  1. All this quibbling over what to call these reminds me of the comment made by the French Ambassador to NZ following one of their Pacific atom bomb tests: "I do not like this word "bomb". It is not a bomb. It is a device that is exploding".

Nice one Monsier Ambassador. Ha ha ha

I don't like a bullet, let's call it a pointy bit of metal.

  2. Sorry, can't help you with Phuket, except to say be aware of the prices for new items that you might buy secondhand. I have seen secondhand items sold at higher prices than when sold new. Thai sellers see how much they cost new and think they can sell for the same price.

  3. About the last thing anyone wants to see on a Thai beach is a man in a thong.

Is it for a man or a woman?

Either way it may be a problem with the police as it may be too revealing. Yes, I know, this is Thailand.

  4. Go to Highway 36, then follow the road to Motorway 7 (but don't go that far). Look on the left hand side of the road for a large display of sala. Cheaper than anywhere else that I know of and they will deliver with a crane to get it into your garden.

  5. First of all are you talking about your current assets? If you are legally married then she will automatically het everything unless you leave a will distributing your assets otherwise.

Whether this will include assets in the UK or just Thailand I can't tell you.

If however you are talking about pensions then it will be better if you both go to the UK, with a translated copy of your marriage certificate, and get her a National Insurance Number. If you are already on a pension you will get the married persons amount (not sure but around 200 pounds per month extra) and she will be able to get her penaion following your death.

The timing of this varies though depending on your ages. They make her wait until she reaches a certain age. The British Embassy can tell you this.

  6. There is a clinic at the top of Soi 6/1 (Second Road end, opposite the Bangkok Bank) who display a sign saying they do Botox injections. I can't tell you how much it costs, never had it done. I have seen several others as well but can't recall exactly where they are.

    How much in Phuket?

  7. Have a look at the agreement/contract you signed (assuming you did sign one). That was a big deposit, it is usually a lot less. Anyway, the likelihood is that you will lose your deposit, after all, that is what a deposit is. You pay the deposit so the firm will reserve the house for you until you pay the final payment. If you haven't paid then you have broken your contract.

There is no point in writing here what you should have done.

    Good luck

  8. Thailand should get tough with these types. Ban the sale and use of motorcycles over 400cc. Discourage them from coming here. They have to go else where to show off how bad they are w/o the over powered, noisey, dangerouss ball busters they like to ride.

Theres no reason to have foriegn gangs operating in this country. There are enough laws ,I'm sure that they could get these people out of thailand.

As most of the idiot class of bike riders prefer H-Ds, surely that should be underpowered! :) And you forgot overweight. :D

A bit more off topic, oh what the hel_l, it's more interesting than talking about Harley Freaks. I assume you own or owned a Laverda? I have owned hundreds of bikes, but never a Laverda. Friend had one, a 3C, I rode it a few times

Sorry had work to do! Yes, an original Slater Bros conversion, 3CE#1492, for more than 20 years. By today's standards, a bit agricultural and top-heavy, but very stable up to around 240km/hr. Cam didn't start to work till around 160, top gear good from 40-240. Had a couple of Guzzis as well, just for variety. :D:D

I had a Laverda in the UK as well. A 3CL. A bit heavy but it really had some grunt. Nothing slowed it down. Fantastic bike, gorgous looks.

Here I just ride a Honda Wave. :D

  9. Pattaya, world renowned resort of culture :D

we shouldn't judge before we've been, but what do we do if we never want to go?

I went there once, about five years ago. I never went back! But people say it's nice there. :)

I came here once, eight years ago, and never went back......to the UK. (Except for holidays) I feel much more safe here than I do in my hometown of an evening. Knife crime, muggings etc.

  10. I would take a wild guess and say he is not to far from Pattaya

or maybe even *in* Pattaya. and as i mentioned in my post, i'd do the pick up.

    Here is your oringinal post

i have a dying buffalo whose last wish is to play Rock Band one more time. he's going to die this morning and i need to buy an xbox360.

so seriously.... do you have an XBOX you are no longer using? i will pay you a fair price and you will have foldin' money by noon! can anyone help me out? i do need it this morning and i will come get it from you now. i'd really prefer an NTSC version, but will take a PAL version with games.

and to the Admins, i apologize for posting this here but, i am trying to do a big favor for a little boy and before i try scouring the scum of Tukcom, i'd love to give some good money to a local bloke.

    thanks in advance!

It doesn't say you are in Pattaya. It does mention TukCom but doesn't mention which TukCom!

  11. It's to be hoped you are not going to teach English with your truncated sentences and no capital letters. Good teachers pay attention to every detail at all times.

    P&M

Well said! I was recently speaking to a Frenchman whose English was so bad that I couldn't understand him. Double negatives littered poor grammar and pronunciation. He is studying for a TEFL certificate.

I am not a teacher but I do believe in writing posts, emails and text messages correctly.

  12. I have a Non - O. One year I was offered a job, had a work permit, and told to keep my Non - O, don't change to a Non - B. Aster three months I stopped work, cancelled my work permit and continued on my Non - O.

If I had had a Non - B then I would have lost the visa when I finished work and cancelled the work permit and would have been given seven days to leave the country. (By coincidence a friend of min is leaving tomorrow as he has just stopped working. Back to UK to get a retriement visa.)

  13. I think it would be dishonest not to point out an obvious error like the one mentioned above. Taking something without properly paying for it is a form of stealing. I don't think it is anything worth bragging about. On the contrary, it's shameful.

How is it stealing? It is their policy not his. If they say that they will give it free if thry price it wrong then they have a duty to fulfil their promise.

  14. Put the excess on a bus and pick it up at the bus station in NST.

Or...tell your wife to pack more sparingly.

Do the latter at your own risk. :)

Sending it on the bus is the cheapest and easiest option.

Send the wife on the bus as well. Also cheaper.

  15. My friend took a couple of mosquito zappers, the ones like a tennis racquet. Despite the fact that nearly every house here has at least one my frien had a terrible exprience at the Airport. His offence was importing dangerous weapons. They were confiscated, loads of paperwork and interrogations before they decided not to charge him.

Stun guns are a bit different though. Take them back to England and not expect to get caught?

Another friend, who sleeps in his lorry when on long distance trips, ordered a pepper spray by post for when he is in the cab, especially with the lorry thefts that occur. When it arrived he got arrested.
