  1. I mentioned mimicry in my last post, it deals with mimicking another species. Batesian refers to a non-poisonous or non-venomous (poison is ingested, venom is injected... Biology pet-peeve >_<) If you simply kill every snake that comes across your path, you may be killing species that are helpful to your household.

Now I understand that you have children and perhaps pets, and I am not trying to scold you. But if it's not a dire situation, perhaps in the future covering it with a bucket and calling a local, as suggested, is a better practice. At the very least the meat won't go to waste! :)

  2. I would also like to back up John. I didn't take his course, but he and his wife bring their students to REAL schools with REAL students. You get a much more realistic feel for what it is like to teach at a school with a bunch of kids (the number one market for ESL teachers in Thailand). You get a taste for it while having a safety net so to speak, rather than what I and many others experienced, being thrown to the wolves.

I know this because my classroom was one of the classrooms John's student's taught in, so I can vouch for the real experience and professionalism of John's course.

  3. 15. Realize that Thai Dating sites are full of beautiful wholesome, honest women who only want genuine love from someone far older, uglier, and fatter than themselves. To ensure a good life together help out a Nigerian prince transfer money so that you can have $20million USD for a sizable 'sin sod' and be able to not only pay for your family's sick buffalo, but the entire village.

  4. OK. That's what is says in the car's blurb, that's all:) Certainly the engine is capable of it. Dyno sheets would be nice too! Sleepers are much nicer in my opinion. Massive cheaply made body kits and puny 1.6ers just don't do it for me - which is what most of the riced cars are like here.

I know where you got the 1000hp from, sorry if I sounded like a dick who didn't believe you :)

  5. My wife (Thai) and I ran ours out of our house. We both tutored English. We would tutor after school and on Saturdays. If you work at a school is is easy to acquire students, especially if it's a government school. The difficult part is ensuring a quality session for all involved. I believe we tutored 50+ students weekly. We rented a 4 story town house within walking distance to our work, turned the first floor into a lobby for parents and students, 2 floors into classrooms, and lived on another floor. It worked out well and we made 40-50k extra month, but the amount of time you need to put into this is extensive. Also you need to have a good reputation so that word of mouth brings you more students. My wife was renowned and had to pick and choose which grades she would tutor since she literally had dozens of parents begging her to open up new sessions.

In the North, no body really cares, and if you tutor at a government school, the majority of parents are going to be police and other government workers, so you will be fine.

  6. The price is so high due to the top secret body kit... If it's even a real one...

not to mention the 1000 HP engine! Wonder how driveable it would be in BKK.

Ehhh, it has a single turbo conversion and the engine does look done up, but I don't see any pictures of a dyno sheet. On the internet my mustang can be a 1000rwhp car too, you just cant look at my dyno sheets >_<

Also, in my experience, people who cover their car in CF interior parts, tons of useless gauges, and an over the top body kit rarely put that level of detail into decent engine internals and power making modifications...

But it could be 1000hp, the engine is at least capable of it.

  7. I did TEFL international in Phuket.

Bare bones, showed that we could survive a classroom... of people 16+ who WANTED to be there, not 30+ kids who only wanted to play.

It was invaluable when I first started, after a year I realized how many better programs there were out there.

  8. But you have to look really hard. I searched for a place with a kitchen as well and after 5 days I gave up.

I'm very very near you and have a kitchen. But it's ... no stoves allowed! Found it via TV classifieds. Currently hot as hel_l, costs me 50b just to have the aircon on for 4 hours in the afternoon.

Mmm.. this is interesting...a place with kitchen at Nimm. Can you share with us how much you pay for your apartment? (studio?)

But a kitchen with no stoves? Euhm...so it is more of a pantry?

If you know Thai or have someone to translate it's easier to find a place. Really you just have to be able distinguish the words sale or rent. Then if you can speak it fairly well you can call up and rent. My wife and I simple drove around the area we wanted and even asked locals who were out walking.

I will ask my Thai teacher to write "rent" in Thai so I can search for the same Thai signs in the streets.

    rent - เช่า

    House for rent - บ้านเช่า

I use thai-language to help with my reading and writing >_< Because compared to my speaking, they're grade levels apart....

  9. I can not count how many times I have seen a heap of spirit houses dumped along the side of a highway and garbage along side. This tells me that people have no respect for their society, culture or religion. :)

They justify this by saying it is a special place to leave used spirit houses. My wife asked me to do the same to ours, leaving it on a heap near Hang Dong. But I gave it away instead to someone who really could use it!

Maybe you don't understand why the spirit houses are allegedly 'dumped'.

One of the main reasons why you might see a single spirit house by the road is because someone they loved was killed there by a car accident.

Another reason is too bless a certain area or maybe a tree.

Another reason is, because they moved, they have taken their spirit house to be left by the side of the road for security...

I'm NOT talking one I'm talking 6 to 20 with garbage along side of the road. That is total disrespect for a religion, culture and society. There is noway anybody can defend this or explain it away.

The ones that are leaning over and broken correct? That's what I immediately thought of when you mentioned it.

I heave seen both, but your post definitely brought the image of all those carelessly thrown, broken, smashed and mixed with garbage spirit houses.

  10. I was at a NASA event (National Auto Sport Association) even this past weekend. I was watching miatas DESTROY 944's and other cars in it's class all day long. They only had to blip the brakes while other cars really had to lay in on them. NA they might not be hitting 130-150mph quite so easily, but a 1.8 with a decent turbo kit will.

  11. I moved back in Oct 2008. But I moved back to get a second degree and my wife wants her Masters to be from the US. I am also the only child.

However, I am rounding down this degree and the wife will start soon and eventually we will be back in Thailand. We simple returned the the US to be able to earn more while living in the country we love

  12. Doesn't Thailand now have their own standards and program for homeschooling as Scott has said? I know that foreigners can us the curriculum from their home country, not sure about full or half blooded Thai children of foreign or mixed parents.

  13. I paid $300 usd for an unfurnished 4 story town house that had aircons. So I know you can find a nice furnished apartment for 200.

But you have to look really hard. I searched for a place with a kitchen as well and after 5 days I gave up.

Maybe with help of an real estate agency, but I didn't come far by asking and driving around by myself.
