  1. I'm having a problem with recurring canaliculitis due to a punctal plug that I'm having difficulty removing.

Anybody have a suggestion for a specific eye doctor they have had a good experience with. I'm not looking for a clinic like Rutnin, but a recommendation for a good doctor. Somebody capable of and interested in doing things like discussing the pros and cons of treatment options with their patient. Not really the Thai style, in my experience.

  2. Had one installed at Honda shop in Chiang Mai. Think they used beeper for truck backup. Wrapped tape around it to lower volume. They understood exactly what I wanted and why. Cost about 400 baht installed. It fit under dash speedomoter area.

Actually trucks use beeper light bulbs, don't they..... Well they knew exactly where to go for the beeper and said they had done it several times before.....

  3. I have the same plan and called and stopped by True to ask the same question. There might be some way to do that simple thing, but nobody could tell me how. On the other hand its alwyays the same bill with no extta charges for data or calls or sms so I guess its not worth worrying about.

  5. Good suggestions. Thanks, I'm a regular at both those places. Happy Cow is a great resource also.

Anyonen like Herwins Vegan Cafe? Sometimes little oily for my taste, but his heart is sure in the right place!

  6. Every year or so I like to start a thread about vegetarian food in Bangkok. It dies quickly, but sometimes I learn about a new place.....

My favorite curry on rice place is in the Central Pinklao food court; very good quality brown rice, a good variety of dishes prepared with minimal oil, nice presentation on the plate, and regular changes of the dishes according to the season and what vegetables are available. Somebody involved there cares about food and quality! No place I know of comes close, but I hope someone will tell me differently. MBK, Amarin Plaza, Ploenchit Center food court veggie rad khao places are so-so compared to this one.

I think the enchiladas at Sunrise Taco made with corn and potatoe are very good, especially with the great salsa bar.

  7. Huay Kaew Residence: When I first moved to Chiang Mai I stayed there for a month. Dealing with the staff and management made me despair for the fate of the world. Disturbingly bad, with no commitment or even a basic nod to the simple values of life like service and integrity. Other than that it was fine.

  8. St. Louis Hospital in Bangkok does it also. Wierd isn't it. The administrators must all have gone to the same business management seminar a couple of years ago. I think its repulsive for hospitals to engage this behavior given the amount of money that may be involved and the physical and emotional trauma the person paying may have endured. Shame on them!

  9. Thanks for the advice. I know where the land transport office is. Motorcycle taxi guys on my corner said that's where they go and don't use an agent. That was at the limit of my Thai so I thought I would ask here. If I get a Thai speaker to ask them I'm sure it will get sorted.

I know there must be one around here, just can't find it.....

A ride all the way down Sukumvit or Phayatai on a scooter will be unpleasant.

  10. I have a Honda Wave in Bangkok, registered in Chiang Mai in 2005. I guess I need to get it inspected this year when I do the registration. I live close to Central Chidlom. Anyone know the closest place I can do it? Do I have ride it to the Motor Vehicle Office on Sukumvit 81 or so or is there a shop that can do it? Will I need to change the registration?

    Thanks for your help!

  11. The cooler at JUSMAG was stocked a year ago with Dr. Peppter and Corona (Last time I was there). American prices, I think the 15 baht for the Pepper and 40 for the beer, but I might be mistaken......

    Just google JUSMAG Bangkok

Now, as to the JUSMAG Canteen - everyone is welcome to come over and

visit the compound if you are in Bangkok - no secrets here. Plenty of

US English spoken here. All you need to do is swap your US passport or

military ID Card at the gate for a badge and in you come. The canteen

boasts a fair menu and serves grub from 0600 - 1500 Mon - Fri. There

is also a small after hours club adjacent to the canteen called the

Teak Room which has soda, beer and chips for sale with pool tables,

TV, a library and small bar with limited selections beyond beer. Not

sure of the hours but it's not too late and is generally open around

1700 when I leave the compound. OH! Yes, the canteen does SOS and

it's a pretty fair breakfast for sure. Very popular with our visitors

and members of the retired community who come in for breakfast quite

    often.

Also, in the JUSMAG compound is a small dental clinic for active duty,

post office, barber shop and a tailor shop. Pretty much self

    contained compound.

    Regards,

    Jim

  12. There's also a guy who sells Vietnamese coffee for 99 baht a bag. He advertises on craigslist. His name is Nick and you can contact him at 084664-0401. Nick lives in Ladprao but comes to Sukhumvit fairly often.

I've seen those ridiculous ads. The seller seems unwilling/unable/incapable of providing the most basic pricing information in his advertising. How much coffee is in a bag? Who knows? Who cares!
