  1. I am just pleased that I wasn't below your balcony. It could have killed someone. Yes, I know it was only a mobile but from that height the effect on someone's head would be dramatic. Next time just drop it in the toiilet.

  2. Lots of businesses are suffering, tourism WILL be down.Estimates have cut growth bt 2% this year so far.My export business is running below 50% for the last 6 weeks and below 25% this last week. Now its closed untill further notice.Customers do not want to come and see us at the moment .So yes , this is definately hurting the economy in many sectors including exports.

Despite all of these reasons the Thai Baht is still strong. I can't understand it.

  3. Well, I have a choice when I go out. I can buy cheap beer, sit alone and get drunk. Or I can go out to have fun. Buy a few lady drinks, generally have a good times with friends and not worry about how much I am spending. If you biggest worry is whether spending a couple of thousand Bt in 11 hours is too much then I suggest you don't have much to worry about. Start at 4pm, finish at 3m, eleven hours for 2,000 Bt? Less than 200 Bt per hour.

  4. what does this have to do with thailand?

I for one am glad that someone had the sense to post it here. I am British and this would have affected me, and many other UK expats. I didn't know it had been shelved, and I doubt that many others knew.

So, what does it have to do with Thailand? Simple - it is of interest to expats here. Crossy, thanks for letting it run.

  5. In Pattaya TukCom there is a shop that does a lot of this. They replace batteries in both UPSs and laptop batteries. Be warned that if it fails he will only give 50% of the price back.

Personally I just prefer to buy anew UPS, it works, I get a 12 month warranty, and if they are used, and fully recharged/discharged regularly it is easy to get more than a couple of years out of them.

  6. If you, or anyone else, has flown Jet via Mumbai (Bombay) let us know your experiences. Two of my friends have flown Jet recently. Their descriptions of the staff at Mubai airport are abysmal. Staff going through their property and removing what they want. My friend lost a 200 GBP coat because they thought he had put some money in the pocket. They would not return it. They stole bottles of spirits that he bought in the UK Duty Free.

Has anyone got a good word for them?

  7. Having read through all these posts I do wonder why people in Thailand are reading this, and why people in Vietnam are reading. If someone is happy in Vietnam, that's ok, but why read ThaiVisa? Similarly, if someone is happy here, and not thinking about moving to Vietnam, or leaving Thailand, why read and write posts contradicing others?

No doubt someone will ask why I am reading...........I am not going anywhere except for holidays.

  8. The atmosphere is not so good and the food was only so-so when I visited

Not exactly a good recommendation is it?

At first I thought it was an advertisement for the restaurant until I read the not-so-complimentary comments.

  9. Words of wisdom there.

The visa is the easy part. You need to slow down and have a good think about this. Why the rush?

Have you ever been to Thailand? Why not take a holiday there first?

This is an important question. You have not mentioned whether you have been here before or not. If this is your first time you may be unable to cope with the heat, the rainy season (starting now), the food and the culture. Never mind language difficulties. You have fallen for a Thai girl in the UK who will then be on her own ground in Thailand. Her family here will come first. You will be frustrated with the fact that you won't understand what is happening, what is being said.

Finalising a divorce? Too many men get caught on the rebound when meeting some Thai angel. Then when the money runs out the dream is shattered. Don't burn your bridges back to the UK. Try a holiday here for a decent length of time.

Having said all that, and please don't think I am being negative, just realistic, good luck with whatever you decide.

  10. I would NEVER buy an unfinished building in Thailand.

I agree, putting a deposit down on a building that may never be started, or may be finished in several years time, is a great way to risk your cash.

If you want to buy now look around. There are plenty of properties for sale.

When I bought my house it cost the equivalent of four years' rent in my previous house. I considered that anything after four years is a bonus, even if I walked away and lost the house. Having been in this house for over six years now means that I have lived here rent free for two years, if I sell it I have got all my money back, plus extra.

  11. thanks Colabamumbai...

NHJ....You think i am here for an advertisement, Did i name the company here? Well colabamumbai is right, I should aviod negative people and you are one of them.

Quite right, you didn't mention the company. As for recommending people, if someone does good work for me I tell others. If their service is poor, I tell even more people.

  12. I recently bought a one terabyte Western Digital (WD Elements) for 3,200 Bt. Stores loads of movies and music, plus data that I don't want to risk losing in the event of a hard drive failure.

Not sure how much cheaper the 500 Mb version is, if there is one. I didn't go fo the 1.5 terabyte as it takes longer to load. (So I am told)
