Tourist Brawl in Jomtien Sparks Growing Concerns Over Pattaya Image

Haha a few street brawls from drunks does nothing to tarnish Pattayas image. Those ladyboys robbing foreigners. Street fights with Thai ladyboys angry a foreigner does not want or like them, teens robbing and beating foreigners to get money to fix their bike, security in packs beating down foreigners who are drunk, these are the things to rui the city's reputation.. Which by no means is a good reputation anyway. Corrupt police. Laws applied to foreigners but not to Thais as well as more severe punishments for minor indiscretions. Pattaya's reputation has nothing to fear from a measly street brawl amongst foreigners.

    That's all? lol

  2. I do Keto Intermittent Fasting. Just eat dinner. Trying to do a more intense fast so eating less.

Trying to avoid triggering insulin and increasing insulin resistance. Do take a day or two off when my wife is not working. Had frozen pizza the other day.

Chicken thighs, sardines, grass fed butter, leafy veggies, green beans. Keep under 20 carbs per day. 1/4 cup of walnuts. Extra virgin olive oil. A small steak. Eggs. Mixed nuts.

Adkins low carb is similar and I refer to their food list mostly: https://au.atkins.com/why-atkins/the-phases/

Trying to walk briskly for a period in the mornings, weather permitting.

  3. Hope that when we move there we can adapt okay. Wife is Thai, but she doesn't like hot. She prefers the cold of Puget Sound. Doesn't get too hot or too cold, but colder than Thailand. She had a hard time on a trip there and I was perfectly happy with the sun and heat. But after 3 weeks, we looking forward to leaving.

  4. Here in the states, I found Kerrygold (from Costco) to be a butter a lot of people, myself included, love to eat. I eat it daily for a keto-ish diet.

Is there a similar brand in Thailand? I assume it is imported from New Zealand?

And how much are butter prices for high quality grass-fed butter? Tolerable? How is domestic?

We try to be on the healthy side with food (organic as we can, food with fewer additives if any) and mostly cook at home - and its cheaper to do so.

My wife is Thai and we plan to move there eventually.

  5. I will admit traveling to Thailand in the past without proper insurance. Found out later company insurance didn't cover being abroad. Luckily, was not on any scooters and upcountry and fairly responsible, mitigating some danger.

When I was let go from my last company, I thought I had, by default, 3 months of insurance. Unfortunately, were supposed to call them and opt-in.

At the time, I was in Europe and was unaware, not trained, about bicycle lanes. I bike with basically a battery ram, a V-shaped welded arrow on the front of me, nearly nailed me in the ankle/shin. That could have put an end to me ever walking again. Could have snapped the shin right there and the bike rider didn't seem to care. Then after Europe was off to Thailand, solidly, no insurance.

This will continue to happen. These accidents. Unfortunately. Insurance or not. And people don't mitigate the dangers by wearing a helmet, proper clothing, gloves. You will see it here in the west, USA, most people don't seem to wear helmets riding bikes, scooters, going at high speeds. Sad its not enforced.

I was coming home about 10pm from Cowboy which was unusual. Very few farang get off at my stop but two 20 something women did just that. Also kinda revealing clothes. I immediately thought it odd - but then they continued up the main road which there was nothing up there except maybe trouble. I was better than 25m away from them and called out ... Girls...do you know where you are going?? They turned and then ignored me. I then said... bc there's nothing up there! They walked on.

Another time this stupid feminist looking group of young women were squabbling with a tuk tuk. The TT was in my area where zero farang would hail a TT. I asked if they needed help and they too ignored me.

Even 60+, Im not an unattractive guy and dress better than 95% of farang in this city. I get glances from Thai women half my age at times = I doubt I look threatening, but I guess all males are seen as threats to farang women these days. Fk em all 555

That's how the ladies act in the States. It is really odd. Every man seems to be a creep to them and you just have let them be. It's not even worth it to talk to them in any capacity for whatever reason.

I don't have the numbers, but I remember reading articles that end the end of the day many immigrants in Europe do actually work and pay taxes. And because many of them are young they help to keep the pensions going.

I think many European politicians have basically two choices: Let the foreigners in or reduce the pensions, increase the retirement age, etc.

The voters don't want A and they don't want B. But in reality, they have to accept that having everything just doesn't work.

I think it is obvious that many foreigners in Thailand work without work permit or have not really enough money to retire here and pay hospital bills, etc. In other words, they are illegal in Thailand - but obviously they want to stay here. But back home, ...

I was in Austria last year and migrants (non-white) were doing much of the work. And lots of them had their own shops, as well as selling on the streets - goods, vegetables. Handymen. Housekeepers. Cleaning people. Moving guys. Checkout stand workers. On and on.

  8. Most of the interesting commenter have simply disappeared over the years. I've been on and off for the last 14 years, from the days of Thaivisa, and people are just stop posting. You wonder what happened to them.

People have other outlets and more going on in the world with the internet. This was probably a big place back in the day and now it's just another site about Thailand.

There surely were some interesting times on Thaivisa a decade or more ago. Wasn't sure if Thailand was for me after reading the forum topics and posts.

More sterile now. There's not much to say, anymore. Or YT channels have covered it a million times.

Much of the internet is boring now. No real single community or two anymore. Homogenized as well.

  9. Done fighting the world and tuning out. Let the young people fight for change and justice. Do what you can in daily life to make the world better. Change yourself to change the world.

Neil Young - Walk Like a Giant lyrics (partial):

I used to walk like a giant on the land
Now I feel like a leaf floating in a stream
I wanna walk like a giant
I wanna walk like a giant on the land
Me and some of my friends
we were gonna save the world
we were trying to make it better
we were ready to save the world
    but then the weather changed
    and the white got stained
    and it fell apart
    and it breaks my heart

  10. Sound like they were broke, using credit cards from the get go to pay for the bills. And she has COPD along with rare 0 negative blood. And 69 years old. Traveling in India. This according to him in a Mirror article. I guess some people are real risk takers.

Credit him for only asking for the common "$10,000" number for donations.

Plus repatriation would be 42,500 pounds up to 140,000 pounds (private air lift).
