  1. In the summer I called London, Hull and Liverpool and all told me the same thing. No employment letter (or self assessment) then no visa. The lady was quite sympathetic but unable to help me. As a result I had no other option but to go for Thailand Elite because my whole life is in Thailand. It seems quite unfair to me because in Germany, Australia and New Zealand I know for a fact visas are issued without employment documents.

  2. The visa is great but in the last 2 days i have tried to open a joint bank account with my wife and as yet have been unable to. I have been told by numerous banks and branches i need a work permit, a retirement visa or a student visa. It seems the privilege entry visa is not a suitable visa for a bank account in Thailand.

From reading around I believe that Thailand Elite has some sort of arrangement with BKK Bank. I already have an account with BKK Bank though (and i am not sure if i would be able to open a joint account?) so i was keen to establish a relationship with a new bank.

  3. I have the funds at SCB. I went to transfer the money to Thailand Privilege Card Co., Ltd account 170-0-12702-0 at Empire Tower branch of Krung Thai bank. If someone could confirm these details are legit I would really appreciate it. My bank suggested I withdraw the cash and carry it across to Krung Thai. Nobody at Krung Thai was able to confirm anything about the account I was told to send to. I would much prefer to transfer it from an account in my own name. What did other members do?

  4. I am just about to send the money for the Superiority Extension. I am a little concerned about this TM30 business though. Even though i have paid one million baht everytime i leave my home to travel abroad or even within Thailand staying just 1 night in a hotel my wife must go to the immigration on my return? This isn't convenience in my opinion it is extreme inconvenience. Could anyone confirm that this is the case for Thailand Elite members?

    Question:

Why would someone pay 1mn for "Elite Privilege Access" with a validity of 10 years when you can get 20 years for the same price (Elite Superior Extension) with the only difference between the 2 being the airport transfers and the health check option? Do people really sacrifice 10 years of membership for the sake of free airport transfers and a medical check? What am I missing?

Nothing that i can see. I am seriously considering the Elite Superiority Extension.

  6. It depends where you apply (and what passport you hold). In the UK it is not possible unless you submit a tax return according to information i was told directly from the consulates . I was however, told differently by a couple of TV posters who said they had first hand experience of getting one or knew people that had. I am from the UK and was planning to apply myself in 2 weeks but i have since decided it will be a waste of time and money for me to travel and apply there.

In other countries it is definitely possible. Germany, NZ and Australia all have confirmed reports of employment letter not being necessary. I have a close friend who got one in New Zealand with no letter of employment (he has a NZ passport). I also read that it may be possible to apply in Australia even if you have a passport from another first world country and are not resident in Australia. I would certainly check this with the embassy/consulate before making travel plans though.

  7. Thank you for taking the time to reply. Unfortunately i do not have any documentary evidence of being retired. I do not file tax documents and do not have a pension. I am just interested to know if anyone has obtained one in London with similar circumstances. I can provide evidence of significant savings/investments if it would be helpful.

I have a friend who got one in New Zealand with no employment documents required but I am not sure what the situation is in London. I am going back to visit family in Europe so would not want to waste my time going to London specially if there was a chance of being declined. As an alternative which Hon. Thai consulate would be the most flexible?

  8. Thank you ubonjoe for your helpful reply. I decided to fly to KL and stay until Saturday. I just wanted to let everyone know I don't think it was me personally refused to cross to Mae Sai. There was a sign saying no visa runs and the officer told me it now was not possible to cross and immediately return. He was actually quite apologetic saying his boss would not allow it. The Immigration office also confirmed this too when I went to enquire about a 7 day extension. Whether this would be the case for those on double entry tourist visas and wanting to activate the second entry I do not know.

  9. I just drove to Mai Sai from Chiang Mai and was not allowed to cross. I was told no more visa runs. I have just completed a 60 day tourist visa plus 30 day extension and today is my last legal day in Thailand. I was told to go to immigration for an extension which I did. At immigration I was told I can get an extension for 7 days and then I must leave. I refused the extension and will instead fly out tomorrow. I have a ticket to leave Thailand though on August 12th so I need another 30 days exempt entry. I have booked a flight already to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow but will it be frowned upon if I immediately return? Possible refusal? My intention was to stay overnight in KL but prices returning to Thailand the next day are incredibly high due to the Eid holiday.

Advice appreciated (I have a brand new UK passport which has only 1 stamp transferring my tourist visa from previous passport)

Mods - can you please add a question mark to the title I can't seem to be able to do it. Thank you.

  10. The double decker Sansai driving range was perfect for my needs, particularly living in the eastern burbs.

For those of you who used to use this driving range, and found it convenient, where are you now going to hit balls?

    Thanks.

I would also like to know too. Did anyone check out the place suggested?

  11. Chiang Mai to Vientiane on Nok for 5,000 baht roundtrip including the Lao visa. It takes approx 2 1/2 hours.

Please tell me how to get from Chiang Mai to Penang faster or for less money.

My point was not to compare Baht for Baht but simply say that Penang remains an easy destination for toursit visa.

If comparing, Penang (Laos) has no visa cost, beaches and places to visit.

Each one can look at the different options and decide by himself depending of budget and personal preference.

It is possible to go to Penang and back with air asia for less than 5000 Baht depending on the promotions. I have one booked for next month myself. Also, as someone pointed out you dont have any fees to enter Malaysia and personally i much prefer to go there rather than Laos.
