how about driving under the influence of nothing but intelligence?
The overwhelming majority of people involved in accidents were doing just that, To one degree or another

So now one can be determined to be "heavily under the influence" of cannabis purely on the word of a friend? but one needs to be properly tested at a police station for alcohol? Seems a little unfair, I call b/s on the whole story.
The only things this incident has highlighted is, One, the appalling standard of journalism at the Thaiger, and, Two, The start of medias next wave of anti cannabis fairy stories that I predicted would soon follow the announcement of the authorities intention to recriminalize cannabis
It doesn't seem to matter how incredulous the story , there is no shortage of people only two willing to believe what they read in the papers or especially on line
Incidentally as far as I am aware, this is actually the first ever "news" report alleging the contributory involvement of cannabis in a traffic incident, and it is as I said above , based purely on the words of his friend,
Now can somebody tell me how many instances of DUI have occured since the legalisation of cannabis , and in how many instances was a conviction secured purely on the word of an alleged drunk driver friend ?
Is it only me that finds this rubbish an insult to one's intelligence

Vacuous statement with absolutely no relevance to this thread. Of course there is corruption, corruption occurs in every country in the world. This man is one of the good guys who does his job and tries to stop it.
its make your mind up time, First you said " He is the policeman who enforced existing regulations and stopped corruption"
and now you are saying ".Of course there is corruption, corruption occurs in every country in the world."
So which is it ? You cannot have your cake and eat it

So is her fate to be decided in court or in the police station? Abysmal reporting as usual

I freely admit to liking this guy. I object to your labelling me as a result. And as for being "gullible" for supporting Pita? Patronising rubbish. Do you have any better candidates than Hakparn and Pita for my support?
So basically you "like" him based purely on his media image, which he doubtless has professional PR people taking care of. That sounds more than a bit weird to me. But then again I was never taken in by "celebrity culture" The fact is any support you may wish to give is limited to posting on here really, so as such it doesn't really matter who you side with , why even bother?

Because you have a house to come back to and somewhere to keep all your things and somewhere to live when you decide to settle down and stop travelling. Single blokes with all their gear that can fit in a bag or two and living in a 30m2 room just dont have the need. That was me when a lot younger - now we take aseveral days to pack bags for a trip away somewhere.
several days !

well done, you even managed to mention Trump in a thread about badly behaved tourists. That's incredible ! Unless of course you were referring to the legendary british actor and star of 80's TV sit coms the late great Donald Sinden or maybe Hollywood actor Donald Sutherland

World wide, very very few people become wealthy by being whiter than white, In Thailand nobody gets there without being as bent as a boomerang.Only an innocent child with severe learning difficulties would think otherwise. How easily some people are sucked in by a carefully choreographed media PR campaign is actually quite concerning. Not unlike white lab rats that have had there natural instincts bred out of them and display no fear of predators

1. He is independently wealthy
2. He chose to join the police
Neither reason is valid
There have been a few complaints about him on this forum because he enforced the law regarding visa renewals which prevents foreigners from bribing immigration officials to renew visas or to give inappropriate visas.
It seems he's ok with them as long as he doesn't prevent their corrupt practices. I strongly suspect it is those corrupt people with a grudge against him for enforcing honesty by immigration who are posting negative comments about him and putting laughter emojis to those who support him
There are absolutely no inherent obstacles standing in the way of bribing immigration or any other official in Thailand, This jokers "anti corruption" measures were limited to having immigration offices remove their tip boxes from the prominent counter top positions they used to occupy. Most tip boxes were simply moved under the counter temporarily,
I have no grudge against him personally, but for any on here to actually support him or claim he is some sort of angel displays a child like naivety and a laughter emoji is unfortunately the only appropriate response available at present, Do these people also believe that politicians exist for the benefit of society ? "to make a difference" ? judging my some of the gushing comments about "Pita" it would appear so. I didn't realise such gullible souls still existed these days, bless them.

maybe you have someone who looks after your place while your gone, but you just babbled on and didn't explain what security measures you employ.
And again I'll repeat for you ... I wouldn't live in a free standing house out in the country as it'll get burgled for sure.
so lets leave it at that.
enough said.
Without doubt, once they get to know you there will be problems, enough said, let's leave it at that
I may be wrong but i suspect this could become a "popular post "

