I call the Uk for 2-3 hours a day 4 days a week. It costs me 540 baht and i get 120 days of free calls 300 minutes per week i have occasionally topped up before my free days are up as run out of credit which is used against mobile calls to uk and premium number calls 0870 0845 etc.

I Have 2 accounts if someone is doing the math.

And no i am not an agent for them just a very happy customer.

edit----no need for additional telephone either just the headset/mic that i use for msn chat

  2. Do we have to show air tickets with the application or can we go and get after getting visa ?

If refused and we have already got air tickets ?

Can we pay the visa fee in cash (baht) ?

All this is going to happen very quickly for us as we will be looking to fly to the uk within 3-4 days after visa approved.

*oops forgot to ask* with the exchange rate permanently fluctuating how do we know exactly just how much the visa is if 515 pounds?

  3. Hi!

Hmm...Meeckoke Plaza...sound interesting - many thanks for that piece of info :o

Any idea what time the sellers congregate i.e early morning, late morning, etc? :D as we wouldn't want to come when everybody's gone home again :D

    Cheers - and thanks

    ScooterBoy

Hi Scooterboy..They also there on Sunday. Both days most are there from around 8-9 am.Probably best times to go down is mid-late morning for largest choice or around 4 for best deals. I picked up a JRD Storm 125cc automatic 1 1/2 years ago for 16k baht (bartered down from 19k) starts first time everytime never had any problems.

Will be putting on sale early-mid next month for 12k baht as going back to Blighty for 6-12 months.

  4. When you say 'from a site you know' I doubt that it actually came from them.

You almost certainly now have a trojan or virus or other malware installed. Hopefully you have nothing private or important on that comp. Never ever open executable attachments and be very leary of ANY attachment.

Run antivirus, anti spambots, anti malware.. Run multiple different ones if its not discovered.

Your machine is probably now sending out those emails to other machines now.

Thanks LivinLOS dont keep any banking details but does have a little of my uk business details on.

Started running antivirus the moment it happened the e-mail vanished from my inbox as i opened it but i have opened many from this site "firstnationalthailand.com" an estate agent in Chiang Mai without ever having this problem before.

My anti virus only came up with 2 warnings but no virus.

  5. This was all happening at around 10:30 this morning, Narawat bridge was closed so went back over Nakorning bridge and were re-routed down the night bazaar.Being the nosey f**ker i am i stopped to see what was happening, and yes there was a bomb scare, bomb disposable squad there and anti bomb gadget thingy half way up on the right hand side 50 metres before the bank probing into a large bin that was on its side. Dont speak Thai so couldn't ask locals how long there but from the traffic backup i guess 30-60 mins.

  6. The difficulty with the longer term visit visas is that although they still allow the holder to visit for up to six months at a time, if the immigration officer at the airport in the UK were to perceive your wife to be spending "too long" in the UK in this capacity, he might refuse her entry. Long term visit visas are more for a number of short visits, rather than back-to-back 6-month visits.

In the circumstances you describe, your wife will be better advised to apply for a settlement visa.

    Scouse.

Think this maybe be a catch 22 situation.

The problem with this is that when we come to LOS for a visit it maybe for more than the 6 weeks that the settlement visa allows which would put us back to the long term visit visa and this doesn't allow us to be more than 6 months in the UK.

So i can get a 10 year multi entry visit visa for my wife but she is not guaranteed a re-entry to the UK after a stay of 6 months OR i can get a settlement visa and she's not pemitted to be out of the uk for more than 6 weeks without losing her settlement visa ?

And people complain about the visa rules and regulations here, this makes me laugh !

As another option if i were to make my wife a non profit sharing, non paid, sleeping partner in my UK business would this change her visa rights in the UK ?

  7. Going back to the uk with my wife of 18 months to sort out my business and a few family matters, which is going to take longer than 6 months to sort out.

Our intention is to to come back to Thailand after everything is done in around 12-18 months with maybe 1 or 2 visits to see family here in between.

Have just been looking on the British Embassy site and seen the "Longer term visit visa 1,2,5 or 10 year" Which seems to suit our needs, but not sure if i just fill in a VAF 1. If so due we submit the same paperwork we would applying for just a Visit Visa ?

Apart from the cost Longer Term Visit Visa 13,325 baht and the Settlement Visa 33,475 can we also apply for the L.T.V.V. as a multi entry so we can come and go easily without re-applying everytime.

    Seems too easy ?

Anyone previous experiance of this Longer Term Visit Visa ?

  8. No 1 is okay and if things go as this thread suggests then maybe it should renamed as "The Only 1" :o

Perhaps TV members should have a schedule Mondays drink at ?? Tuesday drink at ?? that way there will always be at least 2 other people to talk with. Doesn't get round the lady problem unless you bring your own and have a lucky dip to see who gets who.....oops getting carried away :D

Friday for me is always a mix of No 1 Half Moon Johns Places and occasional stroll around Boxing arena and Peak pool bar complex. Depends which set of friends i meet up with, sometimes i am led a little astray and find Spotlight

In fact think it might be time to shower n shave and make an early start.

  9. The Number 1 bar fits the bill, plenty of ladies to pass a little time with and if nothing there to please your eye there is always plenty of friends new or ones we haven't met yet to chat with and they have started doing bar meals aswell. Always a good time to be had.

  10. Sorry, I know this has come up before but I couldn't find a recent enough thread to rely on.

Planning to move house next month to Nong Hoi, just outside the Superhighway and have just been told that the phone line is provided by TOT which has had mixed reports in the past (although I'm not exactly thrilled with the Maxnet service in my apartment either!). I'm prepared to pay for the highest speed option they offer but a decent sevice is absolutely essential to my sanity so can anyone give me some current feedback about TOT's ADSL performance before I sign the contract for the house next week?

I have TOT's ADSL 14ish km out in San Sai and also was prepared to pay for highest speed available 2048 kbps (2000 baht ish) and did do till about 4 months ago, when we had to have an engineer out due to probs with the modem they provided. We found out (thanks to the TOT engineer) that the speed we were paying for wasn't available out this far ??? So Sept last year we downgraded to the max speed available to us 512 kbps (590 baht).

I am totally dependant on having an ADSL line for VOIP so that i don't have to contend with 15-20k baht a month phone bills. Yes there are intermitant 1-2 hour periods of downtime but overall i am quite happy with the service.

My advise would be to have an engineer go out to the property and do a check on what speed is available in the area first :o

  11. It used to always start from your current date of entry. But this year sometime they seemed to have changed to using one year from the current permitted to stay stamp from a number of reports.

Yes this is the case here in Chiang Mai. My last 1 year extension was due to expire 4th Jan 08 but due to visiting family in Korat i had to apply for my 2nd 1 year extension early 17th Dec. 08.

Went to collect my new 1 year non "o" extension Friday and i have been given till 4th Jan. 09 and not 17th Dec 08 as i expected :o

  12. Ok seems it may be poll time ( if i knew how to i would ) perhaps someone could set 1 up so this never ending burger debate can be put to rest once and for all.

Some suggestions for nominated eateries in no particular order

    Burger King

    McDonalds

    Dukes

    Mikes

    Woodies

    Queen Vic

    Mad Dog

    Half Moon

    Chiang Mai Saloon

And i am sure there are more that can be added to the list that dont come to mind right now

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SOMEONE LETS HAVE A POLL AND PUT TO SLEEP THIS SAGA
