  1. My wife and i are going to the UK to see family and sort out a little business late March to stay for approx 6-8 weeks.

My wife will be applying for 1st Uk tourist visa if she decides she likes the UK enough we may want to stop for 6-12 months dependant on how long it takes me to sort my business out.

If so can we apply for a settlement visa while in the UK?

  2. OK i know a little bit last minute but we have just had the Thai family turn up to help us celebrate our first year of marriage (tomorrow) and now need to find somewhere that serves both good Thai and farang food. (dont really want buffet) Dont mind paying up to 1k baht pp but not much more.

  3. If you are a married retiree, I assume you can still use the 40,000 per month income but as a non worker there would be no tax records.

Will the Embassy letter then be sufficient?

I am under 50 and married so the 40k was the only option for me but i pay tax (UK) on the money i have sent here from my business but have never been asked for any tax records and only needed the letter from the British Consul here.

No bank book, no bank letter ever requested.

  4. No, I am not working in Thailand and never said I did. I have an overseas business and deposits to my Thai accounts are from ATM withdrawals from overseas accounts. Maybe I need to set up a Thai company and send money to my local company, get work permit, and pay myself to have tax records here? Or could I just deposit money into wife's account or would she require tax records also?

I also own my own business in the Uk and had my proof of income letter from the British Consul here in C.M. with a letter i typed myself on my company letterheaded paper (inc. position and salary) and a 1 month western union transfer slip exceeding the 40k required all inside 3 hours.

  5. Once you start yearly extensions you do not need a new visa unless you let them expire or leave/return without a re-entry permit. So you do not need to obtain a new visa.

You will probably require a new confirmation of salary but if you still have the original you can try using it again. It might work.

Just reading the dates on my passport and i got my 90 day non "o" on 4th Jan 07 from Vientiane and applied for my extension 23rd Feb (was going to be away from C.M. so had to go early) went back and got my 1 year ? extension which expires 4th Jan 08.Should this not have been 1 year from 23rd feb when i got my extension ?

The last time i did my 90 day reporting was 9th Nov and stamped till 6th Feb but C.M. imm. told me i need renew my visa.

I still have the original salary confirmation letter so will try to use this rather than pay another 2,500 ish baht for another.

  6. Living in Chiang Mai and looking to escaping from Songkran next year 13-15 April, suprising the wife with a visit to Phuket for a romantic, relaxing 4-5 day beach break so would really appreciate any info on beach front, secluded hotels/resorts/bungalows

  7. Prince Albert - Phi Phi is 2-3 hours away from Phuket so you won't get a hotel near it on Phuket. If you're bringing your wife I'd avoid Patong and head for Kata or Karon

    Thanks Seonai

  11. A buddy and I tried the #1 Bar about two months back...after about an hour or so we were hit with a bill for 2400Baht. had several ladies drinks on it ranging from 300-500 baht. we both managed two bars in Angeles and don't buy ladies drinks...Never going back Sorry about the reply above.. not an it guy and couldn't figure out how the reply quote thingy works

Im really surprised to hear about that at the number 1 bar...i would have said thats one of the bars where it wont happen...never had any such problems there or been asked to buy lady drinks. Always thought is was more chilled out place than most loi kroh bars, never pushy

:D Me too. I regularly visit the no.1 bar and have never found the girls to be pushy for lady drinks and the occassional time i have bought one its only been 80-100 baht. Always somewhere to relax, play pool and have a beer or three with old and new faces. One of my favourite bars maybe only second to Tuskers to always enjoy a good time :o

Sooo suprised i posted this twice

  13. Given the interest in Indian food I am thinking of putting on an Indian Curry night to coincide with the Unofficial Piss Up on the 23rd.

I will do an Indian buffet. 3 curries, naan (if I can get it at a reasonable price - suggestions welcome), rice, samozas, onion bhajis etc. Should be about 150 per head for those wishing to indulge - good idea or not?

Excellent idea MB and hopefully can become a regular thing :o how about some saag aloo also ?

At 150 you can count me in everytime

  14. Hi,

I am hoping to find someone with knowledge or experience of travel to the UK for Thai people. I am hoping to arrange travel at some point for my cousins daughter and her mother to the UK for a short holiday and to meet her gradparents, who are too old to travel to Thailand.

The plan would be for me to travel over to Thailand early next year and bring my cousin's daughter and mother back with me on the same flight.

My cousin was killed in an accident in Thailand when the child was very young. My cousin has a living British father and Irish mother who has lived in the UK for 50 years or so.

My questions is therefore: What process do I need to go through to bring my cousin's daughter (about 11-12 years old) with her mother to the UK for a holiday.

    Would appreciate any help,

    Thanks.

    Ed.

Perhaps one of the mods could move this to the visas and migration forum where there are a number of people could better advise. :o

  15. Once she's had one or two six-month visit visas, she may consider applying for one of two-years' validity. Whilst the visa is valid she may then travel when she likes, although she can't stay longer than six months in the UK at any one time.

    Scouse.

Never had the intention of stopping anymore than 1-2 months at a time so terrific news.

    Thanks Scouse

  16. As you have registered your marriage in Thailand, you are considered to be lawfully married in the UK, too. Consequently, you should not be seeking to formally marry again in the UK, and you are under no obligation to lodge your Thai marriage certificate with the General Register Office through the embassy in Bangkok, although you may do so if you wish.

There's nothing stopping you celebrating your marriage in the U.K. by having a party and a visit visa for your wife is what is needed.

    Scouse.

Many thanks Scouse for your speedy reply

Our long term goal is to get both of us dual nationality so we can come and go freely without having the burden of having to apply for visas everytime we wish to travel. Although easy enough now for me to get a visa for Thailand who knows what the future might hold regards visas, but the process seems much more complicated for my wife to be able to travel with me without having to go through the visa rituals everytime.

Is there a less troublesome way of my wife being able to just get up and go with me if we decide to take an unplanned trip to the uk ?

  17. Hi Everyone

I am going to show my spectacular ignorance of all things mathematical here and would be very grateful if someone could help me solve what should be a simple problem. Ithought I'd put Cm's brightest brains onit.

    I have a rectangle 426 wide x 320 high

I want to make the width 233 what should the height be to keep it in proportion?

I am sure it has something to do with 1.33 but i have no idea what.

I would be very grateful to anyone who can give me an immediate answer. Free beer to the first correct response :o

    Thanks from a mathematical dunce

    233/426% = 54.694835 so 320/100x54.694835=175.02347

    proportion size should be 233 x 175

As always a little to slow
