  1. I live in Bangkok in Q condo and lots of short trips (at least three times a month) to Pattaya. I started liking Pattaya, specially after the Chinese tour buses are gone.  Recently bought a one-bedroom condo for week end trips. Seriously thinking of  buying a two bed room condo (Grand Solaire) in the next few years. Can drive to Sttahip in 30-min for a quite beach.

without tourism dollars they are a p poor nation...prior to the millions that started coming in the early 2000s, Thais rarely had a car, telephone or even a TV...theoe days are around the corner very soon again

Except Western countries whose economic foundations were laid on colonization and looting its colonies (e.g. UK has looted 40 trillion from India), and chattel slavery, most countries were poor. China, India, Singapore, Malaysia all have escaped poverty and have plenty of cars and TVs. They did not use tourism as a source for their incomes. Thailand should slowly reduce its GDP from tourism and diversify like Malaysia or China. And before colonization, every country was poor in today's standard. It is not the tourism but science and technology, and its adoptions that matter. 21st century will be Asian century.

Because all posters on here achieved nothing apart from getting married to a Thai and live on the money

    they get send from overseas.

Marry to a Thai and get a marriage visa to brag about how they are contributing to the Thai economy. Everybody needs something to brag about otherwise life becomes empty and meaningless.

please give locations! i know of people in bkk that are positive and im not seeing verification in the media. Why? Hiding real stats much? Hope the government gets sick....

USA and Europe are out of control. They are hiding data in a massive scale. Thailand is learning from them how to hide data.

    I call fake news.

It is only a fake news if it does not suit one's agenda. The entire Western countries, entire Euro zone, UK and USA have botched up containment efforts and hundred of thousand people are infected. They are hiding the fact by not testing all contacts and even not testing everybody from high risk regions. Shame to the them.

Why ? Same same here Thailand only have 40 cases of corona

53 as of today. But the real shame is on Western countries who are unable to contain it. USA, UK, and the entire Europe is out control. WHO declares pandemic. All markets are tanking. World wide recession is eminent. What a shame to wealthy nations who always botched all earlier pandemics also. As if they don't learn from the past. Who are running these countries? As if truck drivers, brick layers, and plumbers are at the helm of controlling the spread in the Western countries.

Japan is known not to be testing in adequate numbers.

Except Taiwan, no country is testing in adequate numbers unless they develop some symptoms, specially high fever. Europe and America are the worst and that's why it's spreading fast there. They could have contained it as they 10,000 miles away but again they botched it up just like all prior incidents of epidemics. They test only when people have high fever and all others high risk people are left to heal using their immune system. That way it is better financially and lower reported cases.

    Both countries speak the truth.
You just have to know that Thailand does not have the means or more simply does not want to test potential patients.
No test = no sick ...
    It's as simple as that.

All countries doing the same. They don't tests all potential suspects. Some recover due to their stronger immune system. When somebody shows high fever for days, they test them.

Have the lackluster Thai government been shamed into actually doing something because of the virility of posters on Thai Visa I  wonder???

Shame to the European and American governments for absolutely botching up this issue as irresponsible and causing world wide spread. Thailand is doing an incredible job of containing it, along with India. WHO is going to reward them after the issue is settled. And they do deserve it.

It appears the baht is still remaining strong.

If the World wide economy goes in recession, Baht will remain the same as it is now or weaken marginally. Sure no additional money will be added to the foreign exchange reserve but the demand for foreign currency will also be low. Foreign Exchange Reserves in Thailand decreased to 229456.0500 USD Million in February from 230309.48 USD Million in January of 2020, still enough to continue for 6-months with out adversely affecting Baht.

I fly often on Bangkok air Samui to bkk and back with my Thai drivers licence so far no issues and have been not bringing my passport at all for domestic travels.  This I believed was one of the main perks of having a Thai drivers license being able to fly and get hotels without a Passport.

A valid Thai driver's license can be bought for 3K BHT without any documents. If they are allowing travel on that, shame on them. Even in the US they won't allow to fly after Sep, 2020 with a driver's license unless the license is a Real ID driver's license that requires multiple documents to prove one's real ID.

If the answer is "need work visa", then my next question is: how can I get a work visa for this?

I think it is similar to organizing a seminar or or workshop. Still be very careful without any permission. They had previously busted a Malaysian team for doing that. You need to go to university and ask a professor or to gather information. This can be done easily without any lawyers inputs or expenses. Based on that information, you can hire a lawyer to get permissions/work permit etc.

hai infection numbers are way way higher than being reported.

Same with every country I think. I don't believe in the numbers reported by any countries, including European countries and America. Look at the numbers reported by Vietnam and Cambodia, and Canada, and New Zealand. This is a world wide pandemic. And the numbers are very high. Most patients don't get tested and recover with their own immunity system. It is only when they have high fevers and hospitalized, they are tested. Somebody with a one day high fever and then not going to hospital and the showing low fever and or no fever becuase of their immune system took care of it the next day is not going to be tested or reported.

