  1. perhaps they had a thought he might have accelerant in the bottle and had something to do with the fire starting?
  2. Simple fix. Rub surface with a wire brush or emery paper - lightly (seeing as you have very light surface rust) then paint with a 'Rust Converter' product. These products convert the rust -iron oxide into iron tannate. This chemical reaction makes the area that was rusted permanently impervious to reconversion back to iron oxide. You simply paint straight over that converted area and bingo problem gone. Some of the chemical converters are a one stop solution i.e. they are a paint in a range of colours but I have never used any of those types only the watery/milky looking types so I can't vouch for those. As to the effectiveness of these 'rust converters' they work perfectly every time as long as you disturb/remove, with a wire brush or emery paper the dusty surface of the rust so the solution can penetrate. For deeply pitted rust you must remove the flakey pitted areas down to the solid metal then apply the solution. These newer products don't require washing off but act as a primer to receive paint straight over them. If anyones going to use mild steel anywhere in their homes (railings, beams, pillars. roof trusses are often commonly made of non-galvanised steel and the paint on them form the factory is NOT rust proof). It's a good idea to lay the steel out on some sleepers, wet them with a hose allow the surface to oxidise then paint with Rust converter solution, you can then paint this which will prevent the steelworks from rusting.
  3. Yummo !! Theres a totally sick place not too far from my place Layan way that does it so dang good I have to eat two bowls lol ???? Is as good if not better than what you get in the north west of LOS. But I aint' tellin' where as its already totally popular!
  4. Austrian betting everything he had on not ever having to say; 'I'll be back' (best Arny impression inserted) lol ????
  5. There hasn't been a mass shooter events in my home nation for 30 years. Why? Because the government in the interest of public safety and oh what else was it ??? ... oh yes sanity .... banned all semi and automatic weapons and placed an amnesty on handing them in as well as hefty fines and jail for anyone who kept one. Hence zero, yes zero mass shootings since. I'm sure it will make some here mad as heck but as a reasonably sane person I am loathe to take any, I repeat any American advice about guns, gun death, and prevention.
  6. Yep W. I gotta have the www so I can watch the apocalypse unfold ... To our original poster; Nowhere is safe mate, nowhere. Go buy an island thousands of miles away for others, off main shipping routes, no air strip, and build yourself a survivalist fortress and you'll last a little while longer.
  7. The prevalence of voyeuristic recording of such tragedies instead of prompt action by bystanders seems to be 'normalised' around the world today. You see exceptions to this of course but they do seem few and far between these days. I've seen people standing on the road watching people die trapped in cars - some on fire, people drowning, men beating women, and grown strong men doing nothing except recording. Such an horrific and sad thing. I haven't gone into a Thai (or any other country) dance/night club since Tiger in Bangla years ago. I miss not going sometimes then I think of how there is zero hope if caught in a crowded club and a severe fire breaks out.
  8. Yep been getting some waves of late. A few decent session had too ????????????
  9. Good on ya for helping her. Pay it forward mate ????
  10. I'd been coming to LOS since 2009 (specifically came for medical dental tourism) and every year since. I live here now as a retiree with great international health insurance. I've had 4 colonoscopies in that time, dozens of dental procedures (some quite large and complex), medical check-ups etc, and was always charged very reasonably and given the very, very best of care compared to Australia. This 13 years of care always, by far, exceeded the care I have had in my home nation of Oz and experienced anywhere else in the world.
  11. I have an idea. Go to Australia (without eligible to claim this condition under any insurance) and see what such treatment would cost you there? Oh, and you'll get far les genteel, kind, sweet, and attentive care in Australia too by the way.
  12. I'm an Oz pensioner LOS emigre retiree (but don't quality for any Australian pension payment due to income and assets). The cessation of his pension is anyones guess. The good thing I would suggest to share with him is that as long as he has not suddenly become richer, or been hiding assets from Centrelink and Tax Department (through some inheritance or something) then he is still eligible for the Australian pension, and there is some glitch in the system that can be corrected, albeit it it might take weeks to do so. Like another said its probably a clerical error and a paper letter was sent to him, he did not respond in time allowed, and thus the pension was stopped. You can check all his 'profile details' with the operator and the status of his Centrelink and make sure all this info e.g addresses, contact numbers, notification set-up is correct. He can get phone updates and notifications sent to a Thai number so if he gets any mail he'll get a notification to go to his MyGov account online and check his mai. A regular 'online' checking - once a month at least - of his MyGov mailbox is advised. Like others have supplied you with he must call C'link. Id suggest he do that at 8 a.m. Australian eastern time!!!! The phone queues for Centrelink get very busy so if ya call at that time you'll hopefully get to talk to someone in maybe as quickly as 5 minutes, but, expect to wait maybe 30 (it all depends on the traffic to that specific international enquiry number on the day). I spoke with them about 4 months back at that 8 a.m. time. I got an operator within about 7 minutes which is good speed for Centrelink. 001 800 611 4136 **** THIS NUMBER IS FREE - THE NUMBER GIVEN WITH A 3 IN FRONT OF IT IS NOT FREE - YOU WILL BE CHARGED INTERNATIONAL CALL RATES FOR THAT 3 PREFIX NUMBER! Make sure your phone is well charged, a good quality phone not a Cheap Charlie one as reception and clarity on this call are vital! Use good ear buds so you hear and are heard clearly. Have a piece of paper to record case #, operators name, and any salient points or instructions offered by C'Link. Take screen shots of all MyGov & Centrelink online account pages visited so you have a definitive record of everything that happens during that call. A mid week call is best not a Mondays or a Fridays! You or someone else cannot speak on behalf of the man. Centrelink will not share anything with a third party unless authorised to do so by the Centrelink recipient (forms, notarisation must be exchanged first for this to be allowed). He'll need to quote his CRN. May need to key in any Phone Pin he has (if he has one?) Setting up 'Phone Voice ID' would be a good idea (if he hasn't done that). The C'link operator can help with this. If he has a 'MyGov account' then log-in prior to the call to Centrelink would be good to do to (1) check his mailbox (2) be able to move to, and through his Centrelink account webpages if directed by the Centrelink operator. Your pal has been receiving the pension as an overseas residing Australian for many years (or so I gather from your sharing of his circumstances) so there is no issue or requirement for him to periodically reside in Australia (i.e. hold an Australian address as a resident at that address). This idea, feature of (returning/residing for a significant portion of the calendar year to Australia) ONLY APPLIES to Australians in the first 2 years of receiving their pension. After that 2 years expires an Aussie can leave Australia permanently and still receive their full pension (excluding the Medicare portion) until death OR if their income exceeds the allowed amount, whichever comes first, at which time, their pension would be adjusted downwards accordingly.
