I need some help establishing the approx market value of a 2003 Toyota D4D Sportrider, 4X4 auto, 3000 cc, 83,000 KM. No accidents, no problems, almost new tires. Runs well, doesn't need any kind of repairs. The only damage is some minor chipped paint around the wheelwells from pebbles.
This is not an ad. The vehicle is not for sale right now. I just need to know the value for financial planning purposes.
Thanks!

Any thoughts on why the tire shops routinely fill tires to 40 lbs pressure, and the effects of doing so?

Has anyone compared Pantip prices to those at Tukcom? Also, I may be looking at buying 12 or so computer systems. Any suggestions for a shop in either place where I can talk to someone knowledgeable in English about motherboards, display cards, etc. and has all around good service as well as competitive prices?
Thanks,
Peter

What do you guys understand by the term ‘key money’, can it sometimes be annual rather than a one time payment (deposit?) and does it sound something like ‘bray-zee-er’ in Thai or is that something else?
Thanks,
Peter

Crossy, where would we be without you? . Thanks for the informative and lucid explanation.

I understand (now) that a 220 V pump is inherently dangerous in any kind of pool and will correct that situation, but as a matter of interest and education, is there any safety benefit at all from grounding the water particularly with a GFI in the house? No benefit.
In fact is is not practically possible to 'ground' water. Fresh water is actually a very poor conductor so just sticking a ground rod in will have zero effect (the water is already in contact with the ground after all).
The danger comes when a person gets wet, the water on the skin forms a thin conductive layer with the skin oils and salts forming an easy path for electricity leaking from your iffy pump. The leakage would possibly be insufficient to trip the GFI until the person comes in contact/near contact at which point he gets a wallop and (hopefully) the GFI trips (yes you definitely feel a strong shock even with a GFI, you are just less likely to die).

It seems to me I had to call AIS and they downloaded a configuration profile to my phone.

I have just starting using my Nokia 2630 for mobile internet on my laptop connected through bluetooth. A "G" symbol comes up at the top when I am connected so I was wondering if it is actually using "EDGE" or just GPRS. I was thinking that maybe this basic phone just shows a "G" for either one. BUT I just saw a friends identical phone and hers has an "E" lit up at the top all the time. Then when I connect to it though bluetooth, the "E" is circled. So now I know that I am obviously just using GPRS although I want to use EDGE.SO, how do I set up this 2630 phone to use "E" (EDGE) instead of "G"?

We've built a waterfall/wading pool that uses an aquarium style submersible non-grounded pump. There is a Safe-T-Cut in the house. Would running a ground wire into the pool make it any safer in case of a short or leak into the pump?
Thanks,

I used them for an 20 station office and also at home a few years ago. I was happy with the service, both Internet and helpdesk.

Thanks for the feedback...definitely a good recommendation. I'm in the initial stages of switching and JI-NET's assistance in making the switch has been impressive "so far" in their telecons/emails to me on how to handle the switch to minimize switchover costs and time to switch. Thanks again.
You're welcome. I hope they work out for you. If I ever manage to get a land line in my house they'd be the first one's I'd try.

Hi,
While it is not a big deal in a non-critical system like this, you might check the hard drive manufacturer's sites for drives that are specifically for RAID - they will not have 'heroic' data recovery routines built into them.
You don't need a lot of RAM or fast CPU for a fileserver. Adaptec and others have RAID controllers on PCI cards - you don't need to buy a new MB for that.

If you still have the problem, first try pinging the server - at least see if the network connection is okay. If so, post or search on the error.
I am on a clients remote worksite and have been trying to get my Vista Business laptop onto their Domain. Tried the usual XP network approaches (I am a Vista newbie) but being confounded by the way that Vista has these pre-configured 'wizard' type setups that don't match what I am trying to do. A cursory google search indicated that getting a Vista machine onto either an XP Workgroup or Domain isn't as easy as XP to XP.The previous contractor (my back-to-back) had an XP Pro laptop and left his crib notes as he says getting online was quite easy. However, using the settings he has left me hasn't worked so far.
Anyone with some insight care to comment? The client IT chap is not on site and it's a quiet night here. I can't help thinking that there's one additional 'enabler' that Vista needs that isn't too obvious or documented.

