  1. is it poss to go to kl by ferry or second best ferry to the closestmain town and take a train ti kl

If you have a lot of time...........

Ferry Phuket to Krabi &/or Phi Phi Island.

From either these places ferry to Lanta Island.

Ferry Lanta to mainland, then by road to Satun. [get exit stamp from Thai]

Ferry to Langkawi Island, direct or via Kuala Perlis.[ entry stamp for Malaysia]

Ferry Langkawi to Georgetown [ Penang]

    Ferry G,town to Butterworth

Train B.worth to KL [ train leaves 9pm]

arrive Sentral KL station next morning

    take taxi to hospital :o

  2. I've seen a guy selling a violin at the night market [ twice only] He's on the corner where the buses turn into the station from the road. In front of the shop that has walking frames etc.

    What about thai instruments?.

  3. There are a couple of cheap hotels near the old airport for 350BT .Good standard, parking, cable tv, free internet. One is called Sports Inn but the sign out front says budget hotel

This guy said "cheap", i think 350 is over his budget-but we don't know cuz the cheap charlie

did not set his parameters. I have a tent for rent for 60bt a night, but you got to supply the

    bedding. :o

Do you have a monthly rate?.

  4. The border in the area is a small river not the Mekong. The Lao had a map drawn up by the French. Thai's had another map.

A lot of the activity was in Loei city, the closest big town. I was living there then. Everyday lots of army moving thru town.

Thai took a licking & "redeployed". Lao had/has a full time army. The guys in the Thai trucks going thru Loei looked like a bunch of school kids.

  5. Depending on what countries you want to visit, especially in south america , have a look at what airline flies there then see which airline grouping they are in. For example iberia & Lanchile are in one group.

Then go to an airline office in BKK that is also in the same grouping. Let them work out prices as travel agents get little from these tickets so don't want to do the work.

Lots of taxes on these tickets.

  6. I'm currently on a VOA and will be running out of my 90 days soon enough. I'm wondering if I, as a US citizen, can head to Australia to get a multiple-entry non Immigrant visa. It makes sense that I can get it from any country but I just want to be 100% certain before booking my flight.

(I understand that applying in the US, Europe, or Australia is my best chance of receiving the visa. However, going to Australia is cheaper and faster than going back to the US)

As I'm under 40, unmarried with no Thai children, do not work in Thailand, this visa class seems to be my only option for staying an Thailand for 3-4 consecutive months. I've got about 20 VOA stamps for Thailand in my passport from the last couple of years but now, out of necessity, wish to go the visa route.

    Any advice?

A American friend recently just a few weeks ago went for a non-immigrant O and was turned down in Perth? He only got 60 days.It used to be very easy to get a non-immigrant O there in the past but not anymore? Unless you have all the proper paper work?

I am wondering if i can go to a Thai consulate Down Under and apply for a multiple 1 year non immigrant B as i have a recommendation letter of a foreign employer ? The only thing is he can not provide me with any other document as he's not for 100% sure yet that i can really start working for him.... It depends on some things..... (So, i also haven't a WP yet....)

I guess with this situation i don't have to apply in one of the Asian cities like Penang, Manila, Ho Chi Min, KL, Singapore, etc.. ??

It would be much cheaper to fly to Penang or KL or Singapore....

Every information is more than welcome !

    Thanks in advance !

  7. Is there a direct bus to Singapore from Bangkok?
You can certainly get a bus to Haad Yai and then a bus from Haad Yai to Singapore.

Do you have any more info about this direct bus from Haad Yai to Singapore?

    Thanks.....

Everyone of the many travel agents in HadYai sell bus tickets, but mainly to Johore Bahru. Larkin bus station. From there regular buses to Singapore. The bus in Haad Yai will pick u up at hotel or anywhere. They mainly leave at 10am,11am & noon

Better is the Langkawi Express sleeper train. Leaves Haad Yai 14.50 gets to KL 06.45 [ but often late] Connecting train from KL to Singapore. As far as I know u can only buy a ticket for Langkawi Express in Haad Yai train station. The ticket counter closest to the tracks. The advance purchase office does not sell tickets for this train.

  8. Some trains have power outlets [ I've seen microwave ovens in use] but not at the seats.

They sell booze - vendors walk up & down or go to dining car. Food is ordinary. Eat b4 or get a take out

The ac varies. For me its too cold so I travel 2nd class fan. You will get a blanket.

There are showers in 2nd class fan. If there r only 2 carriages there will probably only b 1 carriage that has the shower - cold water. Often there is not enough water for a shower at the end of the trip.

The train goes to Nong Khai Thailand. From the Nong Khai station short trip to bridge. Cross into Laoland take bus/taxi to Vientianne [no train] about 12 miles. :o

  9. I just saw an internet ad for a guest hostel called Monkey Island. It says a private room is 100 Baht, but I have not seen prices like that for years in Thailand. I would bet that when you got there, the price of a room was 250 Baht.

There is a sign at Monkey Island saying 100bt a night but I was told its share bathroom. If u go about 50 metres past there a fairly new hotel has good rooms with prices u can negotiate

  10. hel_l I'd just settle for a boy taking me for a picnic at the park haha

(Actually, I love picnics in parks)

interesting to see all the blokes are choosing places where you can gorge yourself isnt it. i would also prefer the picnic in the park. nothing too flash. nice bottle of wine, some good food.

the most important thing is the company in my opinion.

who wants clowns on a date? (often, the bloke is a big enough clown)

Thai women are big eaters & like going to all u can eat places.

We stopped going to picnics in the park coz we would always get people coming up asking for money.

  11. Tachileik [ opposite Mae Sai] visa is $10US or 500 BAHT on arrival. This is for 14 days. U could go to Kengtung. U can stay in Tachileik also.

Huay Xai [ opposite Chiang Khong] visa starts at $30US but goes up to $42 for Canadians. Can get visa on arrival. This is for 30 days.

Borders open everyday [except when there is some dramarama near Mae Sai]

time in Burma is half an hour behind Thai.

officially 8am to 6pm thai time

  12. Any idea on COST of posting? By rail it will be about Baht 800, roughly the same as a person going by 2nd class sleeper.

Percy2 is correct in that Pattaya has a railway station with infrequent services to Bkk. Trains may not have a baggage wagon.

There is 1 train a day from Pattaya to BKK . It will connect with the night train. There has always been a baggage car, if not they can put the bike in the passageway
