As "WithMarco" said "thailand is definitely out of question, just too many hassles, taxes, and visa BS."

So, that would leave us with an off-shore only option in your name. This seems the better solution. However, I am wondering how this is possible. Because if there is no Thai business, then how can you receive a Thai Work Permit & Thai Business Visa that needs to be linked with a Thai business?

A UK limited is perfect for this.

    Not.

But you can try a retirement visa, a visa based on marriage etc.  You can also live in Thailand 6+ months a year on tourist visa and spend the remaining time in Vietnam or Bali.  Thailand is nice, because you do not pay tax on foreign income in certain conditions. So it is interesting to stay in Thailand 6 months + 1 day en become tax resident.

    Are you working here?

You need to be working to get PR obviously,  like most countries in the world.

He is married with a Thai wife. Usually if you are married for a couple of years you will get permanent residency or even a passport, also without a job. I think Thailand is the only country that requires you to have a job also.

  3. More important are the number of days you stay.

I know someone who comes to Thailand 2-3 times a month on a visa exempt. But he only stays 1 or 2 days each time.

I go to Thailand with a visa exempt, extend that for 1 month so I have a total of 2 months. After that I go back to NL for a month. Return with a visa exempt, extend it again for a month so I can stay for 2 months. And go back to NL for a month. I do this now for a year without problems. Till now no problems, but I am a bit afraid.

As a matter of interest I opened an account with Bangkok Bank recently, no letters from an Embassy required, no certificate of residence, no insurance, no guarantor, no first born, just my passport and an initial deposit, I was in an out in twenty minutes with my account, a debit card and internet access.

Where did you do this and how much was the initial deposit ?  It seems they have different rules in different branches.

Assuming you end up getting a one year extension of stay, you could go back and re-request Bualuang iBanking. This worked for me. Otherwise go shopping for another branch, and obviously sort out the internet banking thing first.

SCB also allowed me to open an account and enroll in internet banking.

I heard that SCB only opens an account when you have a work permit. So I never tried. Did you get it without or ?

  6. I opened an account at Bangkok bank some months ago. They required a legalized copy of my passport. My consulate gave that to me. Account opening took about 15 minutes. Later I found out that internet banking did not work. I went back, and they told me that I could get internet banking only with a 1 year visum. Something I don't have. I went there with a tourist visum. I do have a 1 year rental contract, but that was not enough. This happened in Bangkok bank on Sukhumvit between Nana and Asok.

I don't understand. They gave me a bank book and a Mastercard (debit). Why not give internet banking too ?  Some things in Thailand I don't understand. For me the account is useless without internet banking.

About half a year ago I opened an account with Krungsri bank (Tesco Lotus at On Nut BTS). Its a nice bank. They required a 1 year rental contract. They really focused on that. After 3 bank employees confirmed that it was really a ONE year contract they gave me the account. Bank book, internet banking and a debit Mastercard.

I heard from someone else that he opened a Bangkok bank account in CM with a tourist visum and they gave him internet banking, a debit mastercard and a bank book. It seems that rules are different in different cities.

So if you go to Bangkok bank and they agree to open an account for you also ask if it includes internet banking...

You can just go for single entry non o visa for dependent which has no financial requirements and is good for 90 days.  Sure you have to hit up an embassy every 3 months but sounds like you are doing the that already.  The non o single entry is so easy to get that you can go to a lot of other embassies like in Vietnam that maybe you wouldn’t have for your tourist visa

An this visa you can extend for 2 months if you have a son ?  Or only 1 month ?

It simply means that getting Non O might not have the burden to show 400/800 K in a Thai bank account for two months. The other requirements are quit easy. If you do a 90 day in/out you don't need to show funds in a Thai bank.

I am trying to understand my options, maybe you can help?

You can get a Non O visum when married or having a child. When I look at the consulate of my country (NL) I can only get a Non O visum for 90 days. After that I have to leave. Or extend the visum for 1 year in Thailand. With 400/800k in the bank.

From the above I understand that there are also longer Non O visas allowing you to stay for 90 days, leave the country, come back for 90 days, leave again  etc ? And that for a 1 year period ?  This would be easier for me, because I have to go home anyway every couple of months.
