Road safety in Thailand is virtually non existent, to survive you need to be completely mindful of that.
People in power giving lip service to the public is however very much the norm here.
It's a complete disgrace and the Police are only the foot soldiers of those that are really to blame.
The RTP are controlled by the Military and we all know who is in charge of the Thai Military.

Was gonna comment how this part of Thai culture sucks but then realised Australia is kind of getting this way as well.
Freedom of speech in general seems to be taking a nose dive in some countries.

The last time it was Agoda and the hotel in Koh Chang ( Farang manager!). The news was internationally reported at the time. The name and location of the hotel was soon uncovered. Just waiting for the same to happen here so we all know where to avoid. Any more clues anyone?
If and when it is revealed I'll be certain to never grace its doorstep

Well, so much for the 'vaccine proof or ATK' or you don't get in!
I know, I know.... 'vaccination doesn't stop you getting it'.. then why implement this silly protocol if it doesn't stop what they're trying to stop!?
To keep out whacko anti vaxers, crazy’s not wanted I suspect

Best stop ALL international tourism until Covid under control as we are going to have to live with it indefinitely. Omicron is now present in Thailand and predicted to infect everyone. Thai Insurance companies should be compelled to refund ALL premiums plus interest.
???????? Next you'll be saying Thai Motorcyclists should wear helmets or the RTP are useless

Insurance covering asymptomatic hospitalization has been available for some time. You would hope that these policies would be paying out as promised ...
This site shows prices for symptomatic and non-symptomatic cover for different ages and timeframes, quite useful. All policies listed are Thai:
https://asq.in.th/thailand-entry-requirements
The reasons given for asymptomatic tourists being "denied coverage" isn't clear, but as you can see from the above, 2 of the 5 policies specifically do not include it, including the cheapest one.
thanks for this, my obvious question was...Which Insurance companies are not covering for asymptomatic? thankfully mine is, but I hope to never find out

Hardly any person under the age of 60 in normal condition has so far contracted a serious illness due to omicron. The risk has been small throughout the epidemic, and now so negligible that cannot understand this endless vaxxine scheisse, and people still living in deep fear after two years of..., in fact could ask after what.
Anti vax dribble ????

63 confirmed cases, probably all asymptomatic, but SOME may lead to the sniffles.
Omicron is the end of the pandemic, the sooner it becomes the dominant variant, the better.
Open up everything now. It's time to revert ALL measures to 2019 standards.
I hope your assessment is correct but still too early to be sure, Governments want to open but cant afford to get it wrong

Unless I am mistaken people were dying before covid and will continue to do so after covid and unless some well meaning idiot invents the cure to death this is inevitable for everyone.
"If 30 million people in Thailand get Omicron at 250,000 people per day"
Where did this bonkers number come from?
sniff sniff! I smell an anti vaxxer ????

he did say farang don't shower as much as Thais, which is true.
Wrong on both counts.
I’m not English but almost certainly would believe their press before I’d believe the Thai government controlled media, they are simply puppets and the BS Road fatality numbers and Covid numbers they report are solid proof of that
Do Thais shower 3 times a day? Most farang I know shower twice a day

If they want any farang tourists at all then the best thing would be to gag or sack Anutin, his recent comment about smelly, dirty farang is just solid proof that his Chinese blood only runs thick for his Chinese connections. IMO that bloke has a lot to do with the government making it increasingly hard for expats.

Apologies for hijacking the thread, but just a quickie (as the actress said to the bishop)
Ford Everest, April 2018 60000km on clock, is it the right time to change the tyres? The wife says yes (of course) but I'm not convinced, and really would rather not spend the coin right now...
Up to you… but definitely before the next monsoon

Yes best to replace all 4 if it’s 4x4 or all wheel drive, no if it’s 2 wheel drive

pretty much defines the range of policing in Thailand - they are not capable of much else
There are much more serious offences to deal with
So you actually believe this story? Guarantee it will only happen in the tourist areas and farang will cop a 500 bht fine starting immediately, Thai Police are run by the Military, say no more

I'm currently on a 30 day visa exempt extension here, Does anyone know if I'm able to travel to Cambodia to apply for a 60 or 90 day Thai visa or better still a 6 month ME visa?

With a visa exempt you will get a 2 year license.
To get a 5 year license you need a non-immigrant visa.
So for now I can actually extend for 2 years?

Not sure if this is helpful, today I went with a local friend to Bangkok Chatuchak DLT and updated my DL to my new passport number, renewal was 6 years away didn't want that kind of wait to update it, they wanted copies Passports and Visa, didn't ask for rental agreement or COR, they did motorbike license as well - 110 baht total.
Cheers
Actually that might be an angle for me as I also have a new passport, maybe then they might overlook the no visa aspect as I’m still not sure if that’s going to be an issue ?

Firstly, book an appointment at the local transport office. Ours was shut for 7 months and we got one for 1 month hence as soon as they starting accepting appointments. Very quickly they were fully booked for 6 months. They confirmed the existing 2 year license was still valid even though it had long expired by then.
When your appointment is nearly due:
Get the certificates from your local doctor - one for each form of transport (one for car and one for motorbike for example)
Get the proof of residence from your local immigration office (I got just one certificate that covers both forms of transport). Take a copy and self-certify the copy.
Take a copy of your passport photo page and current visa page and self-certify them (one for each form of transport)
The video/test is valid for a certain amount of time which I don't remember. If you've done this without an appointment, you might need to redo it closer to the appointment time.
Attend the transport office for your appointment. Complete one form for each form of transport, each with a doctor's note, an immigration letter, and a copy of the passport.
Wait for the physical tests (brake reaction test, colored circles test)
Pay your fee, have your photo taken, collect your new 5 year license.
Thanks for your detailed info, much appreciated..BUT…I’ve been back now for only 1 week and I’m planning to get a new Non O retirement visa down the road, as my previous Non OA expired in January, but for now I’m only on a 30 day visa exempt entry..SO..even though I have both licences still valid until Jan29 2022 will they grant me 5 year extensions if I’m not currently on a visa?
-
Ok so I watched the 1 hour video and passed the test, downloaded my certificate, what’s next? Do I need to get another medical etc or do I just show up at any Land Transport Office and show my current licences?
-
Can someone please advise what procedure they went through to do this? Also can I do it at any provincial Land Transport office?

Don't ever get a taxi direct from a hotel in BKK, or you're asking to get ripped, especially in the lower Sukhumvit area that includes Nana.
Just flag down a meter taxi on a main road, and the fare should be normal and reasonable.
If the taxi isn't willing to do a straight meter trip, pick another taxi.
How about Grab from the Hotel, any better fare wise? Or indeed are there better car ride mobs around nowadays?

Be aware that theres a strong possibility they will ask for a letter from your Embassy and most Embassies will not provide such, then immi' will tell you its ok if you are prepared to pay 5500 bht (my own personal experience recently at Hua Hin). The work around is to email your embassy and then print out their reply, even if it's negative, immi' wont like it but then you only pay the 1900 bht.
