Oh please get off your high horse and evaluate the risk here, it's minimal.

Are you trying to say you have never broken any rules here in Thailand?

If you lived here more than a month you'll know that rules are broken all the time, especially by the locals.

And I guess you can't handle the reality that despite Thailand being a fantastic country to live in, and not a third world country by any means, it still falls short of Western standards in many things, such as food standards, corruption, road safety, etc?

Or are you going to call me a racist now for pointing that out?

Why don’t you just eat healthy, non of this processed stuff.

that's news to me--maybe it has always been this way, but most friends i know who kept the OA did not have to deposit funds--had you already used two years or one on the OA?

Almost 2 years (22 months). They gave me the form to go back after 3 months to show I still had over 800k remaining in the bank. I think this is the point of this thread. It doesn’t seem right that an O and O-A visa holder should be trsated differently with regard to health insurance. But, I see your pount on the initial 2 years.

its my understanding that once you convert to the O, you no longer have to have the insurance--if you still did, then why convert?

I tried to convert my O-A to an O 2 weeks ago but was told by immigration and 4 agents that it was not possible unless I left the country and re-entered. So, not being able to leave and re-enter, I extended my expired O-A for 12 months (extension of stay). This was along with the 800k plus HI.

it's nonsense the idea of "discrimination"--non-O holders must have on deposit here 800,000 baht or prove 65,000 baht being transferred monthly--OA holders do NOT have this requirement--yes, they prove income in their home countries, but those funds may remain there and there is no check if the funds used, really do belong to the applicant.  So, if a non-O holder needs money for health care, he/she already has it in the bank or being transferred each and every month.

Yes, not perfect, but a key distinction between the two.

True Sammy, but when you extend your stay in Thailand based on your expiring  O-A. then the financial requirements are having the 800,000 in the bank (same as O visa holders plus HI.

  5. I didn’t ride the CB500X but I have spoken with a few mates who have. Their main comment was that you would very soon be ready to upgrade to something else.

jumping straight into the NC750X was a good choice for me. Great in the twisties and awesome around town.

weight is not so much of an issue once you get used to the real motorbike feel, i.e. feet resting on pegs and a different stance.

However, you might want to get a run around for town errands etc. and keep the NC for touring and weekend runs.

The DCT makesit ridiculously easy to ride.

Best of luck with whatever you decide

Why, I was planning to live full-time so I wanted a decent size. I figured I could never live full-time in a studio

Sorry to hear about your predicament mate. I agree that 6 years ago at a 30 baht exchange rate it was a good time to buy. I wish I had taken the plunge. As you say, if you sell it now at a lower price, you wouldn’t lose much if you change it back into AUD$
But as an aside, I would give it some time for the world to settle down. Nothing worse than selling something, only to regret it later.

Anyway, best of luck whatever you decide.

    Pros.

Locals will not have something to pee against.

Nowhere to sling the hammock for the night.

No coconuts to fall on your head.

    Nothing to sleep against.

Nowhere to hang your clothes to dry.

The rats and squirrels are wondering what the heck is happening to their homes.

    Cons.

    Err.......hmmmm

  8. Are you really not  noticing world opinion changing on the wearing of masks. Your ignorance is astounding. Message again in 3 months when mandatory wearing of masks will be required in most countries.

    Watch this space.....

Actually I said this in reply to another of your posts a month or so ago. A lot of decision reversals by so called experts since then Wake up and stop sprouting total BS.

Go to Pattaya and see how almost no one wears masks and not to mention social distancing, what is the real truth? no one really knows, but as it is, its suits me fine...

Rubbish. Strict controls are in place in Pattaya once you enter any shop or mall. Temp taken, scan with phone, for those who are not ignorant enough to to this, hand gel etc. screens up at counters. There is no law as yet in Thailand that enforces you to wear a mask outdoors.

That's funny. I always thought it was Soi Chaiyapoom but must just be local nickname. You could have always added more of a description like -  the sleaziest street in the whole of Pattaya.

Lol. Yes that’s what I thought so I looked on Google maps and got a different name. ????
