  1. I once lent a hotel receptionist a couple of English conversation textbooks. When I needed them back a couple of weeks later I tried to tease her in a friendly way about not ever looking at them.

I said what I thought was "hen" (look) "kuay" (ever) "mai" (not)?

She ran away and everybody at the front desk burst out laughing.

I think I actually said something like "Do you want to see my penis?"

  2. I have also had difficulty finding a simple barber shop where I can get a reliable 15 minute haircut. It's not the money, I just don't want the whole 90 minute shampoo/blow dry etc. etc. experience every two or three weeks. My experience has been that you really DON"T get what you pay for when it comes to haircuts. A good barber can do a great job.

You might want to try the shop on Thonglor about 100 meters in from Sukumvit on the BTS side. The barber closest to the window has many years experience and seems to understand Farang hair. He is good at copying the last haircut I had anyway.

  3. www.atninter.com

Just booked today at the lowest price I found in Bangkok for EVA evergreen deluxe to SF. I checked with EVA who said they were the prime agent and no problems with them. However the guy I talked to on the phone was so unpleasant I briefly considered foregoing the 5000 baht savings.

  4. GNC Supplement shops are located in all major malls and they carry flax seed oil capsules and other imported products of reasonable quality. The price is always about twice that of the USA. I was unable to find flax seed oil in liquid form in Thailand. I use flax seed oil to treat post-lasik dry eye.

  5. "www.surgicaleyes.com is a good website to let you know that surgery should not be taken lightly. It can also provide a biased view though. 99.9% of patients enjoy LASIK, are glad that they did it, and would do it again."

This person simply made up the above statistic. I wonder why? I have found that sometimes people who have had successful Lasik surgery have a strong need to validate their decision.

If you are considering Lasik, spend a little time on the internet to find studies which acurately reveal the percentage of satisfied Lasik patients and use the real statistics from real studies to help you make your decision. Think about what it might mean to be unhappy with your eyesight for the rest of your life.

  6. I have one singular purpose in posting once again on this topic and that is to try to save someone out there who is thinking about Lasik surgery from the deep discomfort I have suffered over the last four months. The best doctor and the latest equipment may reduce your risk of complications, however, until you actually read a few of the thousands of posts at the forum of www.surgicaleyes.com you simply can't understand what you are risking or properly determine the risk! I am not going to tell my story or make the case against Lasik. All it would take is for you to spend a half an hour at www.surgicaleyes.com. In my opinion anyone who decides to have Lasik after reading this post and without first exploring www.surgicaleyes.com must, for some reason, not want to fully understand the extremely serious decision they are in the process of making.

  7. Anyone considering Lasik anywhere should take a long hard look at the forum at www.surgicaleyes.com I sure wish I had before I had the surgery. This site is full of the stories of clearly intelligent people, most of whom chose the best doctor they could find using the latest technology, who had their eyes and lives ruined by Lasik. It is virtually impossible to understand the risk you are taking prior to the surgery. It is certainly true that MOST people do not have serious side effects. I gambled and lost and I hate to see it happen to anyone else. www.surgicaleyes.com!

  8. I had Lasik at Bumrungrad 4 weeks ago. My vision is really very good, however my eyes are extremely dry and I have had daily headaches. I'm pretty concerned that this might be something I will have to deal with long-term.

My experience at Bumrungrad was unpleasant, but I expected it would be. Thai doctors really have little idea of patient-centered care, but I figured that the mechanics of the surgery would be properly performed and I have no reason to doubt that that was not so.

The recovery from the Lasik has been slower than I would like and I often wonder if I made a bad decision. At this point I would not do it again. On the other hand, if the dry eye problem resolves, I will be very happy.

It appears that you understand the risks involved. I agree that a careful read of www.lasikdisaster.com prior to your ultimate decision is a good idea.

    Good luck!

  9. Anotai Restaurant, off the Soi adjacent to Rama 9 Hospital, is about as fine a restaurant as I've ever eaten at and it also happens to be vegetarian.  Everything about it is quality.  Both Thai and farang food are served.  The best salads and pasta in Thailand!  I generally spend about 250 baht per person.  I have no interest here other than sharing a wonderful experience.  Not sure of how to provide better directions, but just plug it into a search engine and you should be able to figure it out.
