As to paper mask, here in states wore a thin cotton mask for the entire year. Only time I caught a cold (2x) was when I didn't wear it (after they were not required). That small data sample shows to me that any kind of mask will be helpful.

IDK. Is there any chance the country will open up by the end of the year? Things were looking kind of good a few weeks ago, but recent news seems like there will be a delay.
Hoping things open without restrictions (except proof of vaccination), but giving up hope for that. Maybe Sonkran?

That's pretty close to what I was looking for in a partner. City girl. Middle class or so. Someone like me. Educated, working professional, divorced and kid fine with me because that's me. Similar life experiences/situation. We met through an online site almost 10 years ago. We got married 7 years ago in the States. The #1 was chemistry and we hit it off from the beginning. Not that there were not bumps along the way since we met and both of us have learned and adapted to each other and each culture. Now we are looking to return to Thailand.

You obviously have not been to Loei. Stay away!!
My wife is from Khon Kaen, but after having lived in the Seattle area with mountains and rivers, we are considering a move to Loei or Phetchabun. It's really hard to find information on Loei. Definitely not the big city living! We'll be over to visit once travel restrictions are lessened. Cheers. (We have visited - her former coworker worked there and we spent the afternoon up at the big dam there on one of those boats and had lunch. And then there's Chiang Khan, of course.)

lets just say the situation is as fluid as the covid rate in the US, presently starting the 4th wave. With more states removing mask mandates and folks gathering with no regards to health combined with the virus's tendency of striking down younger people this is far from over. Don't count on Thailand relaxing anything with a country heading towards an out of control disease rate. With your CDC head pleading to purposely deaf folks, it doesn't bode well for the future..
Hope things change once most people in Thailand are vaccinated. Specifically, the government is satisfied with the herd immunity.
Mutations of the virus may be a real problem. I hear they are develop a new vaccine/update for new strains. It's a real problem. Europe is having problems as well as we know and people are careless.

One of the conditions for me to consider buying property in Thailand that my wife and I agreed on was it was nowhere near her family.
It has nothing to do with schools or being in a backwater.
It’s 100% a matter of avoiding her family’s drama.
They’re sweet folks and all but I asked my wife to name a time we spent time up with her family and someone did not end up in a fight.
Never physical fights. Just too many old sisters living on the same soi for their entire lives.
My wife thought I was exaggerating but the next few times we visited I made a little video of the little dramas popping off and she laughed and acknowledged that the aunties do like to be dramatic.
So, living in her hometown is not even on the table anymore. ????
Years ago, my wife and I thought about living on land next to her family and having a little farm to grow our own vegetables. Two times she went back to Thailand (from the USA) for month long periods and decided after her experiences there (and her being a bit Americanized) that we'd live far away and have visits once a year.

I see you don't have many posts here on TV, but i will not call you a "newbie" because your post
does well in describing why many have left that bastion of fleedom .
And just to add, we have a 40 year old female tenant (here in CM) that has just managed to return to Thailand after going through all the ASQ stuff. She can't stand the US either !
BTW: if Thai wife not ready you can always come first ????????
I had a different Thaivisa account several years ago and had closed it. Back again. I've been to Thailand many times and the rose colored glasses came off with each visit. It's certainly not perfect, but we are ready to move from our current residence, anyway, due to the cold and wet weather much of the year. The USA is great in many ways. Much to love about the great outdoors, but certainly the downsides.
Anyway, we are looking at the Chiang Mai area as it appears to have a nice international feel like we have in the Seattle area. No so much running to Thailand, but to warmer weather throughout the year, a change of scenery, and a new adventure for us to do things in SE Asia. It's incidental, to some degree, that she is from Thailand. And we like to stay home more and more and like gardening and visiting temples and flower and plant festivals.
My original comment was to counter the negative aspects expressed about Thailand when there's enough to dislike in our home countries. Any place will have its good and bad, so you pick your poison. There is certainly a lot to like about Thailand and we have a good time when we visit each year.
Would love to go to Thailand first, but wife says it would not be safe for me, lol.

