  1. Hello.

I am hoping to get my family back from Thailand to the UK in a few months time. Basically, I was wondering if it is necessary to register my Son's birth. I sorted out his passport about a year ago, and as it was about 10,000 baht, I decided against registering him at that time. Now, as I am needing all the money I can get to sort out visa's, etc...I waould like to know if he would be at a disadvantage when I get back to the UK. Can it be done there, for a cheaper price? Is it simply to get an English birth certificate, or will there be other advantages to it, needed when residing in the Uk (eg registering him with a doctor, child benefit, etc..)

    Thanks if anyine can help!

  2. I have a jailbroken Iphone, and I am a truevisions gold subscriber. I recently downloaded the truemove premier league application (free from the itunes store).

Anyway, it appears I need a true 3g account to get some parts of it working. I'm tempted to to this, if it is worthwhile.

What's puzzling me is that it seems that you can get certain live matches when the games are being played. I can't work out what this means? Could it be possible that you can actually watch a live premier league game on your iphone or does it just mean you get some sort of live coverage in the form of a text commentary or something similar. It seems a bit misleading if this is the case, although I would be suprised if you could stream a live game.

Has anyone actually signed up for this service? If so, can you fill me in?

    Thanks,

  3. Hello,

I thought I would jump on this topic, as you are in a similar situation to me. I have just been accepted on a PGCE teacher training course in September, and I also need a settlement visa for my Thai wife. However, I don't have anything substantial in the bank at this moment in time. I also have no idea what I need to do to make the whole process run smoothly. I am a bit concerned, as I am looking to borrow fees, grants, etc.. and then start paying back when I am qualified the following year.

Will I still be able to get a visa for my wife? I can probably get a large sum of money transferred into my bank account (but would need to transfer it back again!), I can also use my parents, if needs be, as sponsors (we may even be staying at their home for the duration of the course).

I'm not really sure how it all works, as I was putting all my energy into getting accepted onto the course before. Are there agencies which you can pay to sort it all out for you?

Thanks, if anyone can answer my questions!

    Cowman1,

I've posted a couple of questions before which seem to relate to your situation. Check them out here:

    Thanks Neilo,

    Yes, very helpful!

  5. Hi,

As the immigration office has now moved I am giong to attempt to do my 90-Day report by post. I have downloaded a copy of the form and I have copied all the pages of my passport, including the bit that they attach with the next reporting date on it.

I read that I also need to encloase a stamped address envelope to my address. I think this is everything?

I just have a couple questoins if someione could kindlyu answer for me.

    1) Where do I send it? On the website the address they give is the old office at Suan Pluh.

    2) Do i need to post my original passport, or will copies suffice?

    3) Has anyone done this successfully yet? Is it possible to check if it is done by calling them?

    Thanks, if anyone can help!

  6. Hi.

I'm with TOT which is pretty crap for anything outside of Thailand, however Call of duty has a great matchmaking service, not exactly sure how it works, but it seems to find players under a certain ping. Also, there are loads of people within Thailand playing it. It's just about flawless when you find a game with Thai players (as is any other game I play online). I gave up playing people outside of Thailand a long time ago, but I have now built up a list of thai-based psn friends so it works out fine.

Watboy - I will be happy to do some co-op on ps3 with you, I am signing on most nights, feel free to add me: Thaicowan.

It's a great game! Although, I am constantly getting blown away online it's still great fun!

  7. Hi.

I know there are loads of posts about slow internet on this forum, but I think something may be wrong with mine. When I run a ping test to a site in thailand (using cmd prompt "ping www.____" it gives me an average of 501ms (as of 22.00pm). This seems crazy, as it is within Thailand. I would expect it to be bad elsewhere, but surely TOT can sort it out within the Country? Basically, I am having trouble connecting with online games on my ps3. Also, in the morning at around 7am it is as low as 30ms.

Can anyone on TOT internet out there do a quick ping test for me, just so I can determine if it is my connection or a common problem for all users. I am on (supposedly) 3mb package.

    Thanks if anyone can help!

  8. About 2 years ago i bought an xbox 360, and it got the doomed RLOD after a laughable 6 months. I tried to get it fixed once then it just did it again, so I cut my losses and bought a ps3. I loved the PS3 and thought it was a pretty sturdy machine, even so I always made sure I kept the air-con on while playing it, as I was till living in fear after the 360. Anyway, now my ps3 has just got the "yellow light of death". It's so annoying, am I just unlucky or are they just not designed very well anymore? I loved my ps3 and now it is useless.

Anyway, I have rung MBK and they said they can fix it but YLOD is a big problem, could be 4000 baht. I am prepared to pay this but would it be as good as new, or would it just be a temporary fix, in which case I'm better off buying a new one. But what is to say that it will be any better? I never had a nintendo or a megadrive go on my in the past, but I'm starting to lose all faith now.

Has anyone had the YLOD? If so, did you get it fixed? Is it still working? Thanks is anyone can offer help / advice.

  9. Well, since I installed the "FakeAPN" widget for SBsettings, my minutes have remained the same. When I want to use edge, I just disable this. It seems to be a good fix, so I am happy now.

I paid 200 baht for 100 hours a month with dtac, this is only for the first 3 months though, then it drops down to 200 bht / 50 hrs. I am also interested in this 300 baht for unlimited edge through true, so I will have to look into this. Does anyone jnow if you can keep your old number if you move from dtac to true?

  10. Thanks for the quick reply! Well, I have wifi at home, but just bought some net hours for when I am not near a wifi spot. I have researched a bit on google, and it looks like it cannot be turned off, something to do with the 3.0 update (which I recently did). However I have downloaded a toggle for sbsettings called fake apn, which apparently means the iphone cannot wend / receive data, or something like that.

I'll have to keep checking the hours used and see if they stop running down.

  11. Hi,

I recently purchased some Interent hours from dtac, for using with Edge on my iphone. It is all working well, however, it seems to be sucking up hours even when i am not using it. As the "E" is constantly on in the corner of the phone display, does this mean that I am paying for it all the time, not just when I connect to the internet?

Is there a way to make it connect just when I want to ust the net? I would like to use this service on my phone, but can't seem to figure out how to turn it off when I am not using it. Is anyone succesfully using edge with dtac on their iphone? Is there something I am doing wrong?

    Thanks if anyone can help,

  12. Hi,

I have fixed this now! Just needed a Network setting reset.

    Cheers

    Hi,

I just purchased 2 hours of internet time through dtac, however I can't seem to connect to th net via my iphone (it works fine through Wifi) I have never seen the little E in the top corner and I'm not sure how to do get it up and running.

I have gone into Settings - general - network - cellular data network . Then I get 3 tabs to fill in, APN, username and password. After looking in the net, it says i need to put in more details, however I can't see where I should do this.

    Thanks, if anyone can help!!

  14. Well, I just got a new iphone and I am loving it. As for wifi coverage, I am in Hua Hin on a short break at the moment and I am surfing the net from my condo room, also when I went out last night I could connect via log in password at the restaurant. In fact they seem to be well "hooked up" here! I guess it depends where you are going to be staying for the 6 months. I use wifi at home to, so you could always get a cheap internet contract, and have it at home if you are going to be permanent in the same place. If not, and you are in hotels they all seem to have wifi these days. Also, you can use skype to call home through wifi and it works out a lot cheaper! I would just buy a pay as you go sim here, and keep the iphone.