  14. Based on all the posts here, I decided to buy the condo in my 19-year old former Poseidon Model's name who just gave birth to my first child at my age of 59. I was confirmed the baby's father earlier by a pre-natal DNA test and subsequently confirmed again after the birth. So, this is my first gift to her. I already had a pact with her when she became pregnant with my seeds. She has to refrain getting another men's seeds for five years and after that she is free to leave me or do whatever with her life. In five years, I will make her a wealthy girl with at at least an asset of 30 million, one third of my total asset. But I encouraged her to go finish her school (she has graduated 9th class) but it is up to her if she wants to do it or not.

small avalanche... as I was led to believe, ‘falang’ actually comes from the history of French Indo China when the French (falang set?) colonised the region of SE Asia?. Since then, all white visitors are so named? Maybe this is too simplistic but it sounds reasonable? Of course, Thailand doesn’t recognise ANY colonisation, for whatever reason (Japanese in WWII?).

I think the word Firangee was borrowed from Persian formed as a parallel of the Arabic word  meaning the French or Franks (ancestors of the French people) which emerged during the medieval interactions between the Arabs and Arabic-speaking Muslims and the European Christians (Crusaders), who were almost all from France or the Frankish Kingdom. Although the word is usually translated as “foreigner,” it actually refers to European or white people.

It depends upon what you mean by irregular.

I don't know exactly what he (my friend) meant. He seems to be familiar with general Thailand/Malaysia/Singapore retirement requirements more than me. He said he was doing research for the last 6-months. He has also visited Thailand numerous times as a tourist. His daughter lives in Singapore and he is now reluctant to travel to Singapore now as it is in the high risk country for Covid-19. I gave him the URL of this forum and told him to post as much details as possible for knowledgeable people in this forum to give some solid advice. He was interested in buying an Elite Visa (like me) and I asked him to explore retirement options as it is a few thousand dollar cheaper than Elite if one puts 800K BHT in a bank for perpetuity. Then he started babbling about bringing money to Thailand and I quite did not understand what he meant. I told him sure he had to bring money to live in Thailand. He said he would post in the forum tomorrow as it was getting late at night for him in the USA.

This is not up to employers to do - it is up to the government of Thailand to enforce a travel ban if one is required

Government should never do blanket travel ban. It is up to individual company to impose such bans. Thailand  is doing great job in containing the virus unlike US, Italy, and SK. Kudos to Thai administration for their bold actions.

Pretty rash decision. Maybe for him it makes sense, however his children could have really benefited from dual citizenship and a US passport in their future.

If his children are smart cookies, they really don't need US citizenship to start with. They can always acquire US citizenship later in life. More than 100 publicly listed US companies, including Microsoft, Google, IBM, Citi Bank, Pepsi, etc.  are headed by first generation Indian Americans - both male and females. Thousands and thousand doctors, engineers, lawyers, accountants, authors, journalists, etc. are first generation Indian-Americans so much so that  average income of Indian Americans is twice the average income European Americans. First generation Indian-Americans have proved that there is no need for US citizenship to start with, or school where English is taught by native speakers, or get an education in a Western country to succeed in life.

I have four passports (US, Trinidad & Tobago, Antigua and Barbuda, and Spain). I have applied for a 10-year Indian tourist visa and I have a 20-year Thailand Elite Visa. I am a first generation Trinbagonians-American (hard to pronounce :)) and I have amassed three millions in USD in my lifetime. So it is not where you're born with and the passport you're entitled to due to your birth to succeed in life. Every thing is possible if one wants to achieve it.

The Thai Government should be declared unfit to lead that country if it allows Chinese to visit

Thailand and should be accountable if peoples catch this deadly virus.

Locals have already caught. Why should not healthy Chinese be allowed? Yes, I understand that a healthy Chinese may be incubating a virus. In the same token any body can be incubating virus. What is the guarantee that a non-Chinese did not catch from another person coming from a high risk country. I salute the excellent efforts Thai government is putting to contain the virus and that's ll we can expect. Look what happened to Korea and Italy? They even could not contain it.

The implications are quite negative with the analogy that comes to mind that of a parent prostituting his/her children.

Thailand relies on temperature scans as its first line of screening. However, the scans have proven  worthless. This is the consensus of the experts who controlled MERS and SARS and it is why  Israel, USA, Canada and others do not bother.  What works are interviews with polite informational sessions including the giving of what to do if you think you are sick cards. It is how many of the initial infected patients were first identified in the USA.

Thailand will throw open its doors to the Chinese , all for money.

Wrong, 11 airports in the US are doing temperature scan.
