  2. I have experienced Amazon to be expensive, both in shipping cost and customs fee to Thailand. Ebay has much better rates, is quick and hassle free. Just bought a new laptop at Ebay for 40$ shipping and less than 40$ customs fees. arrived within a week in Thailand thaisabai

  5. does anyone know a reasonable priced place for a single man, no major health issues, approaching the late 70ties ? looking up the internet, I can only find very remote and expensive retirement places. Budget around 15,000 baht/month (rental only, no meals). Convenience shop near by and swimming pool not a must, but preference. easy travel to nearby supermarkets. Internet present or to be installed. partial Seaview not a must but nice addendum. Longterm rent preferred. any suggestions welcome.
  6. Mangos are cheap now, thanks to Thailand not being able to sell large quantities as previously to Russia (war) and China (lockdown) love them thaisabai
  7. see my earlier comment regarding this subject: you didn't mention if this is after having used a visa agent for several years, I thought that I now qualified for the "normal way" of getting a retirement extension. I was wrong. Went to Jomtien today with all paperwork necessary (Bank statements (up to date copies), residence statement, updated bank book with copies, bank letter (signed) passport copies (signed), both official TM forms (signed) service was friendly and the problem was explained in detail. Whilst I was under the expression that the 800.000 + have to be in the bank for 3 months prior to the application, I was wrong. they explained to me that this amount had to be in the bank for 1 year (since the date of the last year extension) but can temporarily go down to 400.000, then up again to 800.000, 3 months before the application. I then went to my former visa agent (the one I paid all these years) who was able to fix the problem for a very reasonable amount. I was also told that next year I wouldn't have a problem if the bank account remains at 800.000 (temporarily 400.000) something learned again thaisabai
  8. thank you all for your comments itis clear now (won't happen again) thaisabai

  11. a friend of mine (US-German nationality) is on the move to Thailand (Koh Samui) he went to an agent to get a retirement extension (O) he was told by the agent he needs a bank account. He went to Bangkok Bank and was told in order to open an account he needs to have a long term visa, like the retirement extension. what are his options? thaisabai

  14. google Dr. Nattawat eye clinic in Pattaya (There are two most popular alternatives when it comes to great English-speaking eye doctors in Pattaya. One can be found at Pattaya Eye Center and the other at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya’s Eye Center. At Pattaya Eye Center, look for Dr.Nattawat as he particularly specializes in cataract surgery. speaks excellent English. very good experience, had both cataracts taken care of (save 40.000 - 50.000 Baht compared with the leading hospital in Pattaya) thaisabai

  18. To whom it may concern Just want to express my gratitude/experience of accommodation in "dead" Pattaya. I stay in Opey DE place hotel in soi Lengkee (off soi Bhuakao). Whilst I have several friends living in apartment buildings with no facilities nearby, swimming pools closed (most of them), I feel very comfortable here since 2 years. Several of these apartment renters are visiting here on a daily basis to use our facilities. For longstay customers very reasonable prices, (beats most apartments) reasonable and good tasting food and yes restaurant is open, (many items at 35 Baht), nice swimming pool (one of the few remaining open). visitors in the room permitted, big screen TV's, big rooms (street view or pool view) excellent free internet, friendly personnel, and you have a choice of daily room cleaning or for a further discount room cleaning every 3 days, good and cheap laundry service. Excellent location, 7-11 and Family mart just 100 meter away and big C extra just 5 minutes away with motorbike taxi. Just wanted to express my gratitude for having found such a nice place to stay thaisabai
  19. I agree with most comments: Bangkok Bank opposite soi 6 is very good, using them since 10 years. very little documentation required to open an account. Despite that, i had a bit of a problem yesterday. I needed 80,000 Baht for an eye surgery. went to the soi Bhuakao branch and presented my US-visa card. Was told, this card does not work because the card number is printed (flat, not raised numbers) so they couldn't process it. then I tried my US debit card and was told the limit for withdrawal is 25,000 Baht. Finally I used my Bangkok bank Mastercard and they allowed me to withdraw 60,000 Baht. Then I went to the ATM and managed to withdraw another 25,000 Baht with my US debit card. Only mistake I made: I didn't count the 60,000 I got inside bc I trusted the counting machine which displayed 60,000 and did not recount the money they gave me. 2nd mistake I made at the ATM outside by again not counting the 25,000 Baht withdraw, because behind me was a girl, very nervous waiting to use the ATM; she seemed to be in a hurry or needed to pee! after returning to my place, I counted my money and was 4,000 Baht short ! Lesson learned !