I want to learn the theory and practice of improving search engine results. Where is a good place to start?

I have been following the LPG/CNG threads with interest, but wonder what my other alternatives are.
I have a '91 Civic. The recommended fuel is 95 octane. I've been running 91 for a while with no hint of a problem. No run on, no knock. The timing may have been set back a bit by the mechanic but the car is peppy - no complaints about power. But I wonder if I am living in blissful ignorance potentially causing serious engine problems, or does the lack of knock, etc. indicate that the engine is burning 91 okay?
How about continuing on with 91 but changing to a thicker head gasket if one is available?
Also, what would be involved in converting the car to run gasohol? I know that the alcohol affects rubber products, but just where would those be likely to be? Fuel line couplers, fuel pump? carburetor?
Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

you could always check to see if CDMA or some other form of mobile connection is available and get a monthly unlimited package for that , 800kbits down would suit your torrenting needs
I was given to understand that torrents are not possible on any mobile connection. Was that wrong?

Hi,
Can anyone tell me the Engine oil capacity of a Sportrider 3.0 diesel? It seems to be something over 6 litres.
Thanks,

Hi,
The wife will be selling a house to another Thai and will take back a mortgage on the property. I’d like to hear from anyone that has done this and any thoughts on possible pitfalls or other advice.
Thanks,

Hi,
Can anyone tell me the recommended change interval for the Sportrider fuel filter and is there just one or two?
Thanks,
Peter

Probably due to the ISP using a cache. They just about all do here.

Hi,
Does anyone know of a children's dance studio in the Pattaya or Sattahip/Ban Chang area? Ballet preferred but also Thai or modern is of interest.

One question I have is is Aircard technology different from EDGE technology, and any less likely to be location sensitive.

Do you use an EDGE phone as a modem for your computer?
If so:
[*]What make/model is the phone?
Nokia 3110 C
[*]Which network/price plan are you on?
1-2 call (AIS) 30 hr/month for 50 baht but plus air time.
[*]Do you use a PC or Mac - any particular problems in either case with getting it setup and connected, software drivers etc.?
Not really. For AIS call 1175 and they will walk you through it. Excellent English and knowledgeable staff. They also will check and upload configuration data to your phone.
[*]How reliable/steady is the EDGE connection once it's established?
Terrible. Not reliable
[*]Does your performance vary depending on whether you're in a good/bad EDGE coverage area?
I don't know because I only use it in one location. I would really like to have the answer to that question but testing is not convenient.
[*]Does your performance vary by time of day - e.g. when the network is under load?
No.
[*]What kind of download speeds are you getting on average?
Download Speed: 156 kbps (19.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 72 kbps (9 KB/sec transfer rate)
But the problem is intermittent connection. It is very difficult to complete a 5 MB download.
[*]How do you connect it to your computer? (USB/Bluetooth/Infra-red etc.)
Bluetooth, but that doesn't affect download speeds.
[*]Any other comments?

Personally, I'm in the market for a phone with data capability but torn between going for a reasonable EDGE-enabled phone for now like the Nokia 3110 Classic (at 4,400 Baht) or waiting a bit, saving up my satang and getting a bit more of a future-proof model with both EDGE and 3G capability like the Nokia E51 at 12,000 Baht or so. There are rumours that Thailand will be getting HSDPA 3G at some stage and one would hope that a phone like the Nokia E51 will be able to connect to it when it's available.
Then I can use it for the next 6-8 years like my trusty old Sony Ericsson T68i
I also like the idea of getting a phone that can connect to a wireless ADSL router (which I have at home) because then you can install software on it (like Fring) that allows you to make VOIP calls for free and/or you can also connect your VOIP call over public wi-fi points when you're out and about.
I have a 3110 and use EDGE, and it is terrible. That may well be due to my location in the Sattahip hills - I wish I knew for sure, but it really sucks. Not so much download speeds but the constant start and stop of downloads whether it be web pages or files. It reminds me very much of a landline dialup connection 15 years ago.

Market Value Of 2003 Sportrider?
in Thailand Motor Discussion
Posted
Hi Lee :-),
Thanks for that. Oddly, I don't see any Sportriders listed there, but I did find some at http://www.cars4thais.com. Prices were in the high 500K range right up to 629,000.
Thanks again,
Peter
