  1. Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help. I have set up a paypal account with my thai credit card (tesco lotus) and it has been verified. There is now a total of $2 that it took in order to verify. Anyway, now I want to use paypal purchase something on ebay. The thing is it will not allow me to add funds to my paypal account from a non-us bank a/c. Does this mean that if I buy something it will just take it straight from my linked credit card a/c?

If so, are there any extra costs involved?

Thanks if anyone can clear this up for me!

  2. Hi,

I am thinking about caving in and buying an iphone.

I looked on the website and it says I can have (interest free) payments of around 2327 a month x 10 months, if I am a true visions subscriber (which I am). Also, I saw there was another figure of around 599bht (is this a subscription you have to pay or something?

Anyway, can someone confirm how much it costs if you just want the phone, without a true sim / contract.

Also, is it easy to get the 10 month credit if i am a foreigner? I have w. permit, but no credit cards.

    Thanks if anyone can help!

  3. If you can navigate through the thai script, this is a good website for Thai games / gamers. I have bought and sold many games here, and there are many new items every day.

Usually, it involves an ems post, but I have never had any problems sending or receiving (although I do live in Bangkok).

Here is the link, but if it doesn't work just google "dvdgameonline"

    http://www.dvdgameonline.com/forums/index.php?showforum=3

TopDogger, what games do you have to sell, I am willing to swap "Dead Space" for something if you are interested.

  4. Hi,

Sorry about resurrecting an old post, but i am getting stupidly high ping times at the moment, this is

what i get when I run a ping test to thaivisa via command line:

Pinging 203.174.85.146 with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 203.174.85.146: bytes=32 time=682ms TTL=43

    Reply from 203.174.85.146: bytes=32 time=687ms TTL=43

    Reply from 203.174.85.146: bytes=32 time=661ms TTL=43

    Reply from 203.174.85.146: bytes=32 time=675ms TTL=43

    Ping statistics for 203.174.85.146:

    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

    Minimum = 661ms, Maximum = 687ms, Average = 676ms

If anyone is on TOT can they test for me, because I don't know whether it's a problem my end, or just another TOT issue (it's been high for weeks now though). I can't play my friend on ps3 in thialand cause it's so laggy.

    Thanks,

  5. Ok, so I am getting tired of TOT, and I am going to try and cancel my contract (even if I have to pay a fee). I don't ask for much, I'm not even that bothered about international speeds, but I like playing online games on my ps3 within Thailand. For the last 3 weeks my ping times have been averaging about 450 in to Thailand - this is appalling.

I was just wandering, if I want to change to Maxnet premier, will I have to install a new phone line , or will my TOT phone line suffice? If so, will I just have to pay the line rental to TOT and then the monthly subscription to Maxnet? Are there any other start up costs?

    Thanks if anyone can help!

  6. Hi,

Yes, I have also been having problems with my ps3 and TOT. I thought it may have been my router so I changed to my other one last night. I keep getting disconnected (which is annoying when I'm playing online with someone).

I hope they sort it out soon...

A few months ago I would have disagreed with the negative problems about TOT. I have had them at this house (in Ladprao area) for 4 years and always been pleased (considering this is Thailand) with their service. 2Mb internet package was never perfect but was reasonably consistent and allowed me to indulge myself with torrent downloads and online gaming via PS3 on top of the day to day emails and skype etc.

I recently returned from 2 months in the UK and have had that opinion turned around. I have had local speed tests showing 500 - 4,400 kbps (on a 2 meg line) and international speeds are always around 100 - 200 kbps, which is way lower than normal. The technician has spent over an hour checking my connections and gives me 2 numbers to call regarding international speed. i call them and they both say call 1100. I call them and they tell me they will send a technician!

I have called 1100 5 times in as many days and each time I am told something different about the problem and new upgrade packages. I always have to ask them to speak to a supervisor to find out about it. They then come back educated about said upgrades. Why don't they train everyone at the same time about what is going on? My wife now has to physically go to the local office to change things. I truly don't understand, with the technology available, why we aren't allowed to change things with a phone call or an email. It's like going back 20-30 years in time.

Anyone else getting problems with PS3 connection in the past couple of weeks?

  7. Thanks for the help,

Well, it's slightly quicker when using command line, but still 296ms. Monty, are you wit TOT?

Is this likely to be an ISP problem that will get resolved or would I be better off contacting TOT? It was definitely a lot lower (around 45ms a couple weeks ago).

    Thanks,

Well, I'm not on ToT, but True. Have been for about 4 years now actually. I can tell you in complete honesty, as someone who used to play online games which depend heavily on ping, that latency in Thailand will always be erratic, unstable and high. There will be green patches, sure, but for the most part it's either always bad or worse. I've probably called the help line over 20 times, talked to technicians, had people check the physical condition of my line for noise etc (and not just once). Nothing ever seems to be the problem on their end.

I'm afraid there is not much you can do as far as latency stability is concerned besides ride out the bad times. Additionally, the net has been really cranky over the last week, so it's probably tied in with that.

