Not sure if this is helpful, today I went with a local friend to Bangkok Chatuchak DLT and updated my DL to my new passport number, renewal was 6 years away didn't want that kind of wait to update it, they wanted copies Passports and Visa, didn't ask for rental agreement or COR,  they did motorbike license as well - 110 baht total.

    Cheers

Actually that might be an angle for me as I also have a new passport, maybe then they might overlook the no visa aspect as I’m still not sure if that’s going to be an issue ?

Firstly, book an appointment at the local transport office. Ours was shut for 7 months and we got one for 1 month hence as soon as they starting accepting appointments. Very quickly they were fully booked for 6 months. They confirmed the existing 2 year license was still valid even though it had long expired by then.

When your appointment is nearly due:

Get the certificates from your local doctor - one for each form of transport (one for car and one for motorbike for example)

Get the proof of residence from your local immigration office (I got just one certificate that covers both forms of transport). Take a copy and self-certify the copy.

Take a copy of your passport photo page and current visa page and self-certify them (one for each form of transport)

The video/test is valid for a certain amount of time which I don't remember. If you've done this without an appointment, you might need to redo it closer to the appointment time.

Attend the transport office for your appointment. Complete one form for each form of transport, each with a doctor's note, an immigration letter, and a copy of the passport.

Wait for the physical tests (brake reaction test, colored circles test)

Pay your fee, have your photo taken, collect your new 5 year license.

Thanks for your detailed info, much appreciated..BUT…I’ve been back now for only 1 week and I’m planning to get a new Non O retirement visa down the road, as my previous Non OA expired in January, but for now I’m only on a 30 day visa exempt entry..SO..even though I have both licences still valid until Jan29 2022 will they grant me 5 year extensions if I’m not currently on a visa?

Don't ever get a taxi direct from a hotel in BKK, or you're asking to get ripped, especially in the lower Sukhumvit area that includes Nana.

Just flag down a meter taxi on a main road, and the fare should be normal and reasonable.

If the taxi isn't willing to do a straight meter trip, pick another taxi.

How about Grab from the Hotel, any better fare wise? Or indeed are there better car ride mobs around nowadays?

or the easiest way is get the BTS to Mo Chit ( Chatuchak park )  and on the opposite side catch the A12 air-con bus to Don Meung Airport.

Yes I'm familiar with that method but this time I have close to 40kg of luggage with me, so I might just get a Grab from Mo Chit or from my Hotel in Nana, it's been 2 years but last time I was there the Taxi Mafia were quoting obscene fares

More positive input on work arounds with ThaiPass would be a breath of freshair to those trying to cope with a stressful situation. Has anyone had an easier time with this thing using Gmail/Firefox??

Yes, it seems the essentials are: All documents saved and sent as .jpg's, then submit using Mozilla Firefox web browser rather than Google Chrome, and only supply a Gmail email address for correspondence.

Given that your documents are all correct you will get a speedy acceptance, from my personal experience

I was planning a trip up to Chiang Mai to feast on the mountains I miss from back in the UK. Not so sure now, or once again is this over reacting. I read the other day that worldwide there have been 5 million Covid-19 fatalities in the last 20 months, so should I stop worrying about the 100 million deaths in the world annually?

Oh I see, so you're saying that 95 million less people died in the last 12 months, yet another FaceBook fact huh!

I think it's just the hotels slow in getting their packages out:

Slow indeed, as they are still hoping that ppl will take a 7 day package IMO.

But it is impossible at this stage to find any site that publishes any Phuket Hotels offering the "Test & Go" deal.  The bit that scares me is the transport to the Hotel and the ATK also being provided by the Hotel, I can just see the IO at the airport refusing my entry if that's not documented for me to show them.

I'm not even thinking of going to Thailand until this mystery is cleared up

    Thank you.

I am attracted to Honda, the Jazz looks a little sporty and is a car that either my wife or I can drive. The load capacity sounds good as I occasionally have family visit us.

I have a 2011 Jazz with low km's bought 2nd hand from Expat Autos in CM, great car with an excellent engine and really versatile loading with the Magic Seats. The Mazda and Toyota are also solid Jap cars but not as unbreakable as the Honda IMO.

Tip: Buy White and you'll sell it quickly when the time comes

I have found an Insurance policy ( NotTGIA)that is available to the age range 1-99 years at a reasonable cost that  meets the $1,00,000, however there is a condition that the first 14days is a 'wait time'

I am sure the individual Embassies/Immigraation officials would nt accept such a policy, but would it be acceptable if I commenced the policy 14 days  before the arrival date in Thailand.    My thinking is that as the first 14 days are not covered, it doesn't matter where I am and so long as it is effective on my arrival, it should be accepted.  Any thoughts?

read the fine print, it will most likely commence from when you leave your house to commence your trip

You could obtain a tourist visa or even enter visa exempt and obtain a non O (based on retirement) inside Thailand at immigration.

Would require bank account in Thailand and also deposit 800k but only for day of application of non O.

    You could obtain a STV.

Is it possible to apply for a Non O when you're Visa Exempt? also I thought the 800k had to be in the bank for 2 months prior to application?

So, it's "quarantine-free" and we are "exempt from quarantine" but we have to quarantine for one to two nights on arrival. Am I understanding that correctly?

Long enough for them to know if you are Covid free apparently, as it's been 3 days since your last test. Most test results should be known within 8 hours so not sure where you get 2 nights from? Also the Sandbox is 2 PCR tests and 7 nights accom' pre booked, so this is better IMO

There is no rule as of yet. The only requirements are for OA Visa/Extensions: 400/40K baht insurance + 100K USD Covid plan / 1 year or length of permission to stay upon entry

for O Visa : 100K USD Covid plan for 90 days / none reuired for subsequent extensions

Not in Australia re the OA, the 40/400k is now redundant, replaced by 3 million bht cover inclusive of Covid
