  1. i know one older thai man who speaks good english & he is very passionate about thai politics & where the country is going.so much so in fact that i try not to bring the subject up in case he blows a gasket.he is embarrassed about what the outside world think about the running of his country.

    he may be unusual though.

  2. in my experience of the indian fortune tellers in thailand, they are generally good acters who can turn on the charm.i have found them a little spooky, but not in any spiritual sense. :o if you resist their offerings they may tell you that theres something very special about you,as an encouragement.

yes i agree about them being good readers of people.

  3. maybe the men that are praising their thai women, are doing so because they see them constantly being critized by farung men,who are probably here largely for...................................................

    the thai women. :o

  4. ive just drunk two bottles of chang, but only as a kind of experiment to see why it has such a bad name on this forum (also because i couldnt remember what it tasted like).as far as the experiment goes i can say that it tasted quite good on the last half of the second bottle.so i think you could say that chang beer has passed my rigorous tests & examination.if you asked me what my opinion was after the first sip,i would say confused.

  5. i am pretty sure the problem lies on the uk side,as ive had problems in sending stuff home from other countries to the uk,eg new zealand.ive tracked the packages down & each time its been a balls up in the uk.

the thing i dont like about thai post is that for sending small items as a regular buisiness,it can be

    expensive.

    fed ex have 10kg boxes,3500baht

25kg boxes,4700 baht its on their thailand website.

one thing to consider is that if youre boxes are big,but light, then couriers tend to charge youre shipment by the volumetric weight= lxwxh divided by 6000.obviously thai post, just charges by the weight.

i think tnt thailand seems like a good option for bigger size boxes,it also has about 5 different rates, economy express being the cheapest.

simple to use website aswell to check rates.unlike someothers where they ask you to much, when all you want a simple quote.

PS IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A GOOD AIR FREIGHT AGENT (OVER 45KGS) DOOR TO DOOR TO UK.I'D APRECIATE IT.

  6. yes,its kind of complicated isnt it.

maybe it wouldnt be so hard to befreind a thai or burmese in bangkok who has a buisiness, guest house etc, in bangkok & pay the yearly work permit.maybe do it at the place you stay in bangkok.so officially she would be working.

i would think that she woulde be restricted to bangkok though.

i have the same situation so i'm trying to find out more myself.

  7. i'm interested in shipping some books in from amazon to my address in thailand.

ive looked on asia books, but they only have a small selection of the topic i'm interested in.

does anybody have any experience of shipping in books to thailand?

will i likely to be hit with customs duty on new books?

  8. i am located on the burmese border, where the burmese can cross into burma no problem.im not sure where you are located at the moment.

my girfreinds burmese freind has just got back from rangoon after getting this passport,so obviously she got back into thailand with it.i met her & her japanese boyfreind the other night for drinks.

before,i had been told a very wide range of costs from different people.one burmese freind told me to beware of the 300 dollar burmese passports as they are likely to be fake.

obviously the burmese people working in bangkok pay for a yearly work permit,so they can stay there legally.

i will also have to look into the visa renewal.

  9. hello,i also have a burmese girlfreind (karen) & i have just found out how much a passport & 2 month thai visa is in rangoon.

the passport is 30,000kyat (approx 900 baht)only lasts 3 years though,& ive been told its a little hard to renew, but im sure cash pointed at the burmese government should ease the difficulties.

a broker for the passport is 50,000kyat

    2 month thai visa,rangoon=around 25 usd

when she goes to rangoon to apply,i think its best to keep clear of the proceedings for obvious reasons.