    Hi,

Yeah, I know it's online gaming is a bit of a nightmare from here (I have given up trying to play my friends from the UK). But I'm only really trying to connect with people within Thailand (I can't even connect to my friend at the moment who is only 1 mile down the road!). Usually within Thailand it is ok, but 290ms ping seems to be too high. I guess I will just ride it out a while, and hope it comes down again.

  8. Thanks for the help,

  9. Hi,

After running the a speedtest through thaivisa, i'm getting a ping of about 566ms (within Thailand), although my d/load speed is 1565kbps. The thing is I am having trouble connecting with some games on my ps3, and I think it may be due to the high ping. I'm sure it's usually about 45ms.

Is anyone else here on TOT? If so, is your ping this high? Or is there a problem at the moment?

    Thanks is anyone can help!

  10. Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could help with a few questions I have regarding a visa for the UK.

Basically, my situation is that I have a baby and a Thai girlfriend (soon to be wife). I have been teaching in Thailand for a few years, and have decided to go back to the UK to do a 1-year PGCE course. Anyway, my question is - will I be able to take my wife and baby with me? I am concerned because basically I will be a student, so cannot show anything in the way of income (other than public loans / grants etc for the course). I will be qualified after a year, and hopefully get a teaching position soon after. My parents are also going to help with some costs. and are willing to act as sponsors if necessary.

Does this sound feasible? If not, are there any alternatives?

    Thanks if anyone can help!

  11. Well, how about from an Italian paper?

Manchester United were widely praised, with La Reppublica breathlessly delighting in "un magnifico Carrick", while Inter's performance was not so well received.

"United were missing half a defence but with Adriano and Ibrahimovic always with their backs to goal Inter made it easy even for Vidic's reserve," said the Corriere dello Sport. "Inter need Patrick Vieira to return for the second leg. Muntari is not good enough for this level. With the Frenchman the situation could improve."

"This was an intense match, full of danger and suffering for Inter, who were kept on the ropes by a stronger and more dangerous squad," said the Gazzetta dello Sport. "Ronaldo was a constant threat. His speed was hard to match and when Davide Santon succeeded, the fans cheered as if their team had scored."

The Roma-based La Repubblica, Italy's second-biggest selling newspaper, proved Inter's harshest critics. "Ferguson yet again failed to beat Mourinho – this was their 13th meeting, with a single win for the Scottish maestro – but that was the only consolation for Inter from an evening when everything seemed negative ... there was overwhelming evidence of the technical and tactical superiority of the European champions ... the first half was terrible ... the only downside for United was their failure to score ... Inter returned to their changing room stunned by this display of great football ... Manchester gave the impression of being superior to Inter in every area." Crikey.

By the way, does anyone here know if The Carling Cup Final will be on UBC??

  12. Hi,

Does anyone play FIFA09 online on the PS3? It runs really smoothly when playing people in Thailand.

If anyone is up for a game my psn is: Thaicowman.

It would be nice to set up a thaivisa league, but I'm not sure if anyone here is playing it.

    Thanks,

    Cowman

  13. Hi,

I'm trying to set up a static ip with my CSloxinfo connection, as want to do some port forwarding. I want to know the 2 DNS name servers. When I used to have true I just googled it, but I'm having a little more trouble finding the CSloxinfo name servers (they are the 2 addresses you type in in Network settings / Internet properties. I tried calling them, but it got a little confusing.

Does anyone know what they are? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

  14. Hello,

I'm travelling to the UK next saturday, and basically I just have a couple questions. If anyone could help that would be great.

    1) My 3 month report is due on the 26th December, am I right in thinking that when I leave on the 21st, it will just become void, and simply start again when I arrive back in Thailand? Or do i need to do a 3 month report at immigration beforehand?

    2) I live quite far away from immigration, so is it possible for me to print out and complete the form myself, and then just hand it in with a photo at the airport. I read somewhere that the form printout is just for use at the immigration office.

Thanks in advance for any help!

  15. Well,

I'm quite happy with them overall. But the last time I ordered something they said it was out of stock, an that they would refund the money, I gave them the bank details and they confirmed they would do it in the next 5 days. Anyway, I just assumed it was done (it was about 1000 baht). Anyway, about a month later the product arrived. I then realised that they hadn't reimbursed me after all. It was a bit cheeky of them to confirm it, and then not pay the money, but I was still quite happy with the purchase (well, i wasn't expecting it so it was a bit like christmas!).

  16. Hi,

I transferred about 3000 pounds from uk bank account to my thai bank account, via swift, about a month ago. I now am looking to transfer it back. I read on this forum that it is better to t/f it in pound rather than baht, from uk, so this is what i did. I'm just wandering how should i transfer it back again? Is it better to change it to pounds first here, or leave it in baht (do the thai banks eb=ven give you the option??!!). I figure I should use SWIFT agian, is this correct?

Thanks in advance for any help!!

  17. Hi,

I recently bought a samsung phone and just want to connect it to the net (not wifi, just standard through the sim) When I try the browser it will not connect. Do I need to get something unlocked, or can I just do it in the settings on the phone Any idea what I need to put into the settings? It's a Samsung phone.

Thanks in advance for any help!!
