Oh <deleted>. I'm new to all this and just recently started leasing a condo in Pattaya. Only for 6 months and already paid two months deposit.
The landlord is Thai. Sounds like I should be prepared to lose it all for no reason? My GF who is also on the lease and is Thai paid the deposit on my behalf. Does that make any difference or are they indiscrimate with who they steal from?
never send your gf when its time to get the deposit back,
insist that its paid back when you are face to face, and with the owner, not any kind of secretary.
dont accept any other trickery,
and for practical purposes, use real shoes when you go to claim back deposit,
preferably those with steel reinforced toe

so why didn't the landlord inspect the room before giving back any deposit ?
even if the landlord and the tenant didn't get on, it's no reason to leave a place like that.
what ever gave you the idea that the land lady gave back deposit ?
on contrary its standard practice in thailand to steal the deposit,
and i suspect the tenant wanted to even the scale a bit

If there is intelligent life out there, it will never allow us off this rock. They will have seen what we did to this rock and they ain't gonna allow us to do it elsewhere.
I'd go with the "doomed as a species". Any species that destroys the environment that supports it is doomed, and we've been busily destroying our environment since they learned to make fire.
disagree, the west are doing well in this regard,
and i expect rest of the world to catch up the slack.
as a specie we are certainly not the worst,
that title belongs to the sea life forms that uses co2
as building materials for their shells.
while a good survival strategy short term,
long term they are depleting co2 until algae cant get enough of it,
and with out the algae, they will them self go extinct.
that is to say, they are self destructive and dont even know it.
in contrast we humans have the ability to dig up
these life forms and recycle the co2 they took with them into their grave.
we are the saviors of the planets life

The report claims to be signed by more than 11,000 scientists. The report went viral and was covered by pretty much every media house in the world.
There's at least ONE grown up reaction:
Here's a link to the actual report:
Here's the PDF that lists all signatories (pay special attention to the gynecologists and Micky Mouse at the Micky Mouse Institute for the Blind, as they have signed the report):
supplemental file S1 - signatory list - Ripple et al 10-14-19.pdf 1.06 MB · 1 download
a couple of things are clear tho, these activists truly think appeal to authority
is the way to go, hence the numerous 'surveys' of 97% scientists agree TM,
but more disturbingly its working too, i bet i saw a dozen on this forum
alone that keep referring to micky mouse statement as the 'end of debate'
cause micky mouse said so, and who am I to question micky mouse ??!

Hopefully in a few decades we'll be able to control the increasing of population through education, without resorting to barbaric means like wars or forced sterilisations, this ball is not yet too small for all of us.
Eventually nature will take care of it with an asteroid, volcanoes, pole shifting, you name it.
actually pole shifting isnt nearly as bad as one would expect,
it has happened several times since life became a thing on earth

its too stupid to be true.
once there was an experiment how much people would inflict pain on others on order,
this would be an experiment on a much larger scale if people
are willingly giving up heating, transportation, and food,
because 'scientists say' the gas of life can potentially increase world temperature
by 1 degree celsius, perhaps even as high as during medieval warm period
when the britts had their own wine yard.
oh, right, i forgot, there was no medieval warm period,
'temperature has never been this high for the past 2000 years !!!'
cue creative revisionism, compare ipcc v1990 vs v2010
now with no medieval warm period nor little ice age, buy NOW !

I beg to differ.
Mankind's biggest battle is the reptile brain mentality that makes people susceptible to whatever verbal excrement someone comes up with.
If I didn't know any better I'd say the climate panic hoax is nothing but a huge psychological experiment; someone is trying to find out how much BS you can shove down someone's throat - and charge them for the privilege - before they realise they are being played. Like a banjo.
that thought did cross my mind, either way it grudge me that i will be
included as one of the extinction cultists 50 years from now and cant
defend myself

I'm all for anything that makes it less cold.
I'm also for reducing if not eliminating waste and pollution, which can be achieved by reducing population.
yes, the plastic waste bothers me too, i think the western population & states are handling it well enough, but the lack of large trash cans and emptying of them here is an 'in the face' occurrence, it especially bothers me that its going into the oceans

Tell me if I'm wrong, but mankind's contribution to atmospheric carbon is well under 5%, the rest coming from natural sources. Sooooo, even if humans were capable of reducing our contribution to zero ( and there is absolutely no possibility of anywhere near that sort of reduction ) our efforts would have probably no effect at all.
I'm all for a cleaner, greener planet, as pollution is a terrible thing, and kills probably millions of other animals every year, but the idea that we can stop climate changing is just, IMO, barking.
The very best thing people can do to reduce pollution, atmospheric carbon etc is to have less children.
if you are all for a greener planet, then you are all for an increase in co2 recycling into atmosphere, it is a fact that biomass increases with increased co2,
and the result of our effort is already proven, - a greener planet.
if it add a degree warmer, then thats just the icing of the cake,
but nothing will take us back to the good ole cambrian era
with 3000 ppm co2 and 5 degree warmer when even the arctic
was in full bloom, the core of the planet has gotten old and cold

mangkot, minus the yellow stuff

the similarities between scandinavia & thailand is
that i can buy a bottle of coca cola in both countries,
the difference is that i cant see any plastic litter in scandinavia.
i think ultimately it comes down to the people being mindful of litter,
and the state provide incentives to be mindful of litter.
i note that the trash cans in thailand always spill over
and the wind & floods carries it away
long before the truck comes around and empty it.
there is also a cultural difference, in scandinavia the norm is to cook yourself,
while in thailand the norm is to buy cooked food and bring it home in a plastic bag.
not necessarily a bad idea, but for sure thailand has an incentive
to invent a bag that can keep a hot soup contained over a long time,
but yet still be decomposable

I'd be living on a large island off the coast of Thailand. Bring it on!
but besides co2 not driving temperature,
we wont be seeing an average 'of perhaps 26 degree c' either.
the planets natural state is actually without any ice at all,
with an average of just below 20 degree c, but the core of the earth has cooled,
todays average is 14.5 degree c, if and when we come out of the long ice age,
it will likely resume at around 18 degree c.
if you look at it, this cold period has been dragging on longer then is typical,
but before that finally happens, we will drop into another umpteen
ice ages within the long ice age that has now been dragging on for 25/1.65 million years, depending on severity.
on this large scale, there is no correlation at all between temperature & co2,
and over short time periods, there is no correlation either,
for some reason, you can only see a correlation with the milankovitch cycles
that pulses every 20k-100k years, the ice ages within the big ice age

No, the science is NOT settled. Not even NASA agrees with you (emphasis added):
Multiple studies published in peer-reviewed scientific journals1 show that 97 percent or more of actively publishing climate scientists agree*: Climate-warming trends over the past century are extremely likely due to human activities.
https://climate.nasa.gov/scientific-consensus/
Obviously, the science is not settled. Would you drink out of a can that some stranger handed to you and said it was "extremely likely" it wasn't anything toxic?
what im wondering is, if its extremely likely that co2 caused the rise in the 1980-2000 interval,
then what is the extremely likely cause for the rise in the 1910-1940 interval ?
i mean, its the same climb, so there has to be some extremely likely cause for the earlier rise too, right ?
or does climate just act like this without an extremely likely cause ?