  13. How terrible ... RIP innocent little one ????????????????
  14. Every city in LOS is wonderful. Why? Cause I can get a cold beer cheap AND I get called 'hansum man' everywhere I go .... = paradise lol ????
  15. I am not criticising you because I don't know the nuances of the relational styles in your business (between you and staff, and staff and other staff, and staff and the types of customers you have). I would offer that happy and content employees don't tend to leave as readily as you describe yours are doing. Sometimes this can be because work conditions are harsh e.g. climate, noise, back-breaking, boring, overly controlled, threatening and or punitive, no incentive e.g. upward. mobility in organisation. I remember somewhere in our organisation psych training years ago an author and organisational structure expert named Demming [spelling?]) saying that if a business is failing or failing to retain staff its always managements fault. He was pretty revolutionary and had a lot of really sound things to say about about organisational structures and their impact on wellness and profit. If you have the energy maybe get an organisational psychologist (a senior student, or provisional psych from a uni would be ok and cheaper too) to come and observe and report their findings to you. The money you are loosing from training and the loosing, then retraining new staff is a huge drain on profits and viability. I don't need to tell you that eventually such staff turnaround can easily erode profits and crush a business.
  16. I'm curious as to you having to sit a written exam? I'd consider going to other Transport offices and seeing what they say. I can understand, if you hailed from a nation that is known as producing poor drivers and an equally poor driver ed/teaching system, you being told you need to sit for a written exam, but with a full English license???! If you are very young this might have something to do with it as I was told by one of the senior manager-fellas at Phuket transport they often direct falang youngsters to the ed and test streams as well as those known to drive very poorly in their home nations. I have no way to verify if this is Transport department fact. I was an emigre from Australia to LOS. with 46 year driving experience with multiple types of driving licenses, we also drive on the left. I never 'renewed' an expired Thai license so maybe as you wonder in your post, yours being expired is the simple reason for you needing to sit for an exam ... and perhaps its a newish edict for falang drivers? Maybe its just cause you look shifty lol ???????????????? The Honda driving schools are good I hear, and as far as I can remember being told by a few folks on the island they help with mock exams questions so you have a good feel for the actual exam questions on the day. I got my new (first time 2 year) Thai license in early 2019 (as a retiree) and I didn't have to sit for any written exam. But, this was at Phuket offices, and as we all know, colloquial nuances make for colourful, and disparate experiences through any government department here. For me a reflex and eye test, and accompanying current Australian license, as well as my International Drivers Permit for my first 2 year license. My 5 year renewal of that 2 year license (not expired but coming due to expire) was simple as pie also and a matter of paperwork reflex and eye exam (same as for my 2 year car, truck (articulated vehicles) , and motocy license). Good luck ????
  17. I vote the responses to this post as candidates for; 'The most bizarre and pedantic of the month' hahahaha ????????????????
  18. To paraphrase a now deceased Vietnamese monk; 'If you carry poo around with you everywhere you go all you will see, smell, and know, will be tainted by the stench of poo.' I live here and I love it. But hey what would I know I have severe TBI frontal lobe damage lol ????
  19. Im an Aussie emigre and I felt he same about that flying kangaroo airline. Overpriced, indifferent rude and poor customer care. ME3 all the way!
  20. AAwWWww ... poor didums. Taking your toys and going home we see. What a great opportunity for the US to pull its head out and invite China to create new space and hopefully worldly cooperation ... but maybe that's about as likely as large bovines flying (the head out of the dark nether regions I mean)
  21. No stapling letters to children (like they feelingless soulless inanimate objects) might be a good place to start building a decent education system
  22. Vernice Beach No1 what a f...ing joke haha ????????????????????????
