  1. I live in Bangkok and have been thinking the best way of getting to Pattya during the week would be to take the train to the airport and then the Bell Travel Service bus.

I always buy two seets when I take the bus from Ekamai to avoid the possibility of an unpleasant seat mate.

Anybody know if the Bell buses are full these days? Should I book and pay for two seats or are they running empty anyway and it would be a waste of 200 baht?

    Thanks!

  2. I got in a taxi at immigration the other day and he took off without starting the meter, so I was suspicious from the git go. Turned it right on when I pointed it out, so maybe he forgot.

I told him I was going to Morchit BTS and he asked me if I wanted to take the "highway" and prepared to turn right instead of left to Chang Wattana and Vibhivadi Rangsit Road as he pulled out of the immigration driveway.

I insisted he take Vibhivadi Rangsit since I had no idea if the highway thing was a scam or if there actually is a faster way to get to the BTS by the "highway"?

Just curious if its on the up and up or not?

  3. My bank manager has several stamps that she is happy place next to my signature. One is a Garuda. Looks quite official, don't know what they mean. Anyway I've used these stamps for many USA documents which required notarization including insurance, US government stuff and legal stuff with never a problem and never a charge from the bank.

  4. I went back today to give it another try. They are offering two kinds of injera; imported from Ethiopia and made here in Bangkok. The Ethiopian injera was great sour and soft. The owner said they couldn't get the fermentation right here but were working on mixing in some rice flour to get it to ferment properly.

Give it a try. They need the business and I want to see them make it!

If you have any doubt about what to order or how to eat it, they speak perfect English and couldn't be friendlier.

I always order a vegetarian platter which is a variety of vegetable dishes on top of the injera. Its 200 baht and is enough for two people.

  5. Yeah, the waiter at Habeesha, who might have been the owner, said that they had to have a connection with Ethiopean Airline to get the injera. It wasn't clear to me if he meant the flour or the actual injera. That was the weakness in the meal, as it seemed a bit stale. I was hoping it was because it was the end of the day.

I mentioned how much I enjoyed eating in Little Ethiopea in Los Angeles and he wistfully remarked how good the injera is there.

  6. Well, it's no Abyssinia (and Abyssinia wasn't all that great...) but at long last an Ethiopean restaurnat has opened. It's called Habeesha and it's on Nana roughly opposite where Abyssinia was. If you are facing the entrance to Bumrangrad on Nana go to your right and its in the lobby of a hotel. There is a big sign saying Ethiopean Restaurant.

The atmosphere is not so good and the food was only so-so when I visited. (I was there at closing time.) BUT it completely fulfilled my need for Ethiopean food. They do have injera, of course, and all that goes with it.

  7. I made a special trip to Rimping on that long awaited Sunday Eve but left broken hearted and cookieless for the shelves were bare. I vowed then and there never again to trust a promise of cookies and I'm a better but sadder man for it.

  8. For one brief shining moment in history Butter is Better sold a great chocolate chip cookie, then there was confusion and a series of mistatements regarding the availability of the delicious cookie at Rimping, which left me sad and confused, and then finally a deliberate downgrade to a lesser cookie followed by explanations of cost and demand which fell upon deaf and disinterested ears......

That cookieman betrayed me, but I guess I wish him well in his new location.
