  1. Welcome to Thaivisa

1 The Langkawi express goes from KL to Had Yai Thailand daily. At Had Yai u need to get another train to Phun Phin which is about 12 miles from Surathani. Follow the crowds from there to Samui Island by road and ferry

2 To get a train to Chiang Mai you need to go to Bangkok [ or Bang Sue Junction ]

3 No - better to try in Malaysia for a boat to India

Have a look at www.seat61.com for train info. There are other trains[ short distance mainly] running that are not listed on websites

Thailand is 1 hour behind Malaysia

  2. Re 7

The common intersection for south/north/northeast lines is at Bang Sue Junction.

As Asanee says, u r better off getting a train from Nakhon Pathom to Bang Sue & picking up a north bound train from there.

There are more trains running than are shown on the computer - go to a train station [Had Yai is good for this] & get the paper timetables that show all trains. There are a lot of commuter & ordinary trains that run to BKK.

The platform for south bound trains is separate from north/ne trains by about 100 yards at Bang Sue.

Even if u think u r running late keep going coz the trains r often late out of BKK. travel time from hualamphong to Bang Sue is 45 minutes

If u do miss out Mor Chit is close by...........

  3. according to Prachan Sakorn,

The wedding was not a problem, but he wanted the elephant camp's owners to make sure there was no foreign dominance of the business or unfair treatment of tourists, especially overcharging for tours on elephant back

    Overcharging of tourists!!!! no way

  4. WHY? this was a kind of emergency/special case train station just BESIDE that behemoth of thai/BKK usTerminals, the Mochit (simply cross road), but its OUT of SERVICE since early this yr, as passengers were nil and the previous BMA-inspired reason to use it (avoiding trafic jams in BKk due to closed rail-road-crossings, this also led to some abortive plans to let all long-disnatce trains start at SamSen station) was blown over with yet another governor/govmt.

more info: go to forum on 2bangkok.com, then find SRT branch

I often took the train from Lopburi ,to Don Muang, that finished its trip at Phaholyothin. This was a daily train both directions that was handy for me. There were plenty of passengers especially students.I last took it in February.
