In the future nobody should be allowed to leave China without being quarantined for an appropriate length of time first. If you visit China be prepared to be quarantined before you are let loose in another county.
Exactly. China should be quarantined from the rest of the world indefinitely until they can demonstrate they understand the consequences of their practices and actions. I’m sure certain governments will make them bleed for this disaster.

What is it you don’t understand about social distancing?

I’m not seeing it coming from people I know as racism. Their concerns are valid though. After SARS China had a responsibility to stamp out these practices and actually Outlawed them but became lax about enforcement. China is by no means a poor country it has massive wealth. How they distribute that wealth is the issue.
The general consensus I’m getting is that the people will be expecting their respective governments to hold China to account for this pandemic. It’s not about race.- 6

How did this spread to so many people attending this boxing event ?
all from possibly one person ?
I find that hard to believe - were they all touching each other
No need they all just touched the same railing, door handle etc that an infected person touched. Then probably touched their face or ate with their hands.
The best defense is hand hygiene and keeping your hands away from your face.- 1

Keeping the numbers low again. I would have thought that a couple of million have already lost their job.

How surprising. Yet only a day ago insisting it was a foreigner.
The foreigner blame game is just beginning. -

Flu kills up to 650,000 people worldwide each year - WHO number not mine - I rounded down to 500K.
650,000 a year equates to 54,166 every month.
Do the maths.
Simplistic answer to what it currently still a very unknown infection. Best leave the equations to the experts.

@spidermike007 The cost for the coronavirus test in the US has been reported to be $3500. There is some states that have plan to test for free but they probably won't test unless you show symptoms.
Typical American Corporate medical greed. The test is only about $400 in Australia. Not that anyone has to pay for pathology here.

It’s a risk you have to weigh up given the current environment. There is also the possibility you may not be able to return home easily.

Like the ones taken of the Chinese airlines check in zone last week that claimed to be immigration?
Lots of clues there. But if I was a betting man I would say it was about 11.05 am

How much does a hospital test cost, for example? (in a mainly privatized health care system, everyone has access to health services?)
I remember that when China officially announced the virus in January, at that time 13.000 Wuhan citizens were in Thailand, and in the following weeks hundreds of Chinese citizens arrived every day.
How is it possible to have "only" 48 infected?
In addition, the behaviour of the Minister of Health is borderline shameful, as it deresponsibilizes the Thai institutions and people, accusing foreigners of infecting the Thai people.
The statistical travel route data demonstrated that Thailand was most at risk than any other country.
the facts don’t lie.- 2

I would not, my Scandinavian home country is relatively 4-5 times as dangerous, counted on registered corona virus cases compared to number of inhabitants; i.e. Thailand seems 4-5 times more safe.
Also, Thailand ranks in Top 6 on the WHO list for countries best prepared for handling epidemi/pandemi, actually higher on the list than my home country, which is known for an excellent health care system.
COVID-19 seems to be only dangerous for sick or elder people, often with other deceases reducing efficiency of their immune system; most of the fatal cases are in average around 80 years old, and more males than females (I read that average age for all fatal cases is 81 years).
Children seems not to be hit, or hit very mild, and younger people recovers. The latest WHO report (news article from March 4) said that there might be 10 times as many infected with SARS-CoV-2 (Corona virus) as registered, as many infections are so mild that people dont get sick, or don't get sick enough to be noticed as corona virus victims. The recorded little over 3 percent fatality might, based on that, rather be around 0.3 percent, and thereby in level with a normal influenza epidemi; between 290,000 and 690,000 people die every year from influenza – about 3,000 died in two month from COVID-19.
If you are healthy and not in a risk group, or high risk group, would you cancel your trip because of an influenza epidemi?
Again if you really believe the current figures ??
One of the best prepared countries? Maybe on paper. But what if the beep hits the fan ? -

Let's remember that there has been one death in Thailand from the new flu virus (oh, let's call it something unsettling; how about novel coronavirus?).
So your chances of dying in the land of sly smiles (so far) is one in 69 million.
The chances of you getting it at all are 48 in 69 million.
So if you are altering plans on the basis of getting sick, you are insane.
If you are altering your plans because of overreaction and the possibility of having to be under self-imposed house arrest for 14 days, then that's a real thing.
Based on the assumption the official figures are true. Not all of us are gullible.