I like Thailand, I am as happy here as I would be anywhere. Yes it has its frustrations, but so does every society that I have ever lived in, including in my home country of the UK. Had I never met my Thai wife, I would not be living here, that is very plain to me. Rather I would have stayed in my home country, as a base to travel the world, as I had done for many years with my job. I do not feel valued here, or particularly wanted, amused toleration seems about the best it gets from the locals. But I do feel the ambivalence to we expats, friendly enough on the outside, but not that bothered about our difficulties with government, welfare, friendship, or involvement in their culture, rather I find a lack of understanding as to why we are here in the first place. Interestingly, and maybe because of my influence, my Brit/Thai daughter, living in the UK, feels pretty much the same about Thailand as I do. Maybe its a universal feeling for expats and immigrants to any country, as I'm not at all sure that my own feelings towards those that settle in the UK is that much different to what I see here in regard to western expats, ambivalence, and perhaps that's where the debate naturally takes us. Ed: perhaps to add, would I recommend Thailand to anyone for retirement; never in a month of Sundays.
I don't feel wanted in my home country here in America. No one cares about me except my family. People are rough with most anyone and rarely had a good experience with them. Things are expensive. Being older you are ignored most of the time, questioned if you can hear or comprehend what people say to you. People here just want you for your money, no other interest. Property taxes and utilities are obscenely high and a lot of racial tension and women in general when out and about treat you like some threat and god forbid you walk past someone's children.
Didn't really have these feelings while visiting and being in Thailand. When Thai wife is ready to move back, I'll be with her.

Nice post. Great story. My Thai wife and I live in the USA. We plan to move to the Chiang Mai area in the near future. I'm retired and she works. Hope to return when this mess is over and restrictions are lifted.

Cream, almonds, berries, eggs, water blend. Low carb, fats and the protein and v&m u need.
Apparently, too much protein can spark the insulin. I just focus on fats and veggies. Still eat carbs and protein, but try to minimize. So a fatty chicken thigh should be better than a lean chicken breast.

Trump has gone way off the deep end. Today (Oct 8 USA) was bananas. Completely removed from reality. Wants indictments against Clinton, Binden and Obama and talked about being a perfect physical specimen and that he was "really young." Lost it. Could be the steroids.

Amazing Thailand why am I not surprised
Oh my. The daily Thai tourist government news. I thought the American White House was dysfunctional, but this really takes the cake. I don't even mention this kind of news to my Thai wife. She recently said, "you will only go crazy" in regard to government decision making.

With no evidence, I suspect the virus is running rampant in Thailand. People are not getting tested and people are self-medicating. If there was no problem there, they they wouldn't have the restrictions they have now.

As for myself . . .
I'm unwilling to put 25K USD (approx) and just let it sit there. I have little faith in Thai banks. It's probably easy enough to put the money in but to take that out of the county at some point I would not be so sure about and I'm not even going to try to find out.
It does not cost me 65K baht to live here so why in the world would I want to bring that much in every month. I live quite well for far less than that IMO.
For me it's an easy decision to pay an agent $600 USD and it's done and dusted for the year.
May I ask what is involved, what services are performed for $600 for visa? My wife is Thai and we will move there in the future, so perhaps this may or may not be a necessary way to get and maintain a visa.

It is very weird. Countries like Austria that have been successful in containment. Slovakia, Czech Republic for example in Europe that have had less cases than Thailand are not listed.
Countries with increasing problems such as China, Japan, Korea are listed as safe..
What a farse... It just proves that the higher powers in Thailand have got brain cell deficiencies.
Austria went into Total Lockdown. Very tight on letting people back in. And Austrians seem to like to follow orders/like order.

After all the sex he had at his fingertips on countless porn sets, and being paid for it, it appears he couldn't take a woman on his own and had to resort to rape. I have to say @ 67 he don't look good at all.
If the allegations are true, som nom nah.
Rape is about power and control. Must be what floats his boat. Romance and love are not there.

Can foreigners married to Thai and both reside outside (USA) go to Thailand, like together? My wife and I want to visit.

I hope things open up for the sake of the people and travel to Thailand is allowed without too much trouble.
Our annual trip to see family/in-laws and friends was canceled for this month, obviously. Ready to move there as well, at least part-time.

Ok. That's fine for me.
However, and that was my point, he did talk B.S. on several occasions (see my previous post) and that is not going to make people or markets feel safe.
However, if he changes his behaviour from now on and stops talking BS, I can only rejoice. Despite what Trump and his followers claimed so far, I think this is going to be a very acute health crisis. For the good of the American people, I wish he will eventually get things right.
Trump has been a grifter all his life. Criminal business has been his family's history back to at least Dawson City, CA where his grandfather run a whorehouse and whatnot. He has an army of lawyers working to defend his decisions. I don't hate him. I feel sorry for him. He's never been a normal human being.

My sister in law just called us from Khon Kaen minutes ago. A letter was sent out to everyone in the province that all international travelers must self-quarantine. Basically, they were told to report anyone who was out and about and appeared to be visiting internationally, Thai or otherwise. Wife is alarmed and wants to cancel our trip.
Haven't seen anything in the news and it takes days for a letter to arrive? I realize there are a few countries on a list that have been the focus of Thai authorities.
We are planning to cancel our trip there for April. Wife doesn't want to deal with the stress of what's going on and potential self-quarantine.

We will be there next month, so hopefully they don't quarantine everyone!

Colds are coming back after masks come off (wave3.com)