In some countries, even Thailand, this problem would need the input of the local mafia or triads who would intervene where the police would not or could not. Buy the squatters some tables in restaurant to show good faith and the squatters would then exit the house without losing face. Asian style problem solving.
Why stop there, give them a big Wai and some hard cash and a case of Lao Khao,

Never buy a stand alone house anywhere in Thailand. Only buy in a gated community and make sure it's a decent gated community and not a load of Thais all related living there or you'll have the same issue.
The downside to living here, you can't have a nice couple of private acres with fruit trees and a garden etc ...
or if you do you can never go away on a trip.
Well I wouldn't live in a "gated community" if you paid me, I also have fruit trees and a garden, I frequently make trips away, and have never had any issues. Kind of rubbishes your theory

Nowadays even if camera cctv has no power supply or internet wifi, you can use a SIM card solar powered camera to monitor remotely your remote farm or house.
For all the good ot would do you, Imagine, as a foreigner, reporting squatters in your house, to the Thai police, from thousands of miles away, What do you think would happen, ? If you expect them to mobilise a swat team or anybody else for that matter , you are going to end up very disappointed. Are you relatively new to Thailand by any chance?

Indeed , the operative word being "discourage" Its been proved time and time again that banning things does little to discourage anybody doing anything. Here's a novel idea, why not try educating people, and going one further amd really thinking outside of the box, why not start educating people at a very young age,
After all its possible to convince young minds about the existence of fictional gods , heaven and hell , reincarnation etc. to the degree they believe that rubbish for the rest of there lives, wth some even prepared to don a suicide vest and sacrifice themselves on the orders of a cleric/
Getting them to believe that inhaling smoke or vapour containing chemicals, by comparison should actually be a piece of cake, And even older people were convinced to wear masks when out walking alone or alone in their cars recently
Banned things become "forbidden fruit" which is always very tempting, even I can see that despite not being an "expert"
They might also like to consider the national addiction to sugar which will probably be responsible for more deaths than smoking anything, not to mention the scourge of diabetes and the associated debilitating side effects which will place more strain on the health care system than tobacco ever has

IMO, there is a HUGE amount of media attention on when these falangs do really <deleted>ty and stupid things (perhaps encouraging others), but there is NO media reports of their punishment, which would dissuade others, obviously!
I don't whether it's because the media simply is not interested in following up on these stories to tell us the conclusion, or if it's because there was no or very little punishment due to money being exchanged.
Its always the same whether the miscreants are Thai or foreign , big fuss about the incident but rarely any follow up concerning the punishments handed out

9:00pm Jacob Rees-Mogg's State of the Nation (Conservative party MP)
10:00pm Patrick Christys Tonight (no idea who he is or what is his political affiliation)
And you consider that line-up to be representative and less bias than the presenters on BBC News, Channel 4, ITV, CNN, etc?
bias or not I don't really care, certainly looks like a good evenings viewing, if you don't like it nobody is forcing you to watch

Considering the millions of tourists who come to Thailand each year the number of reports in the media about misbehaving idiots is percentage wise extremely small.
But the recent disproportionate media coverage given to these stories recently seems to have taken in the more gullible. It only goes to show how some people on here are easily manipulated

hardly anybody would come here at all Take away the seedier side of things and there is very little to attract people to this place that can't be found elsewhere. Its not particularly cheap any more either, and their reputation for fleecing tourists is well known, I reckon the TAT are well aware of this

I hope they find out who the illegal squatters were and arrange for them to get a bloody good hiding, ideally involving broken legs, Alternative accommodation can then be provided at a local jail or the immigration detention centre afterwards

Woman Arrested for Allegedly Organising Fake Weddings
in Hua Hin and Cha-Am News

The only strong message being sent out here is that AI has a long way to go before it can even produce a news article worth reading
This forum used to be called Thai Visa and was my goto source for decent visa information, Following the involvement of AI in most of the stories on here nowadays, I would very reluctant to base any visa related decisions on what I read on this website
