  1. As someone has already pointed out you have "heard" a lot of things! Avoid all, and I mean all, of those firms who will make a visa for you. If it isn't a legal visa you will (not may) have problems eventually. Only embassies and consulates can issue visas.

What nationality are you? What age? Are you financially indepentdant?

Your last question is easy! Plenty of choice with health insurance.

  2. First thing you must do is go to your embassy and tell them the truth. Ask for a new passport, or papers that allow you to travel to Iran.

Go to the airport with a flight booked. When you get to immigration act dumb. They won't find you on the system, you won't have a TM card from arriving in the country. If you are lucky they may think someone at a border has made a mistake and failed to put you into the computer system. They won't want to admit a colleague has made a mistake. Be prepared to be fined.

    Don't do it again.

  3. Kasikorn do a card which you can use online. You first have to "load" it with some cash then use it online. It is very useful for online shopping as you only need to put the amount on it that you want to spend and no-one can use it fraudulently to run up a big debt.

As for a Thai bank giving some foreigners a credit card, I can understand their reluctance. The numbers of people who would leave without paying their debts..............

  4. Interesting subject as my passport is almost full, only one blank page left. Nowhere near expiry date. As I am going to the UK in a few months I can renew it there but I worry that they won't get it back to me before I return here so I will probably wait until I'm back then get another from Hong Kong.

It just seems a rip-off. Money making by the UK government.

  5. Santa goes every year to Koh Samui.

Big white beard riding an old honda wave with an 18-year old "helper". :)

does he come down the chimney?

It isn't the real Santa because he only comes once a year!..............

  6. When I went through immigration recently all the immigration counters had Thai & Foreign signs. When I came through with my long-time girlfriend a few months ago we separated into different queues. An Immigration officer came running over to me to tell me to join her even though it was signed Thai.

In the UK though it may be a different matter. I have seen them split people up before they join the queue.

  7. Have you phoned your bank? Some banks place a block on cards used in Thailand as this gets flagged up as possible fraud- a quick call gets the card activated again.

I had this happen a couple of years ago. It was one day before I flew to the UK so it wasn't a problem. Called the bank when I got there and they had noticed it was used whilst I was in Thailand. Confirmed that it was ok to use my cards again and made a note on their computers. Never had a problem since.

  8. There are plenty of internet cafes, enjoy your holiday ,by being flexible.

There will always be plenty of places where the internet is available ,in this low season

He is asking about a hotel room, not asking about using the internet.

I strongly suggest that the OP books somewhere for a couple of nights prior to arriving here. Otherwise where will you know where to go to? It is your first time, don't know the geography, and will probably finish up with a taxi driver taking you somewhere he will get a backhander for bringing a guest.

    Look at this hotel

  9. Please Please Please get on meals on wheels delivery! :)

    I'm hungry :D

Good news for you! We are scheduled to go on it when they do their next update. Below is a tentative list of what we will offer. Most of our baked goods are listed here with the exception of products that either can’t survive the heat, or if they do, you might not survive eating them. In the latter case I’m referring to baked goods that contain custards which have egg in them. Most of our cakes with icing are in the former category.

If there's anything else you might like, let us know. We are considering shipping the blintzes frozen.

When I copied my excel table into thaivisa all the formatting got lost. The numbers are the prices in Baht.

Why is it that you can do a blatant advert and my friend at Boutique Sexy shop in Pattaya got booted off?

  10. I rarely comment other than in the Thai Language forum for the very reason that every thread gets turned into something that it's not. You're Red are you - don't care. You're Yellow are you - don't care. You're mourning 88 dead people you never knew - don't care. Yes the whole thing is a great shame, but i don't wanna see it on this topic - don't care. Go and open up your own topic in the General topic section titled - i'm mourning the people slain by the military come and join me (please wear a black armband if you're participating in this thread). Yeah, something like that. Go on, off you pop.

Quite, mourning people who you do not know is more about seeking gratification. How many grieve for all those who die everyday in road accidents? The huge number of dead and injured during Songkran?

Apart from that, why do people hijack various topics for their own ends? This topic is about the BMA seeking people's views.

