq was a 1990's motor fitted to a lot of Brit vehicles. Including the Ranger (late 90's). Never suggested that the vehicle in the OP's photo was a Durotorq. And never suggested mine was either.

Production of the Dagenham motor was contractually passed to Mazda.

Why would you wear a mask in the open air street anyway...

Depends on a number of variable I suppose. The number and close proximity of others being one I would consider. I would make my own judgement at any particular circumstance. I'm an adult and am fully capable of making my own decisions regarding my personal safety.

Regarding wearing a mask at a restaurant. Some-one, some-where is messing with you. There's no way I'd comply. The whole point of going to a restaurant is to have a pleasant experience. Not a nanny mandated compliance to lack of comfort.

Normally food is ingested orally and secreted anally. No way am I dining out and stuffing food where a monkey stores its nuts.
