  1. Hi,

Sorry to give you the same answer that you would no doubt have heard before, but not easy at all; initially lots of dead-ends, wasted time and money, etc. Plus of course a LOT of documentation.

However we eventually found the right contact in Pakse and they got it all done. Happy to send you more info on PM,

  2. Following with interest. I have lived in Thailand the last 15 years, and am married (legitimately via Lao authorities) to a Lao national, so have had the possibility of relocating there in mind for some time.

She is from Pakse which I only visited once during a flood so didn't get to see much of. It might be somewhere we use as a starting point to spend time with family etc, before heading up to LP where we have both visited several times and love. Very interested to hear the perspective of someone on the ground there, thanks for your posts simon43!

  3. soi 94 not closed, just moved way up the soi where Oys restaurant used to be.

There is another gym/muay thai gym on 102 but I haven't looked in at what equipment they have and seems to be closed a lot.

Also one near/inside Lotuswell resort, hin lek fai but I don't know anything about that.

  4. Hi, my neighbours 2 bedroom house is for rent on soi 102, 12k p/m long term, 13k p/m s/t. Close to gym, bars and restaurants. They really need to tidy up the exterior before they rent it I think (just a tidy up, nothing major) but they are showing people as it is (I have not seen inside). PM me if you want more info and I can put you in touch with them directly.

  5. Hot Property! Easily, the most trusted and longest established real estate company in Hua Hin!

They don't even respond to rental requests from people they know, doubt if a stranger will get much luck

Since the main man has left Hot Property, I would be surprised if you will get any good service from them. The guy now has a new company on soi 57 and is by far one of the hardest working and most honest people I know.

  6. If you want to be near Black Mountain because you play golf, there is someone I can recommend talking to who is very knowledgeable on Hua Hin, golf, and property, but I don't want to put his details here *so I have sent you a PM.

  7. Thanks a lot for your answers!

True, there are a lot of positives in HH, but none that are of a lot of benefit to me (rarely go to the beach, don't play golf, rarely visit Bangkok, not interested in being surrounded by foreign or Thai tourists constantly, etc). The best thing about here for me is I live next to a good gym and I can escape down south easily.

I do find it expensive (yes, especially rental prices), too small/infrastructure not very good (basically one congested main road with crowded, narrow off-shoot sois with no parking, no beach view unless you are ON the beach), only 1 choice for shopping locally (more coming soon though), there are not too many people here in my age group (mid-30's) that are here long term, it doesn't feel at all like 'real Thailand' etc etc. Not saying all these issues are specific to HH by the way, I am sure they are not, I think I have just been here too long! (3 year work contract just ended).

I guess I should take a trip up to see how things have changed up there, not been for 2 years maybe (first trip there was 12 years ago).

    Thanks again!

  8. Hi Mike,

I have a friend with a couple of boats down in Paknampran marina, he often goes fishing either with a small group on his private boat or a charter with a larger group (about 1000B per person including all gear, bait, etc).

I have only been once, was a great half a day, didn't catch anything huge but enough for a good feed in the evening, and the beers were cold!

How can I pass the contact info on to you?
