How far do they want to take the anti farang sentiment?
Answer this and there is your answer....
What anti farang Sentiment? Are major politicians on TV everyday harassing the
99 percent who are non-immigrants by definition and self supporting?

So condominiums will be confiscated?Article 44 allows the current PM to bypass all this at the stroke of a pen.[emoji20]

They actually told me to get a Thai friend to register for me. Walking around with a Thai persons cash card sounds an easy way to get arrested over some misunderstanding won’t be doing that. Charged my RABBIT at MacDonalds yesterday no problem.
Thailand, hub of backwards thinking. Will probably just give it away.

Bodies
in Chiang Mai
Probably like every other country where they are given to Medical schools as cadavers for training.
Then a paupers’ grave. -
Or just closed. Got back to see Food Factory gone replaced with a lifeless imitation of another new mall. The food upstairs has always been pretty unappetizing. Guess the PI band had to find a new too.

But whats thats saying it you claim it back... From the country you are not resident in..
Exactly what I am saying..
And what I am saying about personal allowances before is again, relavant if you live in the UK.. If you are resident here it is Thailands personal allowance thats relevant.
And really who out of the current retirees has a Thai tax number is filing Thai tax returns etc.. If they decide to enforce the law, it will be required. It is in so many other countries, why wouldnt they here.
Why? The current measures to squeeze out low income Farangs, requirements for visas and maybe insurance, seem to be working. Rich foreigners will still be tolerated as they are worldwide. -
Used for several years, many points.
Now they say it must be registered (Thai ID card only). I won’t have one in this lifetime.
Call center no English.
Any possibility to register with passport?
Getting more backward by the day.

Unless you have a home in the U.S. or really know how to fool Schwab you are living on borrowed time.
I also have the brokerage investment account, and Schwab is actively seeking out and promptly canceling all investment accounts that live overseas! And I do not blame them.
The Schwab account lets you transfer overseas at 25 dollars a transfer. So that is 350/yr transfer fees.
Again unless you have residence in the states and go back to the states for a few months a year Schwab is on to you, and you will eventually be terminated.
Also good luck opening a Schwab account from abroad.
This post is good in theory but a joke for 95% of the guys that call LOS's their home. From the US.
I have also looked into other banks that offer transfers and ATM rebate's.
I hate to say this but, if you have burnt your bridges in America. And I don't care if you are a millionaire or a pauper, it is going to cost you!
This is not true I know many Americans have the international investors account who live aboard. The service is excellent. Schwab does need to know where your income comes from.

Just a follow-up post:
I received e-mail confirmation today that my CC payment had cleared. I was advised that I would receive a welcome letter with a member ID number in 4-5 working days.
Much to my surprise, the welcome letter landed in my inbox just a few hours later.
All that remains now is to get the visa stamp at Suvarnabhumi.
I feel like it's safe to exhale for the first time since the U.S. Embassy shafted American expats by eliminating the income affidavits.
Looking forward to five years in LOS with zero contact with the TI mafia. [emoji3]
Zero contact perhaps, if you leave at least once a year. I am looking very closely at PE visa now, no 90 report assistance in Chiang Mai supposedly you can get vip service. Thailand Elite can not not do anything about TM30, which is now required in BKK. I don’t think anybody has been arrested for NOT having a TM30 receipt stapled in their passport yet but without filing a TM30as required you would be in breach of Thai law and subject to fines.- 1

Find a girl, settle down (as the song goes) get a Non Imm O ME from Savannakhet.
No more 90 days, no more proof of incomes, or deposits held in a Thai bank.
I would not marry for a visa but, Good enough advice until the goalpost is again moved.

This is a bit of a non-starter. There is no way Thailand can force another nation to adopt a particular type of passport. What they can do however, is have biometric readers such as fingerprint scanners at immigration. Some other countries already do this.
They can and should ban tourists who don't have biometric passports, whatever country. Thailand should also demand list of criminals from major countries this would keep out much of the trash.

