All of the Thai people I know in the USA are happy to be out of Thailand - at least for now in their moneymaking days. Over time, they lose more interest in returning every year. Just an observation. Some tell of lack of opportunity (or put the other way around, lots of opportunity and less discrimination in the USA).
When a street vendor found out I was American, and this was several years ago, she asked, "how do I get to America?" Obviously, she knew there was far more opportunity and money outside of Thailand. At least for the majority of people.
People want opportunity and make a living.

Reading a news article, Daily Mail, I know, she may not be at fault. He was kicked out of an Uber, so probalby drunk. His dad said the road where he was dropped off was dangerous. Not well lit, to boot.
Either way, she panicked, people do that. She may have thought she'd be in trouble when she may not have. Cultural thing? Worried about the police and the legal system as many do and rightly so in a lot of instances.

Many skip "break fast". Intermittent fasting and low-carb.

This is really too bad. To know so many people around you are so deep in debt, particularly if you are doing okay. I guess the trick is to be discreet if carrying a nice phone and be low-key.

Hearts of Darkness by Joseph Conrad.
Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder by Caroline Fraser.
Beneath the Whispering Pines by Ruskin Bond.
Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell.
The Wayward Bus by John Steinbeck.
It's that or gaming on my PC/XBox.

I don't mean to be negative, but tourism is going to come back slowly and probably not well this year and coming winter. People have made other plans. As someone said, a recession is coming at least to the USA. Mortgage lending people are getting laid off at a fast clip right now. Also, the supply chain disruptions are probably going to make the cost of things, along with shortages with fits and starts to tourism make things rough with supplies like food - and prices will probably increase greatly.
These are just my own thoughts and predictions. The wife is not even sure she wants to return home next winter and its been awhile for both of us to visit. We have other places in mind this coming year and next year.
Praying things bounce back to be as normal as possible.

There's a lot of good places and I'm sure a lot of people have been watching YT to see that places like Mexico, Spain, Viet Nam, even Cambodia, are looking better every day. Or as good.
My Thai wife and I were looking at moving to Thailand this year, but after the last couple of years, we are delaying our plans for quite awhile and we are not sure if Thailand is in the cards now. We've really gotten comfortable with living where we are now in the States.
My wife was just talking about how much she likes a lot of things here: consumer protection, invariably safe food, no bugs to speak of, no mosquitoes, no snakes, no blistering heat...and its very quiet.
We have everything we need within minutes and we have snow in the mountains, sometimes at home, the ocean, moderate weather...
I feel people are rethinking their plans now. And some of that has to do with how some countries have dealt with the pandemic. People are rethinking everything.

Good to hear they have a crystal ball and can plan ahead for months.
A lot of people will still refuse the vaccine. I know much of my wife's family will refuse vaccination, including her parents. We are triple vaxxed here in the states.
This story says a lot about nothing. Hopefully, restrictions and all that go away by next winter.

This was no surprise. As we learned about WWII, Thailand has no enemies - nor real friends.

There's no way to even leave a message (full inbox), let alone get a person to help her.
There's one in Canada but the border crossing requires a rapid antigen test from a hospital - but that may be possible.
We are in the Seattle area also. Anyway, your wife can get emergency passport:

Kids can disappear before you know it. It is truly difficult to keep an eye on a kid every-single-minute. Particularly if you have more than one.

If you have 40 working quarters then part A is no cost (if you dont have enough working credits then you can pay for part A which if you have credits of 30+ quarters then you would pay $274 for part A, if you have less than 30 quarters then you would pay $499 per month for part A. Again most people have enough earned credits (about 10yrs) for a premium free part A.
You might be thinking part B, as part B everyone has to pay for which was increased this year to $170.10 per month. This is higher if you earn more. Some Medicare advantage plans offer rebates on the part B in main markets. The rebate can be anywhere from $50 up to $148.50 and these plans still provide low copays, with extra coverage (non-emergency transportation, Over the counter, Dental, Vision, hearing, etc.
Your next trip back to the USA. you might want to reach out to an insurance broker to see if you have better options. United is a great company, but very big and sometimes difficult to deal with. Also their plans are not as rich as some other companies.
You can go to Medicare.gov put you zip code in and it will show all plans in your area. Very good tool!!
Additionally if you have questions you can PM me, I'm a Licensed Medicare insurance agent in the USA so I can answer any questions someone may have.
Do you know if spouses with less than 40 quarters and get Social Security based off their spouse are eligible for Medicare?
Looks like I found the answer and a spouse can get Medicare.

We live cheaply in the states, mortage and utilities aside. Would apply to Thailand as well once we get there (and have a home). Of course, we eat most of our meals at home that we cook. Our needs are simple.

I think most men's mothers would worry that the young Thai bride is a gold digger. The rest of his family, particularly his adult children, can be more problematic if they think they will be diddled out of their inheritance or the old man will spend all his money on his child bride.
I married a Thai lady close to my own age and who had been 'westernised' to some extent (e.g. she had lived in a western country for 5 or so years). Of course, that all faded once we came back to live in Thailand.
I don't think I would even contemplate another relationship with a Thai lady if something happened to my wife. Going through all the Thai cultural introductions (meeting the parents, funerals, weddings, family crisis etc. etc.) once is enough for a life time. In addition, I'm not sure I could go through 'domesticating' a new wild Thai.
My wife came to the states and we got married. That was good. I got exposed to Thai culture through her and she got exposed to American culture while living here (and I think it may be harder for a Thai person to adapt than the other way around). There's a lot of differences and it takes time to acclimate to each other's culture. Yes, going through that again would be too much. Once is enough. We now have a blended culture at home here in America.

yes, over 35-40. for both persons, age doesn't matter too much. I've got 10 years on my Thai wife.

Probably next winter, barring another bad variant of COVID, restrictions will end, and life will return to as normal as can be.
It may take a few years for the tourist #s to return pre-COVID.

What’s the likelihood that the ASQ or SHA hotel has a kick back incorporated into the Hospital bill who their guests HAVE to go to? Further to that question, how likely are you now to get a positive result on your test and how do you verify the result without carrying your own test kits. And if you are carrying your own test kits which show you are negative and theirs are positive who is going to win and again how could you even verify your result if it has to go to a lab first. If you have been in Thailand for any amount of time you can easily compute that this scenario is all to easy occur. I concur with the stories Warning. It’s is far too risky stepping into Thailand as a tourist until all this nonsense is dismantled. Stop coming and it will happen much quicker. Keep coming and they will keep it running.
I thought the people who owned the big hotels there owned the big hospitals. Money going to the same pockets.

What more is there to say here...
Guys drinking with music, 3am....
Neighbour has enough attacks the group.
This story has been repeated numerous times in Thailand, it usually ends up with gun-shots.
------
The guys drinking were certainly inconsiderate of those around them, but no one deserved to die or to be on the wrong end of a grievous attack.
And the problem with too much to drink is losing common sense and inability to think clearly.

My wife is fine. She's gotten shouty just a couple of times in the last 11 years. As much as myself. Our assets are both of ours. She's been in the states 9 years, but don't find that pertinent to her behavior.
