Quick follow up, I have only pneumonia and flu, but with my medical history it will be drug resistant. Way too many applications of anti biotics, used in the past.

So yes, this new virus has the potential to take out quite a few people.

Antibiotics have nothing to do with viruses.

Granting BA the monopoly on Samui (do not even mention the Thai flights, that were arranged with an agreement to always charge MORE than BA) was one of the single worst decisions any administration has ever made. And allowing them to continue running this monopoly, and getting away with skinning tourists alive with their pricing to Samui, is a felonious crime. Shame on the government for this.

Its now coming back to bite them. Considering the tourist dollars coming in to the island over the last couple of decades the amount spent on infrastructure is appalling

While I agree wholeheartedly that anyone who uses a hospital should pay their bill, I think a major point is being overlooked. Tourism generates billions of dollars for the economy. Tourism is also by all accounts other than TAT in sharp decline. That number may well reduce further if every tourist has to pay out for an insurance policy, which may or may not cover problems they encounter. Maybe they should weigh the 448 million baht against the potential tens of billions they might lose.

Correct income from tourism is 2.5 Trillion Bhat a year or 84 Billion USD

    - and she gets pension later too - and after living here for over 10 years she can take it back to Thailand too - after I am gone.  Win/win.

It is my understanding for full portability of the pension you will have to have been a resident for 35 years. if she has only been a resident for 10 years then she will only be entitled to 10/35ths of the pension if she leaves the country.