It has been mentioned many times before but Panama is probably the best overall for permanent residency when you factor, weather, economy, healthcare, crime, and ease of immigration and personal property ownership.
In Panama you can get your permanent residency in about 2 months for about $8k USD, I did this myself years ago. Here are the guys I used https://www.joyful-feet.com/panama-citizenship/ It was a straight forward step by step process.
You must use a Panama lawyer and these things can not be done yourself. It can't be stated enough you need to deal with a reliable and honest company which are hard to find but I can verify 100% these guys know what they are doing. Try to get in contact with Peter, he is the guy I was working with.
An ex woking aquintence did the Panama route. I know for a fact he earns USD350K/yr and suspect he has millions he has been in his senior position for many years Thailand hassled him for coming too many times a year year so he turned his back on the Kingdom. What a smart country. Now his Philipina is with him too easier to get her into Panama than the USA.

If this is true. What about the smoking room in Thai's First class lounge ?
Another “Mai Phen Rai “ zone where they also give out booze freely on dry days.- 1

A strict reading of the law then you can’t do your own gardening surprised they allow drivers licenses and don’t require you to hire a maid.

I do anything I want I have not spoken to my landlord from the day I moved in.
And, renting gives 100%
freedom I can move and do as I please at any time while you are stuck trying to sell now or someday with 12,000 other condos. Good luck with that...
Many older condos end up abandoned not worth renting and impossible to sell. The Chinese want new units. They keep building but this is unsustainable.

Smoking has been banned in most places around the world indoors. In the US where the air is clean they have signs near entrances.
Usually surrounded by people smoking which is irritating. In Thailand ridiculous to complain about a puff of smoke with vehicles belching
black exhaust everywhere the North much of the year covered with heavy smoke from agricultural burns already illegal anyway.

I think many COULD come back if they save resources.
Never thought there were so many on a shoestring here but 800k baht is not much money if you plan ahead

If you are American at Bangkok Bank all you have to fill out a from and provide a SS number.
US is one of the largest economies in the "foreign" bank s don't want to be locked out so they comply.
Filing a FBAR is the depositors responsibility takes all of 5 minutes.

800k tied up in a Thai bank at near zero interest. AT&T stock pays a 6.8% dividend, Royal Dutch a 6.09% dividend and British Tobacco Company a 7.7% dividend. So that idle money costs you far more than the $1,800 baht to renew the visa not counting the risk of the baht being devalued or the Thai government suddenly nationalizing the banks. Lastly, getting money into Thailand is easy. Getting it out is another thing.
It is nice to have money to invest but as I said most of the "Thai banks can't be trusted" fellows really are just short on funds..
Nationalizing the banks? Get real. And what if they did still does not mean individuals money would be confiscated.
Getting money out of Thailand is as difficult as going into your branch and requesting a wire there are no capital controls.
An old barstool legend from people who have not worked since the 1970s.

The true translation of don’t trust Thai banks 90% of the time is “can’t stump up the 800”. There is no problem with Thai banks.

Bank of Bangkok (BB) website sets the criteria below to be filled before an account may be opened.
Have any BM's opened BB accounts since the kerfuffle about income certification erupted and, if so, what documents did the branch they approached ask for/accept?
Many thanks in advance for replies.
Required Documents2. Foreigner without work permit
- Passport
-
A reference letter issued by one of the following institutes or organizations or required document
- Embassy located in Thailand
- An overseas bank where the customer holds an account sent via SWIFT
- Trusted individuals such as a Bangkok Bank staff member or customer, director of a private company, permanent residence in Thailand, government or private educational institutes located in Thailand trusted by the Bank
- Trusted companies, e.g., an employment letter from the company if the customer is in the process of applying for a work permit.
-
Document showing ownership of a fixed asset such as a condominium sale/purchase agreement (a condominium which is acceptable to Bangkok Bank) Or a property reservation agreement valued at 100,000 baht or more with a reference letter from the property developer that is acceptable to Bangkok Bank.
Notes: Contact addresses for both Thailand and overseas must be provided (hotel and P.O. Box addresses are not acceptable).
The kad swan kaew mall branch in Chiangmai had been foreigner friendly I opened accounts years ago. Same rules.
There is no rule against it so how does a Thai bank benefit from turning foreigner away?

Oh dear now this. Use up the ACH transfers years ago, but have not been using it for a while
I guess I have to look into this Transferwise product.
If health insurance becomes mandatory ,what then?
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