  11. I do not know any Thais I can trust with 51 % , nor any with 1 million baht to invest for a company.

Is there such a thing as a freelance work permit ?

    I want to offer lessons.

How do artists work it out with permits? Or computer repair, anyone else offering services in the local paper ?

So what is a " shelf " company? What is SME ?

I see an ad for a company already established 2 years ago

    " Clean and unused .."

When I inquired what the company is for, response was,

" Oh, you can use it for anything..."

Is this one of those " sounds too good to be true " deals.

I'll try one point at a time.

One million Bt. It is not the amount needed to invest in a one million Bt company. That is just the registered capital. To open a compnay will only cost around 20,000 Bt. Yes, 51% must be Thai persons. Not sure how many Thais now as they reduced the numbers a couple of years ago.

There is no such a thing as a freelance work permit.

    Lessons. What sort of lessons?

How do artists work it out with permits? Or computer repair, anyone else offering services in the local paper ? Perhaps not a question to ask.

Not a "shelf" company but a "shell" company. A company set up for the purpose of, perhaps, owning property but not actually trading.

The company you have been offered can be used for anything. All you are buying is a registered company name. What it does is up to the owner. When someone has a company for the purpose of owning a house (for instance) by a foreigner but sells the house to someone who does not want to take over the company, perhaps putting the house in a Thai person's ownership, the company is no longer needed. To close the company requires an accountant to audit the books, arrange for any taxes to be paid, dispose of any assets, and then close the company formally. Probably in excess of 20,000 Bt, this is not a cheap process. If someone is offering you a company offer to accept it free and offer 50% of the cost of transferring the ownership. About 5,000 Bt each. They will save a lot of cash. If they don't agree they will have the option of (1) keeping the company and paying tax and audits every year, or (2) closing it themselves.

Is it too good to be true? Not necessarily. If you are certain that you are going to open a company this may save you some money - but make sure you get an audit done prior to taking it over or you may find there is some unpaid taxes. If the taxes are not paid yearly they accrue interest and a fine. After three years of unpaid taxes/fines the tax office will issue an arrest warrant.

No doubt someone will correct something but hopefully I am preparing you.

    Good luck

  12. You should have gone to the Pattaya police dept, log in a complaint, and see one of the investigative captains. They would have accompanied you to the school, and investigated the matter.

    Barry

That was my first thought. I believe it is now illegal for teachers to punish students in this way.

I think you should also confront the LB and then remove your child from that school If you are paying the school then they lose the income due to their failure to protect those who they are in loco parentis.

You will never be happy with your child in this school now, and she will be unsettled. Mover her.

  13. the wireless router would normally be connected to the standard modem. if you want to take away the wireless then connect directly to the modem. it means you lose the ability to move around ith the OC

Does anyone actuaaly do this these days? Everyone I know has a modem/router with or without WiFi rather than two seperate items.

I doubt the OP has such a setup or he would have just disconnected the second item.

  14. Thailand has come the laughing stock of the western world. Charging him as a terrorist become he made speeches to the Red Shirts against the government is not terrorisms.

Making speeches is not the reason for charging him, it's the contents of those speeches.

Like Osama Bun Laden. Encouraging people to riot, burn and pillage is an act of terrorism. Encouraging actions which result in deaths, but not acting yourself, is terrorism.

However, let us hope they never get him back here. Keep him away, if he goes to trial let it be done in the ICC at The Hague.

  15. I am assuming that your router has ports so all you need to do is connect a LAN cable to access the internet. If you want to disable the wifi then you need to "enter" the router using whatever url is required. Some use 192.168.1.1, some use 10.0.0.1. When it asks for username and password it will be admin + admin unless whoever set it up changed the password. If the password has been changed, press the reset button which will rest it to the default setting. Once you reset it you must enter it using whatever the url is, enter the default password then set up the isp username, password, VCI and VCP settings.

However, to repeat someone else's comment - you are making a mountain out of a (very small) molehill. Are you going to avoid everwywhere that might have Wifi? Whole cities have wifi available. Walk along Beach Rd and free wifi is available. Go into every Starbucks etc.

Apart from that, let us know what Router you are using and I'll tell you the access URL.
