The current lazada thread got closed. I just want to state for the record the wallet is a scam. He won’t be able to use the funds from his wallet.

This thread is still current and open where your claim is refuted and a method given to use your wallet contents.  I agree you could have problems withdrawing it if that is your goal.

. . . . . or if in fact thai numbers are reused do often that it was a prior customer.

Thai numbers are re-used and I have a mate in the same position with Lazada Wallet and him having a phone number registered to a previous user.

Whatever .. my problem is it will not accept PATTAYA as my city of residence.  On first line (I thjnk it was asking for District ..  it accepts Chonburi .. next line it wants the city .. it wont take Pattaya or Na Klua.  Just clears my typing on me pressing enter.

I think this may be from the old system but it's still the same IIRC.  Either a pull down box or when you start typing it'll give you suggestions.

'. A subsequent meeting is scheduled for October 13th to address the outstanding legal concerns.'

That's a long time for the business owner to be left on hold

Further up the article it says the authorities visited the company on October 10th.  The actual dates should have been May 17th and May 20th and can be seen in the original report here:

The problem is - it doesn't work that way.  The DTA outline the conditions under which a country can lay claim to you as an tax resident as well as which country gets the first shot at taxing your income.  You need to read your DTA.  Like, the fine print.

I have and I believe it does as I fall under this definition from the UK DTA.

Actually funds remitted from outside Thailand would be subject to an additional 1/4 percent fee in range 200 to 500 baht taken out by Thai bank.  Wise uses payments from account already established in Thailand to avoid this extra fee - have no knowledge of XE.  So what lands in bank and actually lands in your account could be a bit different.

I don't believe so from looking at the information on their app.

This is pure conjecture & speculation on one person's part. Not factual.

I thought that was evident from my post (my bolding for emphasis)

If as suggested Thai banks may report funds received . . . .

Agreed it's conjecture but so is almost everything on the subject at this stage.

It's not whatiffery (whataboutery) or scaremongering as suggested by another, it's an invitation to discuss a possibility.  Feel free not to if you think it too far fetched.

  8. When I bring money into Thailand I usually use Wise whose MO is to take my funds in my home country and use their own funds in Thailand to square me up.  They show on my bank statement as funds received from another (Thai) bank.

Who is remitting in this scenario?

If as suggested Thai banks may report funds received from overseas as a tool to identify taxable funds to the RD, these will not be reported as remitted by me but by Wise.  What could happen here?

Has anyone used XE before? They are supposed to be cheaper than Wise. Is it as fast as Wise where I usually get payments within 10 minutes.

You can compare the two on line.  As I'm typing this, for £1,000 GBP Wise will give you 45,506 within seconds and XE will give you 45,416 THB.  XE app says delivery time is "Typically within 24 hours" but I've not actually used them to know how accurate this is.

You can't create a new topic in the news forums. Only for staff. Send me a PM with the story and we will consider publishing it.

Do bots count as staff and are there settings you can adjust to improve the quality?  The current regurgitations (eg from Pattaya News) read poorly.

“unless you choose otherwise”. You have to be careful here, for the ATM I used a couple of days ago in Bangkok, the outrageous DCC rate (dynamic currency conversion) was set as the default, and you had to specifically opt out to receive the proper rate. Your home bank may also levy a rip-off exchange rate (big 4 Oz banks), so it pays to arrange an account with a bank at home that uses fair exchange rates.

Agreed, and if possible choose one of each processor, Visa and Mastercard, to have a backup in case one network has issues.  I have that from two different UK banks.
